Midnight Confessions (Neighborhood Play Part 3)
Banging went off on my door, a constant throwing motion. Screaming as I heard Diego barking rapidly and growling even louder. I pulled my head up and looked around, seeing that I was in the living room. I must've fallen asleep on the couch last night. Sitting along my lap are several of the costumes for the play. I had talked with Cadenza and we both split it up between the two of us. I stand up and look around, Diego's at his doggie door, Travis is trying to get through it again. I sigh and begin to head over to help him out until I see him suddenly yanked from the doggie door. Diego following them in his classic low, deep growl. He had this one. I turn back to the door and can see pink and blue hair right outside. I sigh and shake my head again. Not wanting to do, anything anymore. Since the Christmas Party, I've seen Marsh five times as much as possible. He's just, I don't know. He seemed cool, now it just seems a bit strange. But, Aphmau did tell me that Kawaii~Chan has a huge crush on Reese. So I guess as long as he's around, Marsh will be too. I get up and swing the door opened, seeing, exactly who I thought it would be, Marsh and Reese.
"Hey guys," I said a little groggy, "What do you need?"
"Kya," Reese started, "You do know we're all supposed to be down at the Community Center for the play."
"No, that's tomorrow," I said with a slightly confused look.
"I believe my brother is right M'La-" Marsh began before I crossed his normal expression with my deadly gaze one, "K-Kya." He corrected nervously. "Opening Night is tonight."
"That's impossible..." I said and walked over to the coffee table, rummaging through the papers for my phone. 12 missed messages. 4 missed calls. 2 voicemails. Then, at the very top, the reminder.
Neighborhood Play! Opening Night Tonight at 7!!
I dropped my phone and quickly flew out the back door, calling for Diego to come back inside. I shut the back door and quickly gave him his breakfast, running around the house in search for my galaxy hoodie and my jeans. Finding them on my stairs and quickly changing out of my shorts and tank top. I needed to figure out where that thermostat was.
I ran back downstairs and looked around, ready to scream.
"How am I suppose to bring the costumes there on my bike!?" I shouted in a panic.
"Weren't you getting a ride?" Reese asked.
"I overslept so now I don't have one! Aaron probably would've left early!" I shouted and covered each costume with another, laying them on the couch and pulling together each of the sheets that ad extra lines on them into a box.
"A little unorganized are we?" Reese joked.
"I fell asleep on my couch and am three hours late! What do you think!?" I said and began to stuff my phone, some snacks, and my bag into the box with the lines. Marsh came in and set his hands on my shoulders, trying to calm me down.
"We'll give you a ride, just calm down," I nodded rapidly as Marsh took the box and headed to his car. I then quickly took the costumes and bolted out my door as well.
"I'll be back Diego!" I shouted and off we went. Oh boy. So far, this was not a good day.
By the time I showed up I ditched the box with all my food in it, pulled the costumes into my arms, and while Reese's car was still moving I jumped out the door and into the Community Center. I ran down to the room Katelyn had assigned us with the costumes in the first place and flew through the door. Katelyn and Cadenza were already in there talking, and by the time I got in there, it was obvious I was running late, and already suffered from that.
"Good to see you could make it Kya!" Cadenza chimed.
"Yep, finally!" I said and set the costumes down on the table, "Now I've got the extra umm... the uh-" I stood there stumbling for the word until scripts finally slipped from my mouth and I went bolting again to go and get them. I was such a mess today.
My mess cleared up, and by 6:30 I was right on lights, testing them out a bit more and getting ready. Katelyn had warned me nothing to over the edge, which I couldn't do with this set as is. But, hey, it worked out. As I set up at the light booth and fixed some of the controls I listened and watched as one by one people fell into the room. Sitting in their seats one by one. I took my hat from under the table and put it on my head, pulling it just far enough down so it would cover my face. In the corner of my eye, I was able to catch Antonio and Charlie sitting a couple of rows down to the left. I did my best to ignore them, but Charlie, I knew he'd already seen me by his low attempt to wave at me without his brother noticing. I smiled and went back to the controls.
Now I know some people might question why I would talk to Charlie and not Antonio when I'm closer to Antonio than I am to Charlie. But honestly, the closer you are, the more of a falling out you could have. When I wanted to leave. Antonio didn't want me to. He tried everything to keep me with him and Charlie and their Mom. Charlie, he understood more about me. He helped me leave. I haven't spoken to Antonio since that day.
As the play progressed I found more and more of a reason to switch lighting controls. When people pretended to die on the stage a dimmer setting seemed to make everyone sink in, and once, Charlie even walked back and asked me if that was Aaron on the stage. When I told him it was he just nodded and smiled. Afterward, he rejoined Antonio at their seats. But once we came to the final call for the kiss, I realized Aaron wasn't on the stage. It was Garroth! Knowing for the facts that both Garroth and Laurance liked Aphmau and that Aaron did as well, I lowered the lights all over the stage, focused in on Garroth and Aphmau, then ran around to the back to find out what happened. It took a lot of time, but in the back I found Zane staring off at the male dressing room that was boarded shut. Kawaii~Chan stood there as well. They both looked puzzled.
"Why would someone have this blocked off?" Zane asked.
"Kawaii~Chan isn't sure," Kawaii~Chan said as I walked up, "Ah, does Kya~Sama know?"
"I've got an idea, just let me..." I stepped up to the door and gave it three knocks. Three more returning. "Yep, it's Aaron."
"How can you be so sure?" Zane questioned.
"Garroth is on stage for the kissing scene, not Aaron, and no one's seen him since you guys all walked off stage," I replied, but by the time I finished, Kawaii~Chan was long gone. Zane just cackled along in a menacing laugh. "Don't know what that was about, but help me out here with these boards."
"Alright, let me go see if I can find the tools anywhere," Zane said and headed in one direction.
"Aaron, it's Kya, Zane and I are gonna get you out," I told him.
"Hurry up!" He shouted, "I need to get out there for that kiss!"
"Aaron... Garroth's already out there, why not, just stick back with Aphmau, and kiss her when no one's watching?" I said and things went silent, they stayed that way until Zane returned and we got to cracking.
By the time we all made it out... things were... something else. We stood by Dante and Travis and watched Laurance throw this potion. I guess he wanted a kiss. Anyway, all I know is Laurance did get a kiss, just, not from Aphmau. His lips met with Garroth's and all of us died laughing, the audience went crazy though. They loved it! I even dropped to the floor laughing. It was great!
By the time I got home, it was dark, and Diego was... Diego. He jumped me and began licking my face as I walked in. I again started laughing, listening slowly to the calming silence as we both stopped and sat there. My phone set off the first noise. A text from Aaron. He did the kiss. He kissed Aphmau. I was proud of him...
"Let's go for a run Diego," I said and stood up, sending my phone to the couch, "Midnight Run? Just for old times sake?" He barked in agreement and we headed off. Not, before, someone showed up, who I wish, didn't make his final curtain appearance.
Standing in a blue tux, with his hair combed back, he stood by his car, leaving the only color that was different from the rest of him, was the red rose he held in his hand. I stayed where I was, forcing him to come near me, and then. He placed the rose in my hair.
"Ky-" He started.
"No," I quickly said. I pulled the rose out of my hair and gave it back to him.
"But I-" He tried again.
"I know you like me," I said and things went silent. I thought, for a moment, just a moment, that he would cry about after what I said. But he didn't. He took it, well. For trying to hide how much it really hurt from me. "I'm sorry Marsh, but I don't feel the same..." He titled his head down and looked ashamed. Which hurt me the most. I shook my head and grabbed his arm as he turned to leave. "But trust me as a girl to my word. I'm all for giving someone a chance. So, if I don't have a date on Valentine's day. Would you like to be my date?" He seemed less hurt that I would give him a chance, and he smiled even. Barely, but still there.
"Thank you Kya," He said and gave me back the rose, "And I hope to see you then." With that, he left. And the curtain to this trainwreck was finally coming to a close. I let out a deep breath and looked toward Diego.
"What? Nothing to say?" I said, and he just wagged his tail at a successful attempt to get me to smile. "C'mon boy. Midnight Run!" Then off we went. Until morning.
