Grease Girl (Her Jobs~Part 1)
NOTE THAT I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FIXING CARS AND AM PUTTING WHAT SOMEONE I KNOW HAD TOLD ME CLOSE TO A YEAR AGO! I WILL MORE THAN LIKELY BE EXTREMELY WRONG!
I kept Diego downstairs as I walked upstairs to that... room, I left behind the bookshelf. I pushed the bookshelf out of the way and stared at the padlocked door. I had hidden the key in the side wall just next to the door and dug around in the hole for it. Forcing back tears, regret, and anything else I would've come across I opened the door and looked around at all the boxes. Each one labeled with a name underneath large strips of blue tape. The tape read DO NOT OPEN. The name underneath... was a name that should never resurface, and I'm glad that it never did. In the far back corner was a pile of boxes that had hearts and stars drawn on it. The name read Carson. The boxes were slightly opened and one of them held old photos that I'd never forget. One, was of two silhouettes at the beach, standing under a palm tree in the sunset. Slight drops of tears fell down onto the glass and rolled over the old wooden frame.
"M-M-Miss you, Carson..." I said as someone put their hand on my shoulder causing me to jump back. I turn around and see someone tall with black shoes, black ripped up pants, a red hoodie, and a red bandana. His chest was showing and even through his hidden face, I could see a concerning smile. "A-A-Aaron?"
"Kya... I didn't know you moved to town... and... your ears... are you okay?" He asked as I stood up and held the picture of Carson and I close to my chest. I shook my head and reached my hand up. I could feel my ears again... sadly they were out and shining light into Aaron's blinded eyes.
"I'm fine, it's just... Carson..." I said and set the picture back in the box, "How'd you get in my house?"
"The dog let me in, didn't you hear me?" He asked. I just shook my head and began to pull my hoodie over my head. "What are you doing?"
"Trying to forget," I answer and fold the hoodie up into one of the boxes, "I'll just put on my green hoodie. It's in my room."
"Yeah, come on. I'll help you move the bookshelf back," He said, "I know you, aren't a fan of..." We both pause and stare around at the boxes with the blue tape. I shake my head and head out of the room, Aaron not that far behind me.
"We both have Father problems, Aaron," I say and stick the key back in its hole, "But hey, we're here for each other."
"Kya!" Someone calls from downstairs.
"Oh no, quick close the door, lock it, bookshelf," I say and try to help Aaron fix everything.
"Go put a shirt on," Aaron growls as I run into my room and throw on my green hoodie, making sure to calm down enough so that my white werewolf ears fold away. Sometimes its bad that I'm like them, but other times... It's nice to know that more of my family is like me. Even if it's just two of them.
"Aaron, what are you doing here?" I hear the voice say as I step out of my room to see Dante.
"He was helping me with some heavy boxes, he's... an old college friend. What are you doing here?" I ask.
"It's like, midnight. I saw someone walk into your house and wanted to make sure you were okay," He claims.
"Is that just you telling me politely that you were watching me out your window to see if you could catch a glimpse of what I bought you for Christmas?" I asked with crossed arms.
"How'd you know?!" He shrieked.
"Laurance told me he texted you," I say with a smirk, "And if it's after midnight, go away! Both of you!" Aaron shook his head and headed out, Dante staying right where he was. "I told you to leave."
"Well, I will, after a date," He explains.
"I will sick my dog on you," I say and he runs out of my house screaming that he takes it back. I tell him that's a good idea.
~*~*~TIME SKIP~*~*~
I just wanted to sleep!!! I had to of slept in until like, 1 in the afternoon. I just was so tired after what had been happening the past few days. Then, I got this phone call, it was about work or something. I don't know... All I know is I had a pickup truck coming to me in about an hour that had a busted engine. How it was getting here was the least of my worries, but, at least I get some money from it.
I dragged myself out of bed with a sigh and ran around the house getting ready. Throwing myself into my old blue jean overalls and a white tee shirt. I threw on old boots that I bought before I came here and walked around the house, digging in some boxes that were still full as I searched for my hairbrush. Finally, I find it and tie my hair up into a messy bun.
"There we go," I say and start digging around yet again in all the boxes, "Diego! Can you help me find my toolbox?" I call out. Only to be answered by a nudge to my leg as he leads me to the garage and I see the toolbox sitting next to my Harley. "Oh yeah, thanks, boy!" I pet him and jump down the steps into the garage and switch the heater on. In my off time, I could work on my bike until they got here. I had a lot to do on it anyways.
About 20 minutes into me sitting in the garage there's a knock on my front door, I open my garage door and held this guy direct in his car. He's tall with brown hair and bright... green, eyes... I shake my head and welcome him to my "workshop" as he explains the strange noises coming from his car's engine. I popped open the hood and saw clearly what the problem was.
"Yeah, shot transmission, that and this is a heavily outdated motor," I tell him, "Honestly though, the motor can work as long as you update the MD Profile Mask you should be fine with the engine, the transmission... give me about, 30 minutes?"
"Thanks, Dudette, how much is this gonna cost me?" He asks.
"Hmmm, well... looking as to that I'd be the one replacing the Mask, I'd say... 400," I say, "But I've got some extra Masks inside so, we'll call it a clear 350?"
"Thanks!" He exclaims, "Here, I'll pay ya up front!" He takes out his wallet and hands me 350 dollars and then looks to Diego standing in the doorway between my house and my garage. The box with the MD Profile Mask in front of him.
"Oh, thanks, Diego! Good boy!" I say and grab it from him, "30 minutes, leave your number and name on that whiteboard, head around town, I'll call you when it's done."
"Alright, thanks again!" He says, writes his name and number down, then heads out. The board said Nate and the series of numbers underneath his name. I took a breath and dove into the engine, to begin with, his transmission, then the Mask was added, just about 20 minutes later I was almost done. Everything was running smoothly, and then Garroth walks into the garage, which I forgot I left opened.
"Hey Kya, what are you doing?" He asks coming around to me. I pull myself from the engine and look at him with an oil and greased up face. I took my rag out of my pocket and whipped off my face.
"I got a call in to fix this guys' car, so far it's done," I answer, "Just need to test the sound and then I'm gonna call him and tell him it's done."
"I didn't know you were into cars," Garroth says, "Then again I don't know much about you."
"Well," I begin while digging my hand back into the car one last time, "I've fixed cars since I was 14. I draw, mostly fashion stuff, been doing that since middle school. And the last thing is I use a bunch of sound equipment to create music. And, I've been doing that since... college."
"Wow, you're like multiple different people in one!" He states. Suddenly my nerves take over me and I'm shaking in my mind. As each small minded wolf voice takes over. I shake my head and just jump into the cab of the truck. Turn on the ignition and listen to the calming roar.
"Ahh, that's it," I sigh and lean back in the driver's seat. I soon shut the car off and look to dial the number on the whiteboard. "Nate, hey it's Ky, yeah, I fixed it."
"Alright, on my way back," Nate said and hung up, "Garroth, hey, I was wondering if you could tell me anything that Zane might like? I heard about this Christmas party and have no idea what to get him."
"Why do you think I would know something?" He asks.
"Laurance told me you two are brothers," I answer.
"Hmmm, get him something like, a pony! He loves those stupid things," Garroth says. I nod but, want to shake my head. I know what show he's talking about. I secretly like it to, but I can't tell people that. It's too girly!
"Alright, thanks Garroth, now go home! I've got some work to do!" I say and shove him out of my garage. After about 5 minutes Nate came to get his truck and even gave me an extra 50 bucks so... I mean. Yeah even without the extra it was worth it! Easy job, easy fix. I threw off my tee shirt and overalls and collapsed right there on the couch. I was done for the day, which sadly wasn't true. Just moving here, I had preposted my insights for everything I could do. Minus the music. So, I had a girl, wanting a dress fitting, for her wedding, in about, 30 minutes. I stayed on the couch for about 10, then lugged myself upstairs to take a shower and wash all the grease out of my hair before I began.
Should've known better, jobs never end this early.
