Should Listen

Snow fell all around the Mystic Forest, creatures burrowed in for the winter season, hiding within the dead logs and underbrush that formed their little homes. Even the Pens seemed to hide away. No one ever really knows where.

It's been six months since I entered this forest. Six long months that have broken me down and torn me apart in many ways. My heart longs to be with my master. Who I fear has probably forgotten me, along with little Jae and Jimin. Crystal tears fell down my white fur as I curled up to the bark of Lilith. My tree mother, that's what I call her.

"Don't cry, little one. You will find a way." She consoled me.

She too has tried to help me sway Yoongi into allowing me to teach him. But he is a stubborn grumpy fox. Who has a soft spot. I know he has, because he saved me from a Pen in the first week I had arrived.

He vanished for a whole month after that. I couldn't find him anywhere and that scared me. I thought for sure he had died all alone somewhere deep in the shadows.

I found him though. He was sitting by the stream of dreams watching the same dream I had when I fell in. The one with kids playing happily in a field of tall grass. He looked over at me with sad eyes when I sat next to him.

"This dream is always here..." he had whispered. I smiled at him. It was true, anytime I had come to the stream, that dream would appear. Although, I was always curious about other dreams so that one quickly drifted away.

Somehow, I think the Sunshine god was trying to reach out to him through his dreams. Which seemed so sweet.

Yoongi looked back to the stream, his ears lowering against his head. He was drowning in sadness once more.

"If only I could feel happiness again." He sighed. My heart fell to pieces. I couldn't stand it. How could Taehyung be so cruel to him? He didn't do anything wrong. It was all the people around him. They were the ones who deserved the punishments!

I growled unintentionally at my thoughts.

"What's your deal, Daft one?" He raised his ears with a blank expression.

"People..." I mumbled, I no longer felt like talking to him. My mood had gone sour. So I left after not being able to find him for a whole month. Not even caring if I were to find him again.

He would always peak my curiosity when I would see him and then the longer I was near him. I'd always want to leave soon after.

It was cruel, this punishment. No one could truly get close to him. This was the punishment set upon him. He couldn't feel happiness and no one could come close enough... rather last long enough in his presence to give him a chance.

So now I lay here, curled up against Lilith trying to stay warm. Thinking of ways to get close to him.

"Lilith?"

"Yes, little one?"

"Tree Walker Chakri... is she still alive?"

"She does not speak to me... and she hasn't moved in years."

I pondered her response for a moment.

"Why was she able to get close to him?"

Lilith grew silent, her branches groaning while she turned her body towards the ever smoking black tree.

"She loved him when no one else could. Even when the sadness had consumed her and the leaves began to wither. When the voice in her head said leave... she stayed rooted."

"How do you know this?"

"We spoke to each other once long ago, when she first arrived with the little nine tailed fox... once she knew he was safe. She went silent... Chakri never spoke again."

Looking at the smoking tree, that once was a tree walker. It's round trunk shaped much like a bloated belly, with its limbs hanging low around it. In the center of the belly was a hollowed out hole, where a black nine tailed fox would be resting.

He wasn't there right now. My guess is, he is down by the stream again watching the same dream. Beginning to think the Sun god tricked the stream into a never ending replay of his dream. If it was even his.

Can't be trusted... can't be trusted...

The whispers started in a frenzy. My ears perked up, as they continued their little chant.

Can't be trusted! Can't be trusted!

Lilith sighed, a frown spreading across her bark.

"He is back."

"Who?" I asked, looking up at her.

"Jungkook."

"Ah-Ah-Ah! You naughty tree guardian!" The boy from the first day I arrived in this forest whined. His bunny teeth on full display as he cart-wheeled up to Lilith.

How was he whining and smiling? Strange boy.

Can't be trusted!

The whispers screamed a bit louder. Jungkook's face changed to a scowl, he jerked his head to the right then shoved his hand into a small hole in a rock.

When he pulled out his hand, he was holding a glowing pink light in between his thumb and forefinger. .

"You need to learn how to keep your tiny whispers to yourself." He hissed at the tiny light.

I could hear it's tiny cry.

"Let it go!" I growled, jumping up onto all fours. He tilted his head, smirking.

"Careful, little one." Lilith warned. I ignored her warning, jumping out of her branches into the snow below. Whipping my tail back as a warning to the boy, I readied myself to leap at him, claws extended.

"Oh, do you want to play?" His smirk turned into a mischievous one.

"I said let it go."

"Do you even know what 'it' is?"

I squinted at the tiny thing between his fingers. All I could see were two tiny fists beating at his thumb furiously. Then a teeny tiny face with purple eyes that were narrowed. I've never seen one... I don't think I've ever heard of a creature such  as this one.

"No..."

He brought the tiny pink thing up to eye level, with pouty lips he teased.

"She doesn't even know you... "

"I don't know you either. So why don't you back off."

He looked at me with a devilish grin.

"Or what?"

"Little one, come get warm. Leave the boy."

Again I ignored Liliths warning.

"I will tear you to pieces." I tried to give a terrifying stare. Jungkook found it to be funny. He literally fell on the ground, rolling in the snow laughing. All the while holding the little pink light creature.

After he was done rolling, he jumped up and walked towards me. Leaning over to where his nose almost touched mine.

"Let's play a game."

"I don't want to play a game. I want you to let that creature go!" My tone was threatening. But he wasn't flinching.

"I'll tell you what this is." He shook the little creature in front of my face. The poor thing looked like it wanted to puke.

"Oh! And I will let it go... if you win of course." Jungkook smirked.

"What if I lose?"

He smiled widely, a mischievous glint in his eye.

"You tell me why you have to teach the fox."

You know that nagging feeling that tells you to just walk away. Yea, I got that. At the same time though, I had a really strong urge to save the little creature. Surely the game wasn't too hard. I could win.

"Okay, I'll play."

Behind me, Lilith sucked in a deep breath of air. Rattling her branches showing her displeasure, she disappeared among the trees. My Tree Mother was not happy with me.

I can win this. She'll see.

When I looked back, I wasn't so sure anymore. The look he was giving me with his now bright purple eyes... it was unnerving. I wrapped my tails around my body to shield myself from his stare. Just wanting, now more than ever to take a long nap like Yoongi.
