Fate and Love
Who am I? My eyes adjusted to the rays creeping through the window. I didn't recognize anything around me. Sitting up the white sheet fell in ripples around my waist as I took in my surroundings. It was a quaint little space. A small table with a vase of lavender and what looked like wheat grass sticking out. The sun danced across the soft wooden floor from the small window with pale blue curtains. It was so peaceful here. But who am I?
I stared down at my pale hands turning them over and over. Why did I feel so strange? White hair tickled my face as the cool breeze swept it across my cheek.
"Good morning, Jinx."
I looked up from my hands to see a handsome face that seemed so familiar and yet not. I sighed, his soft brown hair falling just short of his eyes, the dimples that showed when he smiled at my obvious confusion.
"Who-" he put his hand up to stop me from talking.
"You know me, give your mind time to catch up. You've been asleep for a month."
A month? I rubbed my eyes hoping that would bring some memories to light. All it did was frustrate me.
"Who are you?" I got out this time. The man grimaced as if it hurt him that I didn't know who he was. I felt bad for that. He looked familiar and it tickled my brain like I wanted to remember. It just didn't come to me.
"Namjoon, god of destruction. A friend, your master if you will."
"Master?"
Namjoon nodded then continued almost reluctantly.
"Yes, you are my little helper. You warn people of the destruction that will come. Giving them time to escape if they heed your warnings. You are a glitch."
"Glitch"
A black nine tailed fox flashed in my mind. His little gummy smile warmed my heart. After that all my memories came flooding back. All the hurt, all the long nights of torment trying to figure out how to befriend Yoongi. It all came back.
"Namjoon!"
He smiled softly, opening his arms to me. I jumped off the bed a little unstable, falling into his open arms.
"Did I do it?" I asked my face buried into his robes.
"You did little fox."
"Did I make you proud?"
He nodded as I looked up at him.
"Where's Yoongi?"
"He is in the city with Hoseok the Sunshine god. Hoseok is showing him the ways to be human."
My heart sank a little. Would I ever see Yoongi again?
"Can I see him?"
Namjoon shook his head sadly.
"It's best that you stay away for now."
"But why?" I pouted, sitting down on the edge of the bed.
"We all have a fate that we must follow."
"What does that even mean?" I didn't want to seem disrespectful. I just didn't understand why I couldn't see Yoongi after being around him for three years. I had grown use to his warmth in the cold nights. His moodiness in the mornings and his laughter when he would race me to the stream of dreams.
"We can't interfere with fate."
Why did that feel like just an excuse?
"Am I being punished for something else, Joonie?" Tears welled up in my eyes. An ache forming in my chest. The sadness overwhelmed me at the thought. Did I not pay for the ripple in the fate of an empire?
Namjoon sighed heavily, raking his hands through his hair.
"If you show up around Yoongi, he will only want to be with you. He won't want to fulfill his destiny. His heart longs to be with yours."
I sat in quiet turmoil. All the thoughts racing through my mind. I went against the fates once. Embracing the fact that once again someone I love was ripped from me. Was I not meant to have love? Or could I change my fate and not make an adverse effect on the future?
Why were the fates so cruel?
"Why do you make it sound like a bad thing?" It was an innocent question. Namjoon's expression once again looked pained.
"Sometimes the love we want is not right for us."
I knitted my brows. How could love be wrong? Was he talking about Jin?
"Can I just see him?"
Namjoon sighed, I could see him fighting internally. Trying to figure out if it was okay.
"I just want to see him. I'll make sure he doesn't see me."
"I'll go with you." He gave in, lightly patting me on the shoulder before he walked out the room.
Where am I?
I stood up, walking over to the small window, the cool wood against my bare feet. I realized then that I wasn't a fox. How long have I been in this form?
All that didn't matter when I realized where I was at. Grief struck hard in my chest. This was Jimin's chateau that he had built for his family. If I was here did that mean they had left? A small glimmer of hope ran through me at the thought that maybe him and little Jae were in the other room. So I rushed into the tiny living area. Only to find Namjoon sitting in a chair by the window in deep thought.
"Oh..."
He looked over at me, wrapping his robes a little tighter around his chest.
"You okay?"
"Why are we here?" I asked, sitting on the small rug in the center of the room. Namjoon watched me carefully before he spoke again.
"You were always happy here. I thought that maybe waking up here instead of deep in the forest would be better."
"Little Jae's mom and baby brother died here because of me." I sobbed, within seconds he had lifted me into his arms and left the little chateau. I tried to protest, but he didn't hear me.
He wandered for a few minutes until we stood in the middle of the meadow.
"I'm sorry..." Namjoon whispered, setting me down on the warm grass that tickled my feet. I let out a little giggle, making him smile.
Oh how I missed Joonie.
"When can we go see him?"
Namjoon looked up at the sun shining down all around us. The light grew brighter until there was a beautiful man standing right in front of us.
"Hello, Jinx." Hoseok smiled down at me. All I could do was smile back. His warmth radiated through me, a sense of calm and happiness filled my senses.
"Hoseok!" Namjoon greeted the man happily, embracing him tightly. They were like long lost friends. I would have never known they'd seen each other just yesterday had it not been for Hoseok's next comment.
"Joon, you act as if you didn't see me yesterday." Hoseok smiles adoringly at the now blushing man. Namjoon was adorable with his shyness.
"Yea... but it's always good to see you." He spoke looking down at his sandals. I smiled at the interaction between them. Hoseok gazed at me, his eyes filled with questions.
"How are you doing little one?"
"I feel good."
That was an honest answer. I no longer had the pain from the shadow tail, nor the overwhelming sadness. I just missed my friend Yoongi.
"Good." He beamed. Namjoon shifted from one foot to the other.
"I want to see Yoongi." I blurted out.
Hoseok's smile faded. The sky shifted to gray his sunshine demeanor fading.
"No." His voice was cold. Much like Taehyung's when he delivered a punishment.
"Why?"
Hoseok turned to Namjoon.
"Did you not explain the consequences? What would happen if he even got a glimpse of her now?"
Namjoon sighed, "I don't see the harm in letting her see how well he is doing from afar."
Hoseok blanched at Namjoon nonchalant ness. Can I call it that?
"I just want to see him."
Everyone stood quiet for what seemed like forever. Then finally the gray sky turned back to blue and the sun shone brightly.
"Let me take her then." Hoseok smiled. Namjoon scratched his head in confusion.
"I can at least stop her if she tries to go to him or speak."
This seemed odd to me. Why wouldn't Namjoon be able to do that? Hoseok looked down at me.
"We must stick to the shadows. He must not see you."
I nodded.
———-
In order to build an empire, many things must fall into place. Some sacrifices must be made by those who desire to make it great. The gods put a lot of faith in a tiny white nine tailed fox and as it stands she didn't fail them.
She was able to rid the boy of his sadness. Yoongi had found great happiness in their friendship. However short it had been, he would never forget her. Sometimes his heart would ache at the loss of the friendship they shared.
It was no one's fault. No one had to die. It's just Jinx' fate had been sealed long ago and as much as he wanted her by his side to create a great empire. She was destined to stay with the god of Destruction.
In the end he thought he understood. In truth he hated the gods for showing him how to love and then taking it away. Because to ruin fates timeline led to punishments.
He knew of the punishments endured by others all too well.
His brother, he learned about from Jinx. He suffers a punishment for loving the god of destruction and not dying like he was intended to bring his greedy mother riches. Which was also why Yoongi was turned into a fox. He was saved by the sun god. Whom Yoongi came to realize loved him very much.
He could feel it on days where he found himself standing on the balcony. The sun's rays seemed to hug him as he stared out into the city below. It was nice, comforting somehow and yet he longed for someone else.
Yoongi wondered if this is how Hwasa felt about Taehyung. She wanted to be with him but she was stuck in the Mystic Forest to be forgotten. While he was forever attached to the god of mischief, Jungkook.
Jinx had come into contact with that trickster a few times. Always thwarting his plans to try and ruin the progress she was making. She was always so very happy and strong.
Where was she now? Hoseok wouldn't tell him anything. It was always, did you finish reading the scrolls? How are the people responding to your rule?
How do you feel?
To be honest... he was overwhelmed and the only person who made him feel calm was nowhere to be found.
Yoongi took a deep breath in, the sky faded to purples and orange hues. Another day has passed. Looking out into the streets, he could see merchants slowly closing up shops. Some people smiled and waved up at him when they saw him looking down at them. He would return the gesture. Hoseok said it was kind to reciprocate. In truth he got that from Jinx. But he let Hoseok believe he learned that from him.
There in the crowd was Hoseok drifting through the sea of people. He seemed frustrated, but somehow he still had a smile on his face. Following closely behind him was a girl with silvery white hair, her skin was pale and she wore a white dress. She was an ethereal beauty almost ghostlike. He knew that face. That soft face with the eyes that smiled happily when she saw him.
Yoongi's heart skipped a beat when she looked up and their eyes met. A smile played across her small eloquent face. In return his gummy smile was on full display for only her.
Hoseok's head snapped back towards her, yanking her off into the shadows. Panic ran through Yoongi like ice water. Why would he do that? His panic turned to anger.
"JINX!" Yoongi screamed. A thick cloud of brown dust swirled around him. The god of Destruction appeared.
"I am not going to lose Jinx again. You must fulfill your destiny, Min Yoongi."
Yoongi narrowed his eyes at the god. Anger boiling through his blood.
"Why!? What harm would it do for her to be here with me?"
Namjoon stepped closer, his nose almost touching Yoongi's.
"Her fate is sealed."
"Well I will find the Fates and make them change it!" Yoongi growled, his hands gripping the cool marble of the balcony.
A maid rushed outside.
"Your highness, are you alright?" Her voice was hushed. Yoongi took a deep breath before turning towards her.
"I'm fine. Just talking with an old friend."
She bowed and returned back inside. Casting a wayward glance at the man beside the King.
Namjoon pointed towards the girl as she scurried away.
"She would make a lovely companion for you." He started.
"For all the stars in the sky, Namjoon. Jinx is the only one I want."
"We don't always get what we want."
Yoongi rolled his shoulders back, licked his lips and said.
"Maybe not you, but I will."
He walked away from the god of Destruction. Ready to go through hell just to be with the one he loved most.
