2. The Night of the Comet
My heart was racing and I could barely breathe. For the first time in decades, I had a vision that truly scared me. Sweat was dripping down my face as I replayed the terrible nightmare. I saw Vicki Donovan being killed. If my premonition came true, which it would, Matt would be devastated. I had to protect Vicki and keep her away from the supernatural.
I couldn't sleep at all after the deadly vision I had, so I decided to work out and maybe feed for a while. As I was jogging, I found Damon laying in the middle of the road. "Red!" He called me.
I glared at him and rolled my eyes. "What do you want?" I asked coldly.
Damon smirked and grabbed me by my waist. "A little slice of you." He kissed me passionately and I pinned him against a tree.
"Honestly, I can't deal with you right now." I bit his lip slightly and walked away, feeling like the baddest bitch of them all.
As I kept going, I saw Jeremy Gilbert sneaking out of his house. There was only one place he could be going... The hospital to visit Vicki Donovan. Perhaps, I should stop by and visit her after school. I mean, she is not exactly a stranger. Plus, I need to know what she knows because if she knows what I think she does, the Council will kill us all.

An hour later, I was checking myself in the mirror inside my locker before going to class. When I closed my locker, I overheard Caroline Forbes and Bonnie Bennett talking about the Bennett witch lineage. So that's where I've heard the Bennett name before... They're witches!
"Hey girls!" I smiled at them and Caroline immediately linked her arm to mine.
The blonde smiled and Bonnie rolled her eyes. "Sooo..." She started. "Tell us about that steamy kiss with Matt." Caroline winked at me and I could feel my cheeks burning.
I shook my head and glanced at the girls. "There's nothing to tell. I only kissed him to get Elena's attention." Matt waved at me from a distance and walked outside with Elena. "He's like a love sick puppy always following Elena." I rolled my eyes.
Bonnie noticed that I was upset and quickly changed the subject. "Grams told me that I'm part of a long line of witches."
"It's not surprising!" I stated. "The Salem Witch Trials are laughable now but back then people truly believed in witchcraft." I flipped my red hair. "Honestly, I've met people with unexplainable powers."
Caroline wiggled her eyebrows and smirked. "So are you like Sabrina, the Teenage Witch?"
The three of us laughed and walked inside Mr. Tanner's class. I hated the guy with all my soul and if I could, I would personally kill him but I just scolded Damon for attracting attention to vampires. For now, Tanner lives.
Tanner was kinda less of a jerk today, since he spent the entire time babbling about the comet that will be visible in Mystic Falls. I always become powerless whenever an event like this arrives. Funny thing, the magic I have is not actually mine so maybe this is Nature's way of punishing me for killing my brother. Either way, everyone is excited about the comet and the girls even invited me to participate with them. It was somewhat a good day.
After class, I walked outside and saw Stefan sitting all alone on a table watching Matt and Elena talking. I stood in front of him and snapped my fingers in front of his face. "I know what you are!"
He looked at me with a weird look on his face. "What are you talking about, Amelia?"
I sat across from him and sighed. "You're a vampire, Stefan." His jaw almost dropped while he stared into my brown eyes. "It takes one to know one. Look, I know who's behind the 'animal' attacks."
"So do I." Stefan stated. "It's my brother Damon. He returned to Mystic Falls to punish me and he's out of control." He confessed.
I furrowed my eyebrows and gasped. "Damon is your brother?" I whisper yelled. "That's not important, though." I shook my head and got my composure back. "I had a vision about Vicki and I think she's in danger. If Damon gets to her..."
"He's going to kill her!" Stefan finished my sentence and I nodded in agreement. "Vicki already told Matt that she was attacked by a vampire."
"Then we have to make sure she doesn't remember what happened to her." I suggested and Stefan agreed.

Stefan and I made our way to the hospital at the same time as Matt. I listened as Vicki started getting hysterical and crying out for Matt. He went to seek help and I decided it was the perfect time to get to Vicki. "It's time." I said to Stefan as he nodded.
We walked inside the hospital room and saw Vicki sobbing and looking absolutely terrified. "Matty!" She screamed.
I held Vicki's hands and calmed her down. "Vicki, tell me who did this to you." I compelled her.
"A vampire bit me." She answered truthfully.
Stefan looked into her eyes. "You were attacked by an animal and you don't remember much about what happened." He compelled the poor girl.
"What attacked you?"
Vicki took a deep breath before answering. "An animal but I don't remember much."
I smiled at Stefan and we walked outside the room. "Do you think she will be fine?" The Salvatore boy asked me.
I shrugged. "I hope so. At least she's not talking about vampires." Then I stopped as I heard someone walking in our direction. "You gotta leave." I told Stefan and he left quickly. "Matt!" I smiled at the tall blonde boy.
He glanced over my shoulder. "Were you with Stefan?"
"No. I came here to see Vicki but apparently she's not awake." Matt and I looked at Vicki who was finally sleeping.
Matt started walking away and I followed him. We reached a blood donation room with an open window and he stared outside, hoping to see Stefan. Was Matt suspicious about vampires?
A while later, I was flipping through a magazine when Vicki woke up. Yes, I stayed with Matt and we chatted and got to know each other. No, I'm not in love with a jock.
"Vicki!" Matt held his sister's hand and smiled at her. "How are you feeling?"
The girl smiled brightly and hugged her brother. "I feel so much better!"
I glanced between the Donovan siblings and couldn't help but smile at their sweet exchange. "So Vick... What happened at the party?" Matt knitted his brows together and I could sense the suspicion.
Vicki shrugged. "I was walking through the woods and some random animal jumped me." She looked at me with a confused expression. "Who's the redhead?" She whispered to her brother.
Matt looked at me and then smiled. "This is my friend Amelia. She stopped by to visit you and we ended up talking while you were sleeping."
The brunette smiled at me and suddenly, Jeremy Gilbert walked in. "Hey!"
"Jeremy!" Vicki gasped but I could tell she was happy to see him.
The blonde guy grabbed my arm and smiled at them. "We'll let you two talk."
We exited the room and walked to the vending machine. "Jeremy likes Vicki." I giggled.
Matt smiled and raised an eyebrow. "Why do you think I left them alone? He's a good kid."
"I thought she was dating your best friend." I crossed my arms while Matt picked up a soda.
He opened the can and took a quick sip. "He is but I don't think he likes my sister that much. She deserves someone who will do anything for her."
I quickly grabbed his soda and smirked. He chuckled and made me spill the soda all over my shirt. Damn! Was I falling for Matt Donovan?

It was the so expected night of the comet and I walked to the square to meet with the girls. Bonnie and Elena handed me a few flyers so I could pass them around. "Have you talked to Stefan?" Bonnie asked while smiling at people.
Elena rolled her eyes and I smirked. Finally, something interesting was happening! "He hasn't talked or texted after he kicked me out of his house."
"Wait!" I stopped in front of the girls and raised an eyebrow at them. "Stefan Salvatore kicked you out of his house?"
Elena nodded. "Yeah." She sighed. "I stopped by his house unannounced and met his brother Damon. Stefan freaked out when he saw us together and basically dragged me away from his house. Weird, right?"
My jaw dropped at the information I was getting. "Damon and Stefan are brothers?"
Bonnie looked at me. "You know Damon?"
"Yeah. I hooked up with him the night before school started." I smirked at the steamy night we spent together.
"What's up with him and high school girls?" Bonnie questioned rhetorically. "Whatever though, it doesn't matter." She looked at her best friend. "I think you're giving up too soon. So what he has issues with his brother? Just give him a real chance."
I nodded before handing out more flyers. "Stefan is a good guy and I think you should hear him out. No judgements."
A while later, Matt caught up with us just in time to light Elena's candle. She smiled and then lit Stefan's candle. Honestly, I liked Matt but seeing him following Elena around made me want to rip his head off. Either way, I found Tyler and lit his candle to keep me from facing Matt. "Are you enjoying Mystic Falls?" The jock asked me.
I glanced at him in a sassy way. "Does it look like I'm interested?" I flipped my red hair and walked away from him. High school boys are so annoying and full of themselves! Immature little jerks!

When I made my towards the Mystic Grill, I saw Matt outside with a worried look on his face. "Hey! What's wrong?"
His blue eyes locked with my brown ones and he sighed. "Vicki went missing and I'm trying to find her."
"I can help you." I smiled softly and then Stefan joined us. "Have you seen Vicki?" I asked.
Stefan shook his head. "No. Maybe she went home."
"No, she was excited about being able to return to her normal life." Matt explained with a worried tone in his voice. "She was still a bit confused about the attack. I shouldn't have left her alone."
My left hand landed on his right shoulder and I patted him with a soft smile on my face. "Don't beat yourself up! We'll find Vicki." Matt nodded and then I heard something.
Stefan furrowed his eyebrows and I nodded. "We should split up." He suggested.
"Yeah... To cover more ground so we can find Vicki faster." Before Matt could say something, Stefan and I made our way to the roof where we saw Damon Salvatore grabbing a terrified Vicki. "Damon..." I whispered in anger.
Damon smirked while holding a tight grip on the poor girl. "Brother, I see you brought backup." He said before turning to me. "Hello again, Red!"
I rolled my eyes before glaring at him. "Leave her alone! You're angry at Stefan, not Vicki."
"True but she makes one hell of a pawn in my twisted little game." He chuckled before staring at Vicki. He was going to compel her. "Go back to the night of the attack." Vicki nodded. "Stefan was there and he attacked you out of the blue. He's a vampire and you're terrified of him." Vicki screamed at the sight of Stefan and hide behind Damon.
Stefan looked at his brother in disgust. "Is this why you've been killing all those people? To expose me?"
I glanced between the two very attractive brothers trying to figure a way to stop Damon from hurting Matt's sister. "Not at all, Stefan. I kill for fun, which is exactly what you used to do." The blue eyed vampire looked at me. "Stefan was a ripper back in the day, before he started feeding on animals. I just want to remind him of his true self." He shrugged.
"People change, Damon." I stated. "Maybe Stefan just wants to move on from his past mistakes and be a better person."
Damon rolled his eyes and looks at Vicki. "You are going back to the bar and forget everything that happened. You don't know me, you were never on this roof and you think Stefan is just a regular guy." Vicki nodded and walked away.
Stefan glared at his brother. "Why are you really here in Mystic Falls?" He questioned.
The older Salvatore grinned. "That is for me to know and for you to dot dot dot."
Stefan and I followed Vicki and watched as Matt reunited with his sister. He looked at us and smiled. "Thank you for finding Vicki. Where was she?"
"She was wandering around." I lied before leaving. As I was walking around this town, I got a bad feeling. Damon was up to something and I had to figure out what it was before he hurt anyone else.
All my life I lived in danger, with danger and helping danger. This was the perfect time to redeem myself and become a better person. I was no longer Amelia Holt, the faithful wife of a monster- Now, I was Amelia Holt, an independent girl who just wanted to live a quiet life.
