Seán made his way through the front hall of the precinct behind Hank and Connor. Everyone remained silent until they reached the desks they had been stationed at. Seán barely recognized a new nameplate for Connor on his own desk.
The sergeant barely managed to land on the chair when he sat down. It gently bumped into the divider between his desk and the walkway, startling Seán back into reality for the briefest moment.
"Hank, what happened when we reached the warehouse?" Seán asked softly.
Hank's eyes snapped over, "Who fronted?"
"I thought I did. Chase was with me, and Hank was just starting to go back because we weren't looking at dead bodies anymore," Seán explained. Again, his voice barely reached Hank.
"We started searching the warehouse, and a couple of the Traci's attacked us. I don't remember much, but that's probably just the adrenaline. The androids got away though," Hank typed into his computer as he talked.
Seán nodded, "I remember them getting away. I didn't have control."
"Is that why you told me not to shoot them?" Connor spoke up.
Seán's eyes snapped around, searching the precinct for anyone else. A couple of other cops sat across the room, talking about something and drinking cups of coffee. Legally they needed at least 10 people in the precinct at all times due to the size of Detroit, so Seán wasn't surprised.
"It wasn't me, but yeah," Seán grumbled, rubbing his eyes. He began typing up his own report, putting down everything that he could remember.
"Seán, when you get a minute we need you in here," Chase spoke up.
"What's going on? And can someone front while I'm in there?" Seán made no indication that he was speaking to Chase outside of pausing briefly in his typing.
Seán heard Chase sigh, "We don't know what's going on, but Marvin and Jack said they could co-con while you're in here."
Seán thought for a moment, "Let me finish typing up this report, and then they can hop on. Speaking of, anything to add?"
Chase remained silent for another moment, "No, you got everything that you needed for the investigation. I'm going to go get Marvin."
Seán spoke up again, "Marvin and Jack are going to front for a few minutes. There's something going on. Don't let them be stupid." He grabbed his headphones from the computer monitor, scrolling to find Marvin's playlist.
Hank nodded, "You've got it, kid. They get all the donuts they want."
Seán could barely speak through the fog and music that just rolled through his brain, "Hank..."
Hank nodded, laughing. The sound came back muffled, and as Seán slowly moved towards the headspace he could see Connor and Hank talking through the case. Seán rested the body's head in its hands, making sure he didn't give himself a concussion again. A brief eye rub here, an almost-yawn there. Seán honestly felt like he was going to fall asleep.
A moment later, Seán blinked rapidly. The bright lights of the viewing room made him squeeze his eyes shut.
"Chase, we gotta make these lights dimmer," Seán mumbled, rubbing his eyes.
"Sorry. Come on, we can talk to Henrik and Anti about it later. You need to see this though," Chase grabbed Seán's hand and pulled him out of the viewing room.
"Chase, just tell me what's going on-!" Seán protested as the father pulled him down the stairs. Seán couldn't even get the rest of his sentence out before he saw the entirety of his headmates- with the exception of Henrik- gathered around the couch. Robbie stood off to the side, leaning against the wall and not even blinking as he looked.
Seán approached slowly, peering over Jameson's shoulder to see what was going on. On the couch laid a woman, covered with a blanket. Judging by how tightly Jameson gripped Sam's shoulder, the woman was probably naked.
"A girl...?" Seán whispered, looking over her. "Maybe she's got the memories from the last couple of days?"
"Maybe," Chase mumbled.
Seán looked up, "Anti is she what you've been chasing?"
Anti's head snapped to the side and he grit his teeth, "No. That thing had white skin."
Seán gave a sideways glance to the girl, and Anti scoffed, "Like actual white, not Caucasian. Jesus, Seán, get your head out of your ass."
"Anti!" Chase shouted.
"What?! You and Seán curse all the time, Sam's heard it before!" Anti pointed at Chase, black smoke swirling around his palm.
"Not around him!" Chase whispered, gripping the back of the couch.
Seán felt a tap on his shoulder. He looked over at Jameson, only to see him pointing at the girl. Seán looked down to see her shifting around.
"Guys, shut up," Seán hissed.
The group watched as the girl shifted, and then sat up. Unfortunately, though, she didn't grab the blanket. Jameson covered Sam's eyes as Seán gently reached forward and helped her grab the blanket.
She glanced around and Seán watched the blood drain from her face.
"Guys, back up, jeez. I'm Seán, what's your name?" Seán asked, coming around to the front of the couch and kneeling in front of her. Chase ushered Jameson and Anti off to the side, taking Sam and Robbie with them and talking gently with Sam.
"Uh... Aoife, I think," The woman said softly, rubbing her head.
"Eef!" Sam shouted from the couch.
Aoife smiled, "Yeah, Eef."
Seán raised an eyebrow, "That's an Irish name."
Aoife raised an eyebrow in return, "Aren't you Irish?"
The host cursed softly. Seán knew that his accent was heavy, but he frankly forgot just how heavy it was.
"Technically, yes. C'mon, let's get you some clothes," Seán stood, covering Aoife from the others as she stood and shifted the blanket again. Seán led her to his room and grabbed a couple of items from his dresser for her. She dressed quickly, holding the waistline of the pants in her hand to keep them from sagging for just a moment. Seán grabbed the tie from his robe and handed it to her. In a few minutes, Aoife had been fully dressed. Sure, the t-shirt drooped the slightest bit, but it would work.
"What do you remember?" Seán asked, opening the door for Aoife.
"Not much. I remember seeing fighting these two girls, and I almost shot them I think, and then I blinked and woke up here," She explained.
Seán glanced at her forehead, trying to see if she had an LED. None in sight. Seán glanced at Chase, eyebrows raised.
"Want me to give the spiel?" Chase asked.
Seán nodded, turning to Aoife and patting her shoulder. "This is Chase, he's going to explain what's going on, alright? Chase, I'm gonna go front. Don't let Marvin and Jack freak her out." Seán walked across the room to Sam as Chase approached the new alter.
"Hey, bud. You alright?" Seán asked, kneeling in front of Sam.
Sam nodded, "Yeah! Da said that he was gonna make me pancakes tonight."
"Ooh, that's awesome bud. I might get some now too. I'll see you in a little bit alright?" Seán asked, patting Sam's leg.
Sam nodded, and Seán approached the spiral staircase.
What the hell was going on?
