This time when Eve walked into the hotel everything was different. They know her now and know that she's their boss's girlfriend. They are quick to get her registered and off to the penthouse.
She walks into the penthouse and calls for Maria.
"What is it, love?" Maria worries over her as if she was her daughter. "You've been crying." Maria hisses. "Does your man know?"
Eve nods as Maria escorts her to the bedroom. "Rest. I'll bring a cool cloth for your eyes. Is he coming?" Maria still hasn't made up her mind about Dave. He'd hurt Eve so badly before, but she's seen how hard he's worked to fix his mistake. But like Eve, she can't be sure that he's trustworthy once more.
"Is he on his way?" Maria demands coming back into the room and placing the cloth on Eve's eyes.
Eve shies at the first touch of the cold damp cloth but soon relaxes. "Yes, he said that he would be here as soon as he can. But I know he has some important meetings, it could be several days before he makes it here."
"If he loves you, Eve, he'll be on his way already. Now, unless you want to tell me what has you so upset, you need to rest." Maria desperately wants to know, but she's not going to press things. That's not what Eve needs.
"Thank you, Maria. Will you stay by my side until he comes?" Eve asks in the most childlike voice Maria had ever heard Eve use before. It makes her heart break. Something has this girl running scared. Eve is perhaps the strongest woman Maria has ever met and she doesn't like seeing her so vulnerable and scared. If Dave did this to her she's going to kill him, even if it means her death.
Several hours later Maria is brought out of her doze next to Eve, by noise in the sitting area. She carefully gets up to not wake the sleeping girl.
"Good, you're here. She was worried you wouldn't be here for several days." Maria says when she sees Dave taking off his jacket.
"Where is she?" Dave ignores her words. He knows Maria cares for Eve as if she were her own.
"She's sleeping. She's scared and been crying." Maria tells him crossing her arms across her chest. "This isn't your doing is it?" Maria demands.
"I haven't done anything but try my hardest to gain her forgiveness and regain her trust. I have no idea what has her running so scared. George told me she was fine this morning but then she started crying and became scared. That's all he knows." Dave says bewildered. He runs his hands through his hair frustrated that he can't help her by killing someone or terrifying the person that scared her.
"Go to her, she needs you. It will be best if you are there when she wakes. I'll order dinner for you both." Maria shoos him into the bedroom. By now she knows what they both will like and not like.
Dave doesn't hesitate. He goes into the bedroom and kicks off his shoes and climbs into the bed with her. He pulls her to him and just holds her.
As she feels his arms around her she relaxes like not even sleep had been able to do for her. "Dave?" Eve murmurs.
"Shh, yes I'm here. But sleep if you need it." Dave says softly.
"You're here already? What time is it?" Eve says and just lets Dave hold her. She loves how safe he makes her feel.
"My plane landed five your time. I'm not sure what time it is now. Maria is ordering dinner. Do you feel up to getting up now? If not you can go back to sleep." Dave says happy to see that she's not scared now.
He's less happy that she wants out of his arms and sits up. "Before anything else, I need to talk to you."
"It's okay, Eve." Dave tries to reassure her.
"NO! I mean, it will be, but you need to know. I've been feeling sick the last few days and having trouble keeping food down. George took me to a doctor." Eve stops and the tears start she has a hard time even breathing.
Dave is more than a little alarmed. Sick, doctor, frightened. Shit, this isn't something he can take care of for her. He pulls her into his arms. "What did the doctor say?" Dave prepares himself to hear the worst case news, that she was dying.
"He, he said that I-I'm pregnant, Dave. I'm having your baby," Eve gets it all out in a rush.
The shock of her words make it so he can't speak, "You're having my baby?" Dave can't help the smile that comes on his face.
"Yes," Eve says too scared to hear the happiness in Dave's voice.
"He's sure?" Dave is still trying to make sense of it all. They'd only been together that one time. But he hadn't used protection. He silently curses his stupidity but can't help being thrilled at the out come.
Dave lets her go and goes in front of her and kneels down on the floor and takes her hands.
"He drew blood and had me pee. He said that both tests came back positive for me being pregnant." Eve stops speaking and just let's him hold her hands, finally regaining her voice, "You aren't angry with me? You aren't going to leave me?"
Dave lets go of her hands and pulls her to him in a hug. "NO! I won't force you to have this baby, but I'd very much like to welcome him or her into our family if that is what you'd like. I know this must terrify you. I know how scared you were when you called.
"I'll be there at your side for the whole thing if you'll let me."
Dave takes out the small box from his pocket. "I was going to wait until this weekend, but since you called me here sooner I'll do this now." Dave takes the ring from out of the box.
He take her hands in his one hand once more. "I know I fucked up big time before. I took your love and trust for granted and damn near lost you for forever. I'm still not sure that I haven't. I know you have little reason for trusting me now and less of believing me when I say that I love you. Hearing you say that you are having my child makes me want to shout to the world in joy! The only thing that would be better is knowing that I will have you by my side when I go to bed at night and wake up with you in my arms in the morning.
"I love you, Eve Saunders, more than anything in this life. I want you to be the only mother of my children starting with this one, if you want it and adding to our family as it comes.
"I never want to be away from you ever again, marry me, Eve?" Dave slides the ring onto her finger and waits for her answer with baited breath.
"Yo-you want to marry me?" Eve stutters, this wasn't anywhere near what she imagined his reaction to be.
"Of course, I've always wanted to marry you. I just allowed myself to be stupid for that one night."
"I won't tolerate you ever doing that again. I'll kill you if you ever cheat on me again. You and the skank you cheat on me with." Eve warns him.
"I know," Dave says gently as he raises his hand to her face and holds it there. "I'd rather you killed me than leave me in hell again. But there won't be another time, I can't go through this hell again. I won't risk losing you again. Please say you'll marry me?" Dave isn't above begging at this time. He doesn't give a damn about anything else at this time. He needs Eve to be with him.
"Yes," Eve says and that's all she has time to say before Dave pulls her into a kiss. He hungrily takes her mouth.
He was about to take things further when Maria knocks on the door and letting him know that their dinner was there.
"I want you to come back home with me Eve. I'm sure Sergio won't have a problem with you working from there. We can fly you out for meetings when you need to come. Sergio can watch over your territory for you as well."
"What about my apartment and George?"
"I'll take care of everything," Dave promises. He's already in the process of buying the building. He'll let George stay there rent free so that he won't have to stress so much on making enough to live on. He owes the man for watching out for Eve while he couldn't.
He also has plans for helping Mark out. There are scholarship funds for his kids for whatever college they decide to go to and if they choose to not go then the money will be theirs to help them start out on their own in life.
"Maria?"
"Well, I was hoping that she would come with us and be your personal assistant."
"You mean that Dave?" Eve asks happily.
"I'd ask her to just come and live with us, but she's too proud for that. I know how much she means to you. You also mean the world to her, besides it's good for you to have a female you can talk to. There are some things us guys either don't know, understand or are embarrassed as hell to talk about."
Eve throws her arms around Dave and hugs him tight. "I love you!"
After that the two go out and find not just Maria and their food but Leo, and Sergio as well.
"What's wrong with Eve?" Leo asks in confusion since Eve doesn't look scared now.
"Well, you are the first to find out. Eve is pregnant and has agreed to marry me." There is stunned silence then they start congratulating the couple.
"Sergio, she'll be going back with me, could you watch her territory for her? Also, she'd like to continue working for you that won't be a problem will it?"
"Working from home here or a few thousand miles away doesn't make much difference to me. I'll still need her to come to some meetings, but most can probably be done by video conference. I might need her to come out for emergencies occasionally." Sergio says happy for the couple. "As for taking care of her territory, I'll do it on the condition that I get to be godfather to your child."
Dave looks over to Eve, he doesn't dare make that decision for her. Eve shrugs, "If he wants that responsibility I don't have a problem with it." Sergio looks rather smug at her words.
"I was going to ask Maria to be one as well," now Eve looks at Dave and bites her lip. She can't see the reaction Maria has. Maria is pleased and has to wipe tears of joy from her eyes at the honor.
"I think she'd make an excellent choice." Dave's words make Eve smile even brighter.
"Eve," now it's Dave's turn to bite his lip. "There's something I should tell you. Zander has been working on the wedding. There isn't much time until your birthday and although I knew you still hadn't accepted me, I still wanted to have a wedding you could be happy with for your birthday. I thought we could make it both a wedding and birthday celebration. He says that there are still things you need to decide, but it's mostly ready."
Eve doesn't know how she feels about this but decides to be amused. "You're throwing me a surprise wedding/birthday party?"
Dave lets out a relieved breath, chuckling, "Not really but close to it. If there is anything you don't like we can change it. Zander hasn't let me know any of the details so I can't tell you anything either."
Now Eve lets out a laugh and can't find a way to stop it. This morning she was terrified that Dave would leave her and now he's scared that she won't like the wedding Zander has planned out.
"I love you, Dave Tuelleries." Eve says pulling him into a hug and reassuring him that she's not angry.
Dave holds her to him tight. "I love you too, Eve Saunders."
