There is a knock at the door and Zander excuses himself to answer it and is chagrined to find not their dinner but a florist delivery. "Thank you," Zander says and gives the delivery person the tip he had ready for the food delivery.
He doesn't even have to look at the card to know who it's from. He's smirking when he goes back into the sitting area. "For you, Eve."
Zander carefully hands her the flowers that are already in a vase. Eve inhales the smell and although she knows who they are from she allows the fragrance to deflect her anger. "Read me the card?"
Zander takes the card from the bouquet, and starts laughing before he could get the first word out. Once he calmed down he has the definite attention of both of the other occupants in the room. "As you guessed they're from the boss.
"If you got this far, thank you. Even if you can't forgive me, please enjoy the flowers. I will be in Seattle later today to deal with the mess you allowed me to handle for you." This causes them both to snigger a bit.
"I would be honored if you would allow me to talk to you before I leave again. Please." Zander reads, "and then it's signed Dave."
Eve has tears in her eyes. Seeing this Peter takes the flowers from her and places them on the coffee table in front of them. "You don't have to talk to him if you don't want to, Eve. What he did doesn't deserve forgiving. He broke his promise to you and you deserve someone that sees you as the most important person in their life."
"That's how I felt until he broke that promise. Was it stupid of me to actually believe that he loved me?" Eve asks them both before breaking out in sobs.
This time it's Peter that goes to answer the door and bring in their dinner. While Peter is busy doing that Zander is doing his best to comfort Eve. "I thought he loved you too, Eve. We all thought so. There was a way he looked at you even when he thought no one was watching that spoke clearly of his love.
"I was almost as shocked to find another woman in the room as you were. I never thought he'd do that to you, Eve, honestly. He about worshiped the ground you walked on."
"Perhaps, but I think in order for him to be faithful to me he would have had to worship not just about worshiped the ground I walked on.
"I hate how this makes me feel, not just the tears, but the ugliness inside. It's changing me and I don't like how it's changing me."
"I know that Peter says he doesn't deserve forgiveness for this, but you deserve to forgive him so it doesn't destroy you. That doesn't mean you take him back, hell no, you do deserve better than that. But forgive him so you don't lose you.
"We all love you, Eve. We understand why you left and we are less than pleased. I know it doesn't mean you'll come home, but know that we do love you." Zander tells her and lets her cry for a bit before setting her back.
He hands her a tissue and makes sure that she's okay before saying, "Now that that has been dealt with let's eat." Eve chuckles which is what he'd been going for and nods her assent.
Long used to her needs and abilities Zander helps her slather her baked potato in sour cream, like how she likes it, and tells her where to find everything.
After that the three relax and joke as they eat. All in all it is a very relaxed and nice meal. The best she's had in a long time. She's been feeling very alone since she left the estate. Having Zander and Peter here helps her feel not so lost and alone. But there is still that hole in her chest that her heart used to occupy.
"Eve, what did you do to the companies that insulted your abilities?" Zander asks curiously as they were done eating and now just chatting companionably.
"I sent a virus to their main computers through their public website. Before their tech's will detect it it will start erasing vast amounts of data."
Peter is now not so relaxed, "Irretrievable loss?" He knows how devastating that can be to a company.
Eve has a small smile, reminiscent of the Mona Lisa. "Eve?" Peter says in dread.
"That will depend on whether they have things backed up or not. But not if they have the right person to find it for them." Eve says allowing the smirk to come out fully.
"And you just so happen to be the right person?" Zander groans out.
"Anyone with my qualifications would do."
"Who did you attack?" Peter asks with a groan.
Eve lists a bunch of businesses and now it's Zanders turn to sit up in alarm.
"That last one belongs to the mafia here. Eve, you take that business down and they'll declare war on Dave. And you'll be the first casualty."
Eve sighs, "Hand me your phone." Eve had already sent footage of the altercation to Dave's phone earlier. "Dave, how nice of you to answer so readily." Eve says as Dave answers.
Dave was walking out of the airport but stops at her words. "Eve, not that I don't want to talk to you, but why the hell are you calling me and on Zander's phone no less?"
"I sent you the footage of what happened earlier between Riley and myself. Make sure that the boss sees that. Then you might want to warn him that because his stupid ass personnel dept wouldn't even look at me that I sent them a gift."
"Shit. Do I even want to know?" Dave asks the pain in his stomach growing along with that in his head.
"Not really, but Zander said that it could lead to war if it goes to fruition." Eve says complacently thoroughly enjoying Dave's discomfiture.
"What. Did. You. Do?" Dave demands.
"I sent a worm to their business that would erase vast quantities of information unless they have a qualified IT person to stop and reverse it."
"And you are that person?" Dave smirks, he happens to agree with her.
"Well myself or those that are my equal of course."
"You know you are blackmailing a mafia," Dave warns her.
"I know, and it's so fun. Aren't you glad I didn't aim it at you. After all I have the codes for all your businesses, it would be a piece of cake for me to destroy every business you own. But I don't hate you that much.
"By the way, you should give Zander a raise, he's talked me into meeting with you before you leave Seattle."
"If I leave. Your little blackmail scheme might be enough to get me killed." Dave sighs out.
"Well then I'll deal with him and there won't be a mafia left when I get done. I might even let the others help me." Eve says thoughtfully.
Dave is so shocked that he can't say anything. "Does that mean you don't hate me now? That you still love me?" Dave closes his eyes in prayer.
"I never stopped loving you, Dave. It was you that stopped loving me. I can't be around someone that has no problem hurting me like that."
"You sound almost like you'd like them to kill me?" Dave says hesitantly.
"Then the alliance would definitely be over wouldn't it. But does that mean that it would become mine?"
"If I died and you are alive, then yes. The combined mafia's would then revert to you. If that does happen keep Zander as your underboss. You trust him and he can be your eyes."
"Of course I would. Then I would add Peter as well. You might want to let me know how the meeting goes. When is it?"
Dave looks at the time. "In one hour there at the hotel restaurant."
"Oh, how delightful!" Eve says with true happiness.
Now the pain in his stomach erupts like never before. "No, Eve don't come to the meeting. It will be very dangerous."
"But if I don't how will I know whether or not to stop the worm in time or replace the missing information?"
"Eve, I swear you're trying to kill me." Dave grits out. "Fine, I'll come and get you, you'll need to dress in the finest thing you have." Dave doesn't think she took her nice dresses with her.
"Great, I'll be in business attire. Make sure they won't have a hissy fit when we walk into the five star restaurant in less than formal dress."
"I'll talk to them." Dave hangs up before Eve can say anything else to make his life hell. He gets out of the cab with a smile though.
He stops by the front desk just long enough to pick up his key card and give instructions. That's long enough for the bellhop to catch up to him at the elevator.
He can't wait for Sergio to meet his little hell cat and be bested by her.
