"Let's go out tonight," Dave says coming into the room. He goes behind Eve and snuggles into her neck. Ever since she told him that she likes that he does it whenever he can and Eve isn't complaining. Nor does she complain as he pulls her closer and runs his hands over her.
"Is it safe?" She manages to get out rather than the moan of pleasure that was threatening.
She feels Dave chuckle, "It's never safe for me to go out. I don't want either of us to live our lives in fear."
Eve remembers what she wants to talk to Dave about and so pulls away from him. She immediately feels the loss of his heat, but it makes it easier to think as well.
"Eve? Did I do something wrong?" Dave asks confused at her moving away from him.
"No, you haven't done anything, but I can't think when you are like that and there's something I need to know." Eve bites her lip. She's pretty sure that Dave isn't going to like the question and she's honestly not sure how he's going to feel or respond.
"What's wrong?" Dave asks in concern and tries to go to her and pull her in his arms again but she steps forward again.
"Stop, please, I'm just trying to get my courage up to talk to you about this." Dave stops immediately and stiffens.
"I won't hurt you, no matter what you talk about." Dave tries to reassure her.
Eve tries to give him a smile but she's still worried, "I hope so." She takes a deep breath while Dave watches her with trepidation. Eve never has a problem talking about things with him.
"After we are married and even before," Eve's voice breaks and she looks away.
"What is it?" Dave now asks worriedly.
"Are you going to be spending time with other women? It will kill me to find out that you are still with others I don't think-" Dave pulls her to him and gives her a hard kiss.
"By the time you told that bitch off, I was only with other females because I needed a distraction from my thoughts about you. I don't want any other females, just you." Dave reassures her.
Eve lets her tears run down. "I'm sorry, I had to ask. Do you know what the last thing I saw was?"
Dave takes the hair from her face and places it behind her ear, "I don't."
"My father fucking another woman. Once he was done she takes out a gun and shoots him. Then there is a pain as something strikes my head and I wake up blind. I'm told that my parents are dead."
"Shit," Dave says holding her. He can't imagine seeing something like that. Seeing her father having sex alone would be traumatizing but it being someone other than her mother and then that person killing her father. Perhaps it was mental trauma after all that caused her blindness. He can definitely see why.
"One thing, I never understood why they didn't just kill me then. There was obviously a traitor among those closest to my father to knock me out after the bitch killed my father, but they didn't kill me. I never understood that."
"They loved you. They didn't like how your father was running the mafia and so they took him out. Your mother wasn't innocent. She had her own lovers. She was killed by her lover just like your father was killed by his." Dave decides it's better that she knows the truth since she saw what she did.
"I, I had no idea," Eve says faintly and Dave is quick to take her to the sofa and having her sit.
"I'm not very good at giving bad news, obviously. I'm sorry. The man that knocked you out, he didn't mean to cause you to go blind. He just needed you to behave while they dealt with other things. They knew that you would be under my father's protection once your father was killed. They were more than content with that."
Eve can't hold in the tears, "My parents were betrayed by those they trusted to protect them. And now you expect me to be happy with the protection of your men?"
Eve is trying really hard to not have a panic attack right that moment and is having a hard time controlling it. "Breathe with me, Eve." Dave says sitting next to her.
Eve does her best to breathe with Dave and finds her breathing coming more naturally. "Thank you."
"Would it have been better to not have told you what I knew?" Dave asks in concern.
Eve thinks about things and shakes her head, "No, it's better for me to know. Ignorance may be bliss, but when it comes to the mafia, it could eventually kill you." She gives a small smile.
"You're more likely to die by knowing," Reed refutes coming into the room. "Boss, do I need to get the men for your date?"
Eve looks towards Dave, "Date?"
Dave smirks at her although he knows that she can't see it, "I asked you if you'd like to go out for dinner, remember?"
Eve's eyes widen in shock, "Sorry, with all the other information I totally forgot. It would be nice to get out, if you think it safe enough."
"I'll make it safe, where would you like to go?" Dave asks softly.
"You let me choose last time. I really have no idea, why don't you choose this time?"
Reed smiles at the byplay between the two. Since Dave found out that Lydia is Eve he's become much calmer unless the Italians or the traitor are mentioned. He likes how the two are so easy with each other.
"Make a reservation at La Se..." Dave's voice trails off as he leaves the room with Reed giving him instructions.
Eve uses that time to mull over the things that she recently found out. Not only did her father have an affair on her mother, but her mother had affairs on her father. Apparently neither one cared about the other like she had thought.
It's even more disturbing that they were both killed by said lovers and she was knocked out by one of the very men that she had trusted.
"Eve?" a voice that she recognizes but can't place.
"Who's there?" Eve says in fear. It isn't someone that she's familiar with.
"No need to fear me. I was one of the men from your father's mafia. I was there the day your father was killed."
This doesn't reassure her. "Are you the one that knocked me out?" Eve demands hoping that Dave will return soon.
"I was there, but I wasn't the one that hit you. Him and all those that betrayed your father are now dead."
The man's voice doesn't do much to reassure her, but she's not about to jump up in fear either.
"Are you going to betray me now?" Eve wishes her voice came out more as a demand and less wavery and full of fear.
"No, I would never do that. Just as the boss has been searching for you so have I and the other members of your father's mafia." The unknown man is quick to say and stops moving forward trying to ease her fear of him.
"Eve, there is no reason to fear him. He is to be your full time personal bodyguard. His name is Peter. You can trust him as much as you can me." Dave says coming back into the room and does his best to ease Eve's obvious distress.
"You expect me to trust someone from that mafia after telling me that those very men are responsible for my parents..." Eve starts crying.
Dave lets out an expletive and goes over to her and holds him to her tight. He doesn't like how much she's shaking. "He will do everything in his power to keep you safe. You can trust him, I trust him."
"How can you?"
"He's proved himself over the years, all the surviving members of your father's mafia have proven themselves far more than my own men. They are absolutely loyal to both of us, but like my men, you have their trust even before me."
"I don't know that I can trust him." Eve says in a voice whisper thin.
"Then trust me, can you do that?" Dave asks her.
"Yes, I can do that."
"Then trust me when I say that he can be trusted with your life." Dave says now holding her face gently in his hands.
"Okay." Eve says but Dave can still feel her shaking. He frowns but nods at Peter.
Peter leaves at Dave's nod and closes the door behind him.
