Chapter III - "Careless whisper"

Carlos and his teammate were still doing their interview. While I was waiting for them, I decided to refresh my make up a bit. I put some lip balsam and powder on my chicks, so that I will be sure their redness would not be so visible.

When I heard that the interview came to an end, I immediately put my things back in my purse and closed it. I fixed my hair and sight just to get more confident. I did not know why my hands were still shaking and my heart rate did not want to calm. I was so nervous that even a cold sweat came out on my back.

And then they turned to me. As I saw the young man next to Sainz, my jaw dropped. In my head started to play the George Michael's song "Careless whisper" and my heart turned upside down. This gorgeous man, dressed in a red race suit, with well-trained body and rose beige skin immediately caught my attention. I did not know why I felt so attracted to him, but his appearance left an imprint in my mind.

Both drivers came closer. Now I had the chance to see the man much better. He had a sharp jawline, clean shaven beard, plump rose lips, and deep green-blue eyes. They were so full of happiness, hope, lust for life.

- Lissa, let me introduce you my teammate, Charles Leclerc – said Carlos enthusiastically.

- Lissa Bernardi – I extended my hand to the young man. – Nice to meet you, Lord Perceval!

I felt so stupid calling him by the nickname Carlos has used but it was too late to take my words backwards.

- The pleasure is all mine! – he took my hand and kissed the back of my palm.

When his lips touched my skin, I immediately felt shivers all over my body. My heat skipped a beat when he raised his head and smiled widely revealing pure white teeth, and two cute little dimples on both of his cheeks. Oh, those dimples!

For a second, we both lost in our eyes. He was staring at me raptly, like no one did ever before. I could not take my eyes of his face. Divinely beautiful or devilishly handsome I could not tell, but we both were looking at each other without moving, speaking, or even breathing.

- Guys, is everything alright? – I heard Carlos' voice and that brought me back to the reality.

- Yeah... So, what is the occasion of your visit miss Bernardi? – asked in a sudden Charles.

They both were speaking with me in Italian, which made me feel special, also gave me the opportunity to communicate with them more easily.

- Business... – I replied flatly.

- By the way, your phone rings, Lissa – Carlos broke into the conversation.

I was so stunned of Leclerc's appearance that I have not heard my phone ringing. I realized that when the vibration of couple of messages shook my purse.

- Just a second, please! – I said and opened it, while my collocutors looked puzzled at each other.

I saw the message from my mum, who was asking me about the interview. I replied fast that we will see us at Bologna in an hour, then went back to the boys.

- Sorry about that guys, but I should go now – I said sadly.

- But you haven't told us why are you... - tried to say Charles.

- Sorry I really need to go now – I interrupted him. – We will see us again in Bahrain.

- Will you be there? – Leclerc's voice sounded like he was hoping for my positive answer.

- Of course, Lord Perceval! – I winked and waved for goodbye. – Bye, Carlos!

I turned my back on my new acquaintances and ran to the exit of the garage.

- Cinderella, by the way you can call me "Smooth operator"! – I heard the Spanish accent in the distance.

I laughed without replying, just continue walking through the circuit to my car.

#

After an hour I reached to my parents' house in Bologna where my mum was waiting for me with a cup of hot coffee. Spontaneously as always, we decided to take some luggage and drive to see my favorite godmother – aunt we all called Nonna Ludovika. She was living at the island Capri, but an eight-hour ride was not an obstacle for us.

#

It was almost 11 pm when we arrived at the port city. I drove one more hour to reach the final destination and after a long travel with car and ferryboat, we finished our little journey at my godmother's house on the island.

Despite of the late hour Nonna Ludovika welcomed warm her niece and grandniece. She was living alone at the old house of my grandma, taking care of it, after my grandfather moved to Bologna near to the business and his daughter. The godmother was always happy when was having a guests, especially when they were me and my mother. She immediately made us a Panini and hot milk for diner.

While we were eating, Nonna Ludovika got our rooms ready and after some small talks and a quick gossiping we managed to go to bed.

#

The next morning, I woke up from the rising Sun's light entering my room through the large French windows. I opened my eyes and smiled satisfied of the view. I was in my old room designed in a Mediterranean style with pure white walls, light blue coverlets, ivory cushions, and same colored couch next to the windows. I looked at my phone left on the oak wooden nightstand and saw the clock – 8:30 am.

I went to the kitchen and noticed that my mum and Nonna Ludovika were already eating their breakfast at the terrace. I greeted them then got back at the kitchen. While I was making myself a coffee, I started whistling the song that came to my mind when I saw Charles yesterday. I did not know why but this music did not go out of my mind the whole day and night. I was constantly thinking about his pure eyes, looking at me, soft lips touching my hand, and beautiful angel face. Why he even kissed my hand?! Like this was so old-school. We are not at 18. Century. Yeah, that way he definitely left an imprint on my mind. But I was wondering does he had this intention or it's just his way of behavior.

After my drink was ready, I went to the terrace and sat at the table with my mother and aunt, still whistling the song.

- Sophia, what is this melody? – asked Nonna.

- A song that yesterday we had listened to at the car almost ten times – replied my mum and gave me a suspicious gaze. – I do not know why she suddenly started to like it so much. It is a new thing for me.

- It is a jazz – I said and shrugged my shoulders. – I adore it.

- Is there something other you adore that we still do not know about? – asked a next question Ludovika.

I froze and looked at my aunt shocked. She smirked raising her eyebrows.

- No, I have nothing to tell you – I said embarrassed and took a sip of my coffee.

- Are sure? – added my mother. – You seem a bit distracted since yesterday.

- Well, I am just tired – I replied with a light smile.

Both women looked at each other and snorted. I leaned myself back in my chair and stared at the view. While watching the beautiful blue sea waves, shining under the sunlight, I was slowly biting a homemade Amaretti biscuit. My mother and aunt were talking about the warm sunny day at Capri and next started discussing the world chronicles. I was barely listening to them.

Then spontaneously remembered again about the shiny blue – green eyes of Charles. They were so pure, his gaze – so tender. Looking through them people could see his beautiful innocent soul.

In a fit of rage, cause of my thoughts, I threw the biscuit at the plate in front of me and said sharply:

- Ladies, I want to ask you something!

They stopped talking and looked at me outraged. I sight heavily and shook my head in disbelief.

- Have you ever met someone for a first time and had the feeling you know this person for ages? – I asked.

- It happened to me once or twice – replied my mum thoughtfully.

- Why are you asking us this? – my aunt raised her eyebrows and grinned. – Have you met someone?

- Oh, God, no! – I exclaimed, trying to hide my embarrassment. – I am asking for a friend...

- You know what... - she said and wiggled her fingers. – Give me your cup!

- No, not again, Nonna! – I rolled my eyes.

- Come on, you know I like to do it! – begged Ludovika.

I looked unsecure to my mother, who smiled and nodded encouragingly. A heavy sigh escaped my lips then I handed my cup to Nonna Ludovika. She took it, put on her sunglasses and started staring at its bottom.

- Why haven't you told me that you got a new job? – my aunt asked.

- And you saw that at the coffee grounds? – I was shocked.

- No, your mum told me – she answered.

- Well, I am still not sure that I have a new job... However, yesterday I was on an interview and...

- You will get it – Nonna interrupted me. – I see you'll have a lot of rivals...

- I do – I smirked. – What else?

- A lot of travelling... - she continued. – But it will be hard. Hmm... interesting. You must be really careful. You will be involved in something dangerous. Don't worry you will have great success, but always have something on mind. Do not trust everyone so easily, Lissa. Some people only look like they are good inside.

- Nonna, these words scare me – I said worried. – What dangerous thing are you talking about.

- Don't know – she shook her head then smiled playfully. – Oh, I would like to see what is going to happen here.

- Where, Nonna? – I almost shouted. – Please, tell me!

- No, no, you will see it in the future – Ludovika passed me the cup back. – Now, go and make yourself another one or wash the dishes.

- Nonna, please, tell me what you saw at the coffee – I begged her.

- Will you drink another coffee? – she asked me, and I furrowed my eyebrows.

- No, I am going to check my email if there is some work to do – I snorted.

I got angry that my godmother does not want to tell me what she had found at the coffee grounds. I was scared if it is bad or good, but she was just smiling, looking at the sea and mumbling something under her nose.

I stood up from my chair and I headed to the kitchen, but my mum stopped me.

- Lissa let's get for walk through the island – she said then I turned to her. – You will have enough time to work all week... And all life, also.

- Mum, it is important – I tried to protest but she laughed.

- Darling, nothing is more important than the well lived life – my mother smiled. – Come on, your father and granddad left us here alone because of the business trip to the Dominican Republic. Do you think that I will stay at home and clean the house whole week?

I sighed and smiled softly.

- Work can wait – I said and winked at both ladies. – I am going to change my clothes and then we will go for a walk.

Then I went back to the house. I looked at the bottom of the coffee cup but there was not anything. Only brown lines like mud.

- Maybe she is just bluffing! – I whispered to myself.

After that I washed the cup and went to my room.
