Chapter 21

Michael was sitting in the living room, watching a movie, or rather he tried to watch a movie. He found it difficult to concentrate on the screen. His thoughts kept on drifting to Jessie, and it was painful and frustrating at the same time. He knew he shouldn't think about her because she had probably moved on. Michael had advised himself several times not to think about Jessie or ponder over where she was, but his mind simply wouldn't listen to him.

He sighed and closed his eyes. A few seconds later, he opened them when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Michael looked over his shoulders and saw Ariel.

"Hey," Ariel said softly.

"Hi. Come take a seat." Michael gestured at the space next to him.  He knew Ariel wanted to say something to him, but she was reluctant about It. "Is there something you want to say to me?"

Michael watched as Ariel opened her mouth but shut it when no words came out of it. Ariel slowly shook her head.

"Come on, Ariel. Spill it," Michael ordered gently.

"Well, I was wondering if you will..." she trailed off.  She played with her hair and avoided her uncle's gaze. “Umm, do you want to talk to Jessie?"

Hearing Jessie's name made Michael's heart skip a beat. He looked at Ariel in bewilderment. "Jessie?" Even calling out her name made his heart beat faster. "Do you know where she is?" His voice sounded hopeful.

"Not really.” She saw her uncle’s hopeful face fall. “But Grey and I can find out where she is," she quickly added.

Michael couldn't form a sentence. He stared at Ariel for a few minutes before he shook his head. "I doubt that's a good idea."

"Why not?"

"I don't think it's good to know where she is. Jessie made it clear that she doesn't want me and had I wanted to find her, I could have done that, but I chose not to do so.”

"But what if she had her reasons behind leaving. Don't you want to find out?”

"I don't know, Ariel, but I want to avoid being heartbroken for the second time. If she were to reject me again, I don't think I will survive it." Michael's expressions were very painful. "Excuse me.” Michael stood up from the couch and left.

Ariel watched her uncle leave, and she felt awful for making him sad. She stood up from the couch and proceeded to look for her father. "Hey, Dad."

"What is it? You look worried," Raguel said.

"I messed up."

"What did you do?"

Ariel explained everything to her father.

"Ariel!" Raguel groaned.

"I know, Dad, I'm sorry."

"Where is he?"

"He went outside."

"I will go talk to him." Raguel attempted to stand, but Anna stopped him. She had been listening to their conversion.

"I will go talk with him." She left no room for Raguel to argue as she stood up and went ahead.

               *****
Michael was pacing around. He was trying his best not to tear up. 'She doesn't want me. I should always remember that.’

"Hey, Michael." Anna pulled him out of his thoughts.

Michael turned around to see Anna standing by the door. "Hi, Anna. I'm fine if that's the reason you are here."

"Are you sure you are fine?"

"I will be fine."

"Don't give up, Michael."

"You are telling me not to give up?" Michael chuckled.

"Yes."

"I have given up already. You told me things would get better, and I believed it for a while, but now I don't even know what to believe anymore. I thought it had gotten better when Jessie came, but I was wrong. She walked away from me. So, don't stand there and tell me not to give up," Michael yelled.

"It might look like nothing is working, but believe me when I say this, Michael. It will get better. Don't give up." Anna went back into the house.

Michael sighed and let the tears slide. 'When will it get better?'

It didn't take long for Raguel to come outside, and when Michael noticed his presence, he discreetly wiped the tears from his eyes. However, when he heard his friend sigh, he knew it was pointless to hide the tears because he had seen them. Michael looked at Raguel's concerned expressions. "I'm fine."

Raguel didn't say anything. He just pulled Michael into a hug, and Michael clung to his friend as if his life depended on it.

A few seconds later, Michael pulled back from the hug. "Where is Ariel?"

"Probably in her room."

"I will go talk to her."

"Okay." Raguel watched as Michael made his way into the house.

Jessie was sitting on her bed with her sister.  She had so many thoughts strolling through her mind.

"You called his name again in your sleep."

Jessie knew who her sister was talking about. She opened up her mouth to say something in her defense but shut it when she couldn't come up with anything.

"And before you deny it, I recorded it." Sunshine had a proud smile on her face.

"You can't be serious."

"I am." Sunshine grinned.  You can listen to it if you want.," She held up the cell phone for her sister.

Jessie sighed softly and collected the phone from Sunshine.

Sunshine immediately stood up from the bed.

"Where are you going?

"Outside. I want to give you space to listen to the record." She blew her sister a kiss before she left the house.

Jessie shook her head. She took a deep breath before she played the record. She closed her eyes tightly as she heard Michael's name come out of her mouth. "I miss him so much," she whispered. Her eyes snapped open when she heard a noise. "Sunshine, is that you?"

When she didn't get any response, she stood up from the bed and was about to go to the backyard, but before she could make it outside, the front door was pushed open. Jessie froze when she saw a demon holding her sister. She knew the man was a demon because she recognized him from the Demon’s zone.

"Jessie, please don't let them take me." Sunshine's eyes watered.

"What do you want?"

"You," the demon spat.

" Our Master desires you," another demon said.

Jessie didn't even realize that they were more than one demon because she had her eyes on her sister. She looked around and saw that at least ten demons were snarling at her. "Let go of my sister," Jessie ordered.

The demons laughed hard. "You don't call the shots here. You are going to come with us," said the demon who was still holding Sunshine.

"I'm not going anywhere with you."

"You don't have a choice. Go get her," the demon ordered.

Jessie took her stance to fight. She pushed the first demon that attacked her, knocking him out instantly. The other demons didn't waste any time standing up, and all lunged at her.

Michael was sitting in the living room with the entire family when all of a sudden, he felt uneasy. 'What is going on? Who needs my help?'

Raguel was by his side immediately. “What is happening?”

"Someone needs my help."

"Who?"

"Let me find out." Michael closed his eyes and linked his fingers together. His brows furrowed in concentration. His eyes snapped open with shock. "Jessie," he whispered.

"What?"

"Jessie is in trouble with the demons. I have to go get her." Michael stood up.

"Wait a minute. You are not going anywhere.” Raguel shook his head.

"Why not? I know Jessie hurt me, but I can't neglect the duties Heaven had assigned to me. She's human, and she needs my help."

"Look at you, Michael. You have been down since Jessie left. I don't think you have the strength to face the demons."

"I will try," Michael said firmly.

Raguel shook his head. “You need to save them and not try. Let me go instead."

"But—"

"No but, Michael. I will go, and that's final." Raguel gave Michael a stern look.

"I will come with you, Raguel," Grey said from where he was sitting next to Ariel.

"Okay. Where is she?"

Michael quickly gave them the directions according to wherever he sensed Jessie was.

Raguel nodded his head. "We will leave now." He flashed his wings.

"Bring them back safely," Michael whispered.

"We will," Raguel said, and with that, he and Grey left.
