Chapter 19
It had been two weeks since Michael and Jessie got together, well, not really together because Michael was yet to confess his feelings for her. He felt Jessie had a lot on her mind, and she still had Sunshine to think about. Sunshine's nightmares stopped after she talked with the Angel Raguel brought along, but Michael observed that Jessie was distant, and he knew it was not because of Sunshine, and it worried him.
Michael was very determined to find out what was going on with her. Though he had tried talking to her before, Jessie always changed the topic, but he wasn't going to let that happen again, even if he had to force the answer out from her.
Michael glanced at the stairs when he heard footsteps. He gave Jessie a smile when their eyes met, but instead of returning the smile, she averted her eyes. Michael regrettably sighed when Jessie averted her eyes from him. 'I wonder what is wrong with her?'
"Hey, Michael," Sunshine greeted and sat next to him.
"Hi."
"Are you alright?" Sunshine asked.
Michael smiled. He had noticed that Sunshine was very observant for her young age. She always knew when something was wrong. She was very confident, and you wouldn't know she was the scared kid who was rescued from the Demon’s zone.
Michael didn't want to lie to her about being fine. "I will be fine, Sunshine," he eventually said.
"You can talk to me about anything, and I will surely understand."
"You are six," Michael pointed out.
"So?" Sunshine pouted
"I can't talk about everything with you."
"Why? I may be a child, but I'm sensible, and I can see what is going on."
Michael looked at Sunshine as if she had two heads.
"Don't look at me like that." Sunshine rolled her eyes. "I have seen the way you look at my sister, and I can tell you like her."
Michael chuckled. "Good observation."
Sunshine grinned. "So, are you going to tell me what is wrong with you? Is this about my sister?"
"Yes.”
"Then you have to talk to her."
"I will."
"Don't forget to tell her about your feelings too," Sunshine whispered before Jessie called her to the dining table. Sunshine winked at Michael before she hurried to the dining table.
Michael smiled before he stood up and walked to the dining room. During breakfast, Michael would sometimes glance at Jessie, and most of the time, he would find her playing with her food. She also looked disturbed. After breakfast, he watched Jessie disappear into the kitchen. He was about to follow her, but he was stopped by Sunshine.
"What is it?” Michael asked, but he still had his eyes glued in the direction of the kitchen.
"Let's take a stroll."
"Hmm....okay. We should inform your sister.”
"I have told her. Now let's go." Sunshine pulled him to the door.
Michael sighed a little and looked in the direction of the kitchen one last time before they left.

Jessie stood close to the window in her bedroom as she stared at nothing in particular. She allowed Sunshine to go with Michael because she needed space to think. Jessie had noticed that Sunshine and Michael had gotten close, and Sunshine sometimes preferred Michael's company to hers. She breathed before she walked back to sit on her bed. Things with Michael had been going on very well over the previous weeks. However, she was aware that she had been distant, but she had a reason for it.
Being with Michael made her happy, but she still had doubts in her mind, and that doubt made her take a drastic decision. "It's for the best. I need to leave this place with my sister. We don't belong here. I'm scared of what will happen to me when Michael's soulmate finally shows up." The thought of seeing Michael with another woman had her slightly shaken. Jessie knew it might be hard to start to fend for herself and her sister again, but she knew she could survive without the angels.
She took in a deep breath before she made her way downstairs. When Jessie reached down, the entire family was seated in the living room. She took another deep breath before moving further into the living area.
"Jessie.” Elena looked at her, and she could tell something was up with her. "Are you alright?"
"I'm leaving," Jessie announced.
The entire room went silent, and all of them stared at Jessie with confusion.
"Why are you leaving? Did something happen?" Elena asked.
"Nothing happened. I simply feel like I have overstayed my welcome," Jessie lied.
"That's nonsense. You know you are always welcome to stay here as long as you want."
Jessie shook her head slightly. "I do appreciate what you all have done for me right from the moment I stepped into this house. I'm truly grateful, but it's time for me to leave. I have to figure my life out and how to take care of my sister."
"But—"
"No, Elena." Jessie shook her head. “I have to go. Thank you."
Elena pulled Jessie into a hug. "I don't know your actual reason for wanting to leave, but please think this through."
When Elena pulled back, the entire family took turns in hugging Jessie before she left for her room.

'Come back home immediately.'
Michael frowned when he heard Raguel's voice through Angel's whisper. 'What is going on?'
'There is no time for questions. Just get home quickly.'
Michael didn't like the way Raguel's voice sounded, and it made him worried. He looked at Sunshine, who was already staring at him.
"What is wrong?"
"I don't know, but we have to go back home now."
"Come on, let's go then." Sunshine pulled Michael's hand, but when Michael refused to move, she stared at him confusedly. "Why are you not moving?"
"I have wings. It will be faster if we want to reach home soon.”
Sunshine looked around. "They are humans everywhere."
Michael hastily pulled her to a corner. He watched the humans carefully, and when he was sure they were not paying attention to them, he spread his wings and wrapped his arms around Sunshine as they headed home.

Michael saw Raguel and Elena pacing around the living room when he entered the house. "Is everything alright?"
"Jessie is leaving," Raguel announced.
"What?"
"Did something happen between you two?"
"No. I will go talk to her." Michael headed for Jessie's room immediately. When he opened the door, he saw her packing her things up. "What are you doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing?" Jessie snapped.
"Why are you leaving?" Michael ignored Jessie's tone.
"You don't expect me to stay here forever, or do you?"
Michael remained silent and stared at Jessie as she turned her back on him and continued packing her bags.
"What about us?" Michael asked calmly.
"Us? There is no us."
"We kissed. Did that not mean anything to you?"
"It was just a kiss, Michael. People kiss all the time."
"Where did I go wrong?"
"Nowhere. I'm just tired of staying here. One day, you will find your soulmate, and you will be happy.
"Is this about me finding my soulmate? Then don't leave because I don't have a soulmate."
"What do you mean by that? Every angel has a soulmate. Elena even said you have one, but she is yet to come."
"That was before she knew that I don't have a soulmate. If you can just sit down, I will explain everything," Michael said desperately.
"No need for that. I don't care if you have a soulmate or not. I'm leaving, and that's final." Jessie pushed past Michael and went into the bathroom.
She came out shortly, and Michael held her to stop her from moving.
"Don't touch me!" Jessie yelled. "What is your problem? Because we kissed and made out a few times does not mean you own me. You are nothing to me."
Michael's chest tightened hearing Jessie's last words. His heart thumped, and it fought for space in his chest. Michael had to hold on to something to keep himself from falling. "Jessie, please don't do this. I'm begging you."
Jessie ignored his plea and headed downstairs with her packed bag. She avoided everyone's eyes and pulled her sister away from Elena.
"I would prefer not to go," Sunshine protested.
"You don't have a choice," Jessie snapped and dragged Sunshine.
"Please," Sunshine pleaded with tears in her eyes.
Elena wrapped her arms around herself to stop her from reaching out to Sunshine. She just watched as Sunshine was dragged out of the house.
They heard the front door close, and Raguel turned to look at Elena before he remembered Michael was still upstairs. He ran up the stairs immediately. The condition Michael was in broke his heart. "Michael," Raguel whispered.
Michael didn't acknowledge him, and Raguel moved ahead and wrapped his arms around his friend.
"It's hurting now to realize I'm not as important as I thought I was to her. Silly of me to expect too much from her," Michael whispered painfully.
"Michael, don't…."
"Don't say anything, Raguel.” Michael tried to stand up, but he lost his balance and fell Into Raguel's arms. "I loved her."
"I know."
Michael remained quiet as Jessie's last words played in his head. 'You mean nothing to me.'
Well things just took a drastic turn. Stay tuned for more!!
