chapter 13
Jessie rolled on her bed. She wasn't able to get any sleep. A groan escaped her lips as she sat up. She glanced at the time and sighed.
“It's still early,” she muttered.
She laid down, attempting to get some more sleep. However, she ultimately gave up when sleep eluded her.
Jessie stood up from her mattress and made her way downstairs. She was heading to the kitchen when she got a glimpse of someone in the living room. Who could that be at this time? She tried to figure out who the person was. It was really dark, so she had to look closely.
“Jessie,” the person later called out to her.
“Michael,” she responded a few seconds later after the voice registered in her mind. “What are you doing here?” Jessie asked as she moved closer to him.
“I should ask you that,” Michael replied. “Sit down.”
Jessie nodded her head and sat down next to him. She could feel the warmth radiating from his body. All she desired to do was rest her head on his shoulder and have his arms wrapped around her.
“Jessie, you are quiet,” Michael said, snapping her out of her thoughts.
“What?”
“I said you are quiet,” Michael repeated. “Why are you up? Did you have any more nightmares?”
‘Gosh, he doesn't know what he is doing to me,’ she thought to herself.
“No,” Jessie subsequently answered his question. “I couldn't sleep. This thing with the demons is messing with my head. I'm satisfied that the demon virtually confirmed to us that my sister is still alive. I can't wait to see her again,” Jessie poured out her emotions.
“I don't understand what you are going through, Jessie. But I promise you we will get your sister back.”
“Thank you,” Jessie said softly.
“You don't have to thank me. You deserve to be happy, Jessie. And you deserve to have your sister with you.”
Jessie nodded her head. “Why are you up?”
“I thought you would have noticed by now,” Michael said.
“Notice what?” Jessie asked, confused.
“That I don't sleep.”
“At all?”
“Yes. Angels don't sleep,” Michael confirmed. But if we are seriously injured, we need to sleep for an hour to regain our strength.
“I had a mild idea that you probably don't sleep, but I wasn't certain. So, nobody sleeps in this house? All these times I sneaked into the kitchen at night, the angels in the house certainly heard me, but they chose to ignore me? Gosh, I thought I was clever,” she chortled, which made Michael laugh.
“You are honestly clueless,” Michael said with a chuckle.
“It's not my fault that I'm clueless,” Jessie mumbled.
“Actually, it's your fault. You are usually locked up in your room, and you hardly involve yourself in any conservation we have,” Michael pointed out.
“That's true. But I was not like this before,” Jessie admitted. “Losing my parents and my only sister has simply made me quiet. I no longer see the reason to be chatty, but if we had met earlier, you would have known that I'm a great company to have.”
“Really?” Michael asked with a smile.
Jessie nodded her head with a smile on her lips.
“So, everybody upstairs is wide awake now?” Jessie asked.
“No.”
“I thought you said angels don't sleep?” Jessie gave Michael a confused frown.
“Yes, I did. But what you must know is that not all of us are pure angels. Elena is half angel and half human because Elena's mother was human.”
“Was?”
“Yes, was. Elena's biological mother is dead. Maria is her aunt,” Michael explained.
“I'm, without a doubt, clueless,” Jessie said with a gentle smile.
“You wouldn't know unless you are told. Elena didn't know at first that Maria was not her mother.”
“Really?” Jessie asked.
“Yes. It's actually a long story I will tell you some other time, or you can ask Elena. I'm certain she would tell you,” Michael said.
“Okay.”
“And Ariel is also like her mother,” Michael added.
“This is a lot of information,” Jessie chuckled. “Do you want anything to drink?” Jessie stood up.
“No.”
“Okay.” Jessie made her way to the kitchen. She poured herself a drink and walked back to the living room. “I will head back to my room now,” Jessie announced.
“Okay. See you in the morning.”
Jessie smiled at him before she left for her room.

Michael was still seated in the living room. It was 7 am, and he was aware the other angels would probably make an appearance in a few minutes. It was, without a doubt, tiring to be alone all through the nighttime with no person to talk to, but he had gotten used to it, and he was really satisfied he had a little discussion with Jessie before she went to bed.
Raguel and Elena were the first to make an appearance.
“Good morning,” Elena stated in a cheerful tone.
“Good morning,” Michael replied.
Elena then ventured into the kitchen whilst Raguel sat next to Michael.
“How was your night? Raguel asked.
“Good,” Michael answered with a smile. “I have been thinking about a way we can invade the demon's zone, and I think it's time for us to rescue Jessie's sister,” Michael further said.
“So, what did you come up with?” Raguel asked.
Michael explained the plan he had been thinking about.
“I think that could work,” Raguel said after Michael finished his explanation. “We have to inform the others of this plan,” Raguel added.
Michael nodded his head. He glanced to the stairs when he heard footsteps. His eyes connected with Jessie’s, who smiled at him before she averted her eyes and went straight to the kitchen.
After breakfast, the entire family sat in the living room apart from Jessie, who went straight to her bedroom after breakfast.
“So, I have a way to rescue Jessie's sister,” Michael said, getting everybody's attention.
“Let's hear it,” Raphael said.
Michael nodded his head and began explaining the plan.

Jessie was in her room, reading a book she collected from Ariel. She heard a sound that pulled her attention away from the book. She closed it and stood up from the mattress, but before she could take a step forward, a demon appeared in front of her.
“What the hell?” she muttered, shifting backward.
“We meet again,” the demon said with a smug smile.
“How did you get in here?” Jessie asked.
“Where is the demon those stupid Angels captured?” the demon demanded instead of answering Jessie's question.
“I'm not going to tell you,” Jessie snarled at the demon.
“Then I will have to take you with me,” the demon challenged.
“You?” Jessie said mockingly. “I can easily overpower you.”
“But not all of us,” the demon stated as the other demons who were hidden appeared by his side.
Jessie cursed as she moved back until her back was pressed to the wall. “I will take my chances,” she took her stance to fight.
“Attack her!” The demon ordered.

“So that's the plan,” Michael concluded.
“It's a good one,” Raphael commended. ”But…” He suddenly stopped halfway. “Did you hear that?”
“What?” Michael asked. Within seconds his eyes widened in realization.
“Demons,” all said in unison
The Angels flashed their wings. They didn't want to waste any time using the stairs. Michael pushed Jessie's door open and saw her struggling with a demon. The Angels did not waste any time as they joined in the fight.
Michael rapidly rushed to Jessie's side to help her out. He pushed the demon who was holding her down and knocked him off.
“Are you okay?” Michael rapidly asked.
“Yes, I'm fine. Look out!” She suddenly shouted.
Michael quickly rushed out of the way before the demon had a chance to attack him. He focused his attention on the demon as he threw a punch at him. The sound of Jessie's scream distracted him, making a punch land on his face. He closed his eyes for a brief second as the pain washed over him. Michael turned to face Jessie, but before he could help her out, the demon holding onto Jessie vanished with her, leaving no way behind to follow.
Michael stood there frozen as the realization hit him. Jessie had been captured.
