Chapter 50: The Memories She Had Lost
Nue's POV
"Breathe in, breathe out." Iri instructed as she sat next to me. The two of us were in the training grounds, meditating as we sat side by side. As I was meditating, I was levitating about two feet in the air. And just for the hell of it, we started chanting, "Azarath Metrion Zinthos," from Teen Titans.
It's what Raven used to chant whenever she was meditating. Raven was our favorite character in that show and we loved her character. She was so cool. I wasn't wearing my cloak right now, but I had to wear it when I left the house so none of the villagers were looking at them.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos. Azarath Metrion Zinthos. Azarath Metrion Zinthos." Iri and I chanted as we meditated together.
"Stop it!" I turned my head towards the direction of the noise. "Did you hear that?" I asked Iri as I opened my eyes. "Hear what?" She asked, returning the question. "I thought I just heard Sakura yell just now." I said. "I didn't hear anything." Iri confirmed.
Something didn't feel right. "I think I'm going to check on her, just to be sure." I informed as I stood on my feet. "Okay. I think it's about time for a break, anyway. I'm gonna head to the store and buy some stuff. You want anything?" Iri asked.
"No, I'm good. Thanks, anyway." I said as I put on my cloak. I left to the hospital. I heard Sasuke got injured during the mission and Sakura and Naruto said they were gonna go check on him. I was gonna go with them... but I fell asleep. Yeah, I know. Call me a vampire.
I went to Sasuke's room and noticed the door wide open. Not only that, but I saw some apple slices on the floor. "Hello? Anyone here?" I called as I entered the room "Where did everybody go?" I asked myself. I went to the roof, hoping to find someone up there, and I did.
I saw Naruto and Sasuke near two water towers and Kakashi with Sakura. "What did I miss?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Well, Naruto and Sasuke got into fight. They both we were about to kill each other, Naruto using his Rasengan and Sasuke using his Chidori. I think Sasuke was trying to kill him. He's jealous because Naruto's gotten stronger than him," I looked turned my head as Yin Yang stood on my shoulder.
"Why would Sasuke have a need to be jealous? He's strong, too." I mentioned. "That may be. But all Sasuke cares about is getting more power." Yin Yang explained. I looked at Sasuke as he punched the wall next to him out of frustration.
"Maybe I should go talk to him." I suggested. "That's not such a good idea. You should just leave him be for now, Nue. He needs some time to himself." Yin Yang advised. I felt bad I couldn't do anything for Sasuke. But if he needed to be alone, I understand.
I started jumping through the trees so I could get back to the training grounds. I wanted to do some meditating before I fall asleep. "Hey, Yin Yang, where do you disappear off to?" I asked out of curiosity. "I go back to the shop, of course." He answered.
"Hmm..." I closed my eyes for a moment. "Is something wrong?" Yin Yang asked me. "I sense a strange power from you. But somehow, it's different." I mentioned before opening my eyes. Yin Yang looked at me for a minute until he yelled, "Nue, look out!"
As I was jumping to the next tree, something hard hit my back, making fall to the ground with a hard thud. "Ow.... What the hell just hit me?" I groaned as my face was in the dirt. "Nue, look up." Yin Yang said. I lazily lifted my head and noticed two boys standing over me.
But they weren't alone. I glanced behind me, spotting a girl and a fat guy standing behind me. "This day just keeps getting better." I mumbled before standing to my feet. "Can I help you?" I asked the four people while rubbing my shoulder.
"Aren't you afraid of us, girl?" The guy with six arms said as he smirked. "Uh... no? Why? Do I need to be afraid of you?" I asked, innocently. "I don't know why Lord Orochimaru wants us to bring him this brat." The fat guy said.
"Orochimaru?" I repeated. Did he send these guys to capture me or something? My eyes widened as I coughed when the fat guy punched me hard in the stomach. I fell to my knees while holding my stomach.
"Who... are you? Why are you doing this?" I asked, wincing slightly. I looked around to find out where Yin Yang went, but I couldn't find him. "You are Nue Houjuu, right?" The guy with gray hair said. I gave a slow nod as I glared at him.
"We are Sound Four. I am Sakon of the West Gate."
"Tayuya of the North Gate."
"I'm Kidomaru of the East Gate."
"Jirobo of the South Gate."
"Yeah? So, what do you want?" I asked. "Our orders are to take you to Orochimaru, who will give you the power you desire." Sakon explained. "I don't want any power. You're talking to the wrong person." I said as the four of them surrounded me.
I hissed in pain when Tayuya grabbed my hair and lifted me up so I was standing on my knees. "You're convinced that you're this sweet little girl, but..." Tayuya pulled my hair back even more as she pointed at the temple of my head.
"What's in here hasn't changed at all. But what does your heart say?" She demanded. "My... heart?" I repeated. What is she talking about? "Hold her down." Sakon ordered. Tayuya kept a tight grip on my hair while Kidomaru and Jirobo had ahold of my arms.
They're way too strong for me. I can't break free. Fear quickly took over my body as I couldn't think straight. Sakon went into his pocket and took out a small test tube filled with dark red liquid. "What is that?" I asked in fear.
"It's blood. Lord Orochimaru's blood." Sakon said. "What's that for?" I asked as I began to struggle. "Drink it." Kidomaru said. "Drink it? No way! Why?" I asked. "According to Kabuto's intel, you'll remember your past if you drink the blood of the person who harmed you. In other words, the person who murdered your clan." Sakon explained, smirk.
"Orochimaru... murdered my clan?" I said in disbelief, my eyes wide. Anger took over me as I began to squirm out of the hold I was in, trying to attack Sakon. "You're angry now, aren't you? Good." Sakon said as he approached me.
"If you drink Orochimaru's blood, you can know the truth about your clan. You can finally know what happened that night." Sakon said. He took off the top and motioned it towards me, wanting me to drink it. I growled and spit in his eye.
"Feisty, are we?" Sakon said as he wiped the spit off his eye. He roughly grabbed under my face so my lips parted slightly. Sakon tilted the test tube towards my mouth as the red liquid landed on my tongue, slowly sliding down my throat.
It felt disgusting. I gasped lightly when I felt my heart pound against my chest. I have only drunken half of the blood from the test tube and my chest was hurting. Kidomaru, Tayuya, and Jirobo released their grip on me and put my hands in the dirt.
I could feel my kekkei genkai acting up as my eyes changed from red to purple to red again.
(Flashback, 8 years ago)
I jumped down from my roof and stabbed a Sound ninja in the head with my katana. I took the blade out of his skull, then ran forward. My clan was under attack, but for what reason? Who was doing this? I quickly hid behind a tree as three kunai knives were thrown at me.
I panted softly as I peeked from behind the tree "You can't keep fighting them, Nue. Their numbers were keep increasing." A little black and white wolf said as it stood by me. I glanced at it. "You." I said in realization.
I hid myself behind the tree again as more weapons were thrown at me. "Damn it." I murmured. I ran out from behind the tree and ran towards two Sound ninjas with my katana in hand as they charged at me. I swung my blade sideways and made it cut deep into the ninja's stomach.
I sliced open his stomach, then stabbed the other ninja. The ninja fell on his back and I panted slightly, staring at his corpse. I winced when I felt a knife hit my shoulder. I took it out and threw it to the ground.
"Such a strong girl you've become, Nue," I looked towards the smoke of the flames as I recognized the voice. "Orochimaru." I growled, my eyes changing to purple. I fell to my knees, thrusting my blade into the ground so I could keep my balance.
What's happening to me? Why do I feel weak all of a sudden? My vision began to blur. The kunai that was thrown at me earlier... It must've had some sort of poison to make me weak. "I'm surprised you're able to fight and at such a young age. I want to know why you're so persistent. I want you... Nue." Orochimaru said.
The figure standing next to him pounced at me. I wasn't quick enough and I got my ass kicked.
Sakon's POV
"Do you think she remembers yet?" Kidomaru asked. "How am I supposed to know?" Jirobo said. Ten minutes have passed and Nue's made no movement as her eyes glowed purple. "She's probably stuck somewhere. Let me kill her, just to end her misery." Tayuya said as she grew impatient.
"We have our orders, Tayuya." I reminded her. I looked at Nue with my arms crossed over my chest, then smirked. "You know, there's one thing I'll admit about her," I walked behind Nue. "She's beautiful for a freak. Strong even. Hell, she's practically a god," I smirked as I stroked Nue's hair.
"Just think what would happen if she joined Orochimaru. No one would get in her way." I said while Tayuya rolled her eyes. "I wonder if she's immortal?" Kidomaru said. "What makes you say that?" I asked.
"If you think about it, she's endured many wounds and yet, she's still alive. That's why I ask." He answered. "This is getting annoying. We're wasting too much time with her." Tayuya said, quickly growing impatient.
She snatched the test tube out of my hand and grabbed under Nue's face. "Tayuya, what are you doing?" I demanded. She ignored me. "Hurry up and remember. We don't have all day here." She said, tilting the test tube to Nue's mouth.
"What do you think you're doing? We're not supposed to give her the whole thing!" I frowned. But it was too late. Tayuya tilted the bottle towards Nue's mouth, making her drink more of Orochimaru's blood.
When the test tube was empty, Tayuya threw it to the side. Nue began to pant heavily as her eyes glowed brighter. Her body shook for a second until she froze and looked towards the sky, her eyes glowing a bright purple. "Now look what you did." Jirobo said.
"Shut up! Come on, you damn freak! Hurry up and remember!" Tayuya said, impatiently. "You idiot! The girl has amnesia! It'll take time for her to remember! But now that you've given her all of the blood, who knows what's gonna happen to her!" I snapped.
The four of us looked at Nue as she sat there with her glowing, purple eyes.
Nue's POV (Still Flashback)
"She looks so beautiful, Orochimaru-sama. Can I keep her?" Megumi asked as she held me up in the air by the front of my shirt. I glanced at her with a glare. "Of course you can keep her, Megumi. As soon as I find what's in her that makes her strong, she's all yours." Orochimaru said.
"Go to hell." I grumbled. I swung my leg up, kicking Megumi under her chin while doing a backflip as I got out of her hold. "Damn you!" Megumi yelled at me while rubbing her chin with the back of her hand.
I ran away from them to hide. I just needed enough time to think of a plan. I hid behind a building. My back slid down the wall until I was sitting down, panting lightly as my eyes were closed. "Would you like to make that wish now, Nue?"
I looked in front of me and saw the same yin yang wolf. "Hey, listen. If I ever get captured by this bastard, I want you to do something for me." I said. "Of course." The wolf pup said. "I want to stay who I am. I never want to change this side of me so I can keep fighting... for my people. Make sure that happens, okay?" I said.
A twig snapped nearby. "They're close." I murmured. "Remember that wish, Nue. Remember it, and it will be granted." The wolf pup said before disappearing. I stood to my feet and heard cries coming from inside my clan. I ran inside my clan to save my people.
(End of Flashback)
"I remember now. The reason I survived, why I'm here." I muttered to myself. My wish... has now been fulfilled. "It's about time." Sakon said with a smirk. I looked at him and narrowed my eyes before standing to my feet.
"Do you remember who you are now, Nue Houjuu?" Sakon asked, still smirking. "I do." I confirmed. "Now, are you going to come with us willingly or will we have to take you by force?" Sakon said as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"I'll let you decide on that." I said as I got in a fighting stance. Sakon sighed. "Looks like we'll be doing this the hard way." He said. Him and the rest of Sound Four ran at me. I leaped up in the air as they stopped before they could run into each other.
I dashed towards them and punched the ground hard, making a crater. All four of them either fell back or did a backflip. I stood to my feet and glared at them. "Get her!" Sakon ordered. They all charged at me again.
I glanced at all of them before quickly doing some hand signs. "Fire Style: Eternal Dragon Dance!" Fire surrounded me, preventing Sound Four to come any closer. You could say this is one of my favorite jutsus because I can control the fire.
I waved my arm and made the flames dash towards Sound Four. I smirked as the flames engulfed them. I stopped the jutsu to see my progress. But instead of seeing bodies, I saw a pile of logs. "They escaped." I said, frowning.
But where did they go? I walked away, heading back to my apartment. "Hey, Nue-chan!" Naruto said as he ran up to me. "There you are. I've been looking everywhere for you." He said. I didn't respond as I stared at him with a frown.
"Hey, is that blood on your face?" Naruto asked. He went to touch the corner of my mouth until I grabbed his wrist. "Nue-chan?" He said, confused. "Don't touch me." I said, coldly as I let go of his wrist. I walked past him.
I jumped to the roof of my apartment and lied down on my back. "I remember everything now." I murmured to myself. I closed my eyes, taking a nap.
A few hours later, my eyes opened when I sensed Sasuke's chakra. It was dark out, so what was he doing? I jumped off the roof and to where Sasuke's chakra was. I slowed down when I spotted Sakura lying on a bench.
I stopped and checked her pulse. "She's alive. Just knocked out." I said to myself before running forward. I stopped and looked around. "Where is he?" I demanded. "You shouldn't have followed me, Nue." Sasuke said from behind me.
I moved my eyes to the side, looking behind me. "Sasuke, you can't go with them. I know why you're doing this, but think for a second. What will killing Itachi accomplish? What will you gain from it?" I asked.
"What would you know about it?! You don't know anything about me!" Sasuke snapped.
"Remember that night when we fought Aiko? When she scratched you? I tasted your blood when it landed on my cheek. I got a bit of your memories and I saw what Itachi did to your people, to your parents. I understand what you went through, but think about it. Itachi is the only family you have left. If you kill him, you'll have nothing." I explained.
"You're wrong. I will have something. I will have vengeance. Why do you even care?" Sasuke demanded with a frown. "Because as much as I hate humans, I hate it when their own flesh and blood is out to kill them." I answered.
I closed my eyes for moment. "I'm not letting you get away. I can't allow you to leave with them." I said as I opened my eyes. I turned around and pounced at Sasuke.
But he threw a kunai knife with a paper bomb on it right at my eye. When the knife hit my eye, the paper bomb went off, destroying part of my head. I fell to the ground, landing on my back.
"I didn't tell you yet, did I? I'll admit that you're strong, Nue. But unfortunately, you're not strong enough. Maybe when you get the chance to fight me again, we'll have a battle. Goodbye, Nue." I heard Sasuke say. They left, leaving me on the ground.
Memories of me and Squad 7 went through my mind. But that wasn't me. That girl wasn't really me. So, why do I feel like crying? Because I liked my team? Because I enjoyed being with them, spending time with them? A single tear escaped my eye as it rolled down the side of my head.
I sat up and waited patiently for my head to heal. As it got darker, the destroyed part of my head was almost completely healed, except my eye was missing as it was taking a little longer to heal. I took off my cloak and began tearing it apart.
Yin Yang's POV
Before Nue's amnesia, she made a wish. She wanted stay her true self, never wanting to change who she is. I granted it. However, it's time to reach for the next one. The memories that Nue had lost have finally returned to her. "Now, Nue... about that wish." I quietly called to her.
She took the part of her cloak that she tore off and wrapped it around her eye. Blood ran down her cheek from that eye, as if she were crying. By morning, her eye will be healed. It was clear Nue was angry because her other eye was glowing.
I watched as Nue stood up and went back to her room. She collected her weapons, making sure she didn't wake up Iri or Maria. Once she had collected her weapons, she put them in a scroll to make it easier for her to carry. Nue then left her house, but stopped.
She looked at her cloak with a frown. "I'm done hiding." She said out loud. Nue took off her cloak and let it fall to the ground.
Nue's POV
I walked away with my katana in hand. I got a few steps until the blade of the katana broke off. I tossed the handle aside and began to jog forward. I know what you're thinking. Am I leaving the village? Yes.
But first things first; I have to chase down Sasuke. My plan is to chase down Sound Four, kill them, then kill Sasuke.
Unknown POV
I watched as Nue ran out of the village, looking serious about her task. "Welcome back... Nue." I whispered with a soft smile. I've been watching you for a long time, my dear, and now, you finally remember. I'm so glad.
