Chapter 14: The Bell Test Pt. 1
Nue's POV
"He's late!" Naruto said, looking left and right down the hallway. "I'm bored!" Kiyoshi whined. "Then, do something." I told him. "But there'sss nothing to do in here!" He complained. I sighed. It is pretty boring in here. What can we do while we wait?
I reached into my pocket and pulled out a bag of Kiyoshi's treats. They were just berries that Sharon had stuffed in my suitcase. "Here. Snack on these until our jonin teacher gets here." I said, putting some in front of him.
"Fine by me." He said as he was already starting to munch on them. I smiled at him. My greedy old snake. "Hey! What are you doing?" I heard Sakura say. I looked up and saw Naruto standing on top of a desk, placing an eraser between the door and the wall.
"That's what he gets for being late." Naruto said as he jumped down from the desk. "Ooh. Now thisss'll be entertaining." Kiyoshi said with excitement. "I don't think our sensei's going to fall for a cheap trick like that." I said.
"You can never be ssssure." Kiyoshi hissed. I put Kiyoshi's treats back in my pocket since he was done eating them. I saw a hand on the door and our sensei came in. Unfortunately, the eraser actually did fall on his head when he walked in.
I sweat dropped. And this guy's a jonin? "Ha! I totally got him!" Naruto said, laughing. "I'm sorry, sensei. I told him not to do it." Sakura apologized. "And yet deep down, sssshe wanted it to happen." Kiyoshi said.
I took a look at our sensei. He had gray, gravity-defying hair and wore his headband over his left eye. He also wore a mask and a jonin vest. Wait a minute, have I seen him somewhere before? "Well, my first impression of this group... is you're all a bunch of idiots." He said.
Everyone went gloomy as I stayed silent and Kiyoshi laughed. "OK. Everyone meet me on the roof." He said and disappeared to the roof. I did the same. "Hmm. That was fast." Kakashi said once he saw me. I stared at him.
"Um... Is there something wrong?" He asked. I didn't answer as I continued to stare at him. I gasped. "You're the guy who helped me to my apartment!" I said, happily, pointing at him. I think his name was Kakashi.
He cocked his head to the side before straightening up. "Oh, now I remember you. Nue, was it?" He said. I nodded my head. "Well, Nue. It's nice to see you again." He said smiling. Or at least I think he was smiling.
It was hard to tell because he had that mask over his mouth and nose. I smiled back. A moment later, Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke came in. We all sat down on the steps. I sat next to Naruto. "Why don't you start by introducing yourselves?" Kakashi-sensei suggested.
"Introduce ourselves?" Naruto repeated. "You know. Things you like. Things you hate. Hobbies. Dreams for the future. Stuff like that." Kakashi-sensei said as he crossed his arms. He sounded a little bored when he said that, if you ask me.
"Well, why don't you go first so we know how it goes?" Naruto suggested. Kakashi nodded and went first. But all we really heard was his name. Everything else he left blank. Then, Naruto went first.
"I'm Naruto Uzumaki! I like ramen and my hobbies are taking different kinds of ramen and comparing them. I dislike having to wait for the water to heat for when you have to pour it," Is ramen all he ever talks about?
"And my dream for the future," He continued. "Is to be the greatest Hokage! So then everyone will stop disrespecting me and start treating me like I'm somebody." He finished. 'Aww' I thought. "I'm sure you'll be a great Hokage, Naruto!" I said, hugging him.
Naruto's face went red and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly with a grin. "All right, next one." Kakashi said. "Hi, I'm Sakura Haruno! What I like is.... err, I mean the person I like is...." She glanced over at Sasuke, making me roll my eyes.
Stupid fangirl. "My hobbies are... um... my dream for the future is..." She began to squeal. "Okay. What're your dislikes?" Kakashi asked. "Naruto and Nue!" She screamed. I rolled my eyes and Naruto anime cried. I didn't care if she hated me.
I mean, we already have a rocky relationship. "Love hurts." Kakashi said. "You can say that again." I muttered, petting Naruto's head. "All right. Next one." He said, looking at Sasuke. "Uh-oh. Thisss hasss to be good." Kiyoshi hissed sarcastically.
I giggled and petted his head. "My name is Sasuke Uchiha. I hate a lot of things and I don't particularly like anything," He said. Sakura looked disappointed. I rolled my eyes at her. 'Get over yourself, Pinky' I thought.
"What I have is not a dream because I will make it a reality. I'm going to restore my clan and destroy a certain someone." He finished. Everyone was silent. "What a nuisssance." Kiyoshi hissed in annoyance.
"Kiyoshi, that's not nice to say." I whispered to him. "All right. Last one." Kakashi said as he pointed at me. "My name is Nue Houjuu Satori. I like sweets, animals, snakes. Actually, I love snakes, I also like Naruto. I dislike Sakura, Sasuke, animal or child abuse, and people who like you for your looks and not for who you are. My hobbies are scaring people and training with Maria. Maria is my maid, by the way," I informed Kakashi.
He nodded and let me continue. "And my dream for the future," I stopped to think. "Is to know what I am." I finished. That sentence had a bit of sadness to it. But I didn't want anyone else to know that, so I put on a fake smile and pretended everything was fine to play it off.
Everyone stared at me. Even Kiyoshi stared at me. "Uh, Nue-chan, what did you mean by knowing what you are?" Naruto asked. "It's a long story." I said, rubbing the back of my head. Kakashi coughed.
"All right. You're all unique in your own way. Tomorrow, we'll be having a survival exercise." he explained. "A survival exercise?" Naruto and I repeated at the same time. "Yes, meet me at the training grounds at 6:00 A.M. tomorrow. Oh, and don't eat breakfast or you'll puke." He said, smiling.
I raised an eyebrow. What does he mean by that? "All right. Dismissed." He said, and with that, he disappeared in a puff of smoke. I yawned and walked back to my apartment.
"Welcome home, Nue-sama!" Maria greeted as I entered the kitchen. "Hey, Babe! Missss me!" Kiyoshi said. "You know she can't understand you, right?" I said as he slithered off my arm. He stuck his tongue at me.
I shook my head and walked over to Maria. "What are you making?" I asked her. "My secret soup." she answered, smiling. "What makes it a secret?" I asked. Maria held a finger to her lips with a smile. "It wouldn't be my secret soup anymore if I told you, now would it?" She said.
"It smells delicious. May I help?" I asked her. "Sure!" She said, smiling. I grabbed a wooden spoon and help stir the ingredients. Maria took a spoon and tasted it. "Hmm," She hummed, resting her hand on her chin. "What is it?" I questioned.
"It's perfect!" Maria said with stars in her eyes. I grabbed a small bowl and poured some soup into it. "Kiyoshi, dinner!" I called. He slithered into the kitchen and I set the bowl in front of him. "Where were you anyway?" I asked.
"Watching a sssstupid Uchiha." he said. I raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"Come again?"
"Jussst look out the kitchen window."
I walked over to the window and looked around. "Is something wrong, Nue-sama?" Maria asked as she walked over to where I was at. I looked outside and saw Sasuke going into the Uchiha compound. I face palmed.
"Great, the Uchiha lives close by." I said. "Shall I dispose of him, Nue-sama?" She asked. "No, no. No need for that. I don't have a reason to have him disposed of." I said, quickly. "Very well," She bowed her head. "Let's have some soup." She said, smiling.

After dinner, I helped Maria wash the dishes. "Oh, by the way, are you all settled in your room?" I asked. "Yes," Maria smiled. "Why?" She asked. "Because mi casa es su casa." I said. She hugged me tightly. "You're so cute!" She squealed.
Maria let go of me and patted my head. "When did you learn to sssspeak SSSSpanish?" Kiyoshi asked. I shrugged my shoulders. "It's kind of an easy language." I stated, and turned back to Maria. "I'm going to bed." I informed her.
"Very well, Nue-sama. Goodnight." She said with a bow. I nodded and went to the bathroom to take a quick shower. After my shower, I went over to my dresser and took my sleeping pills before climbing into bed. "Goodnight, Kiyoshi." I said as I wrapped my wings and tails around me.
He didn't respond because he was fast asleep. I closed my eyes, going to sleep. Only problem was; I couldn't fall asleep. I sat up and looked at my clock, reading 3:15 A.M. I sighed, got out of bed, heading to my roof. I sat down and gazed at the stars.
It was a cool night tonight and the soft breeze felt nice against my skin. I stayed up there for a few more hours until it was time for me to go. I took a quick shower and got dressed in all black clothing. I quietly picked up Kiyoshi, who was still sleeping, and wrapped him around my arm.
I tip-toed to the door, being careful not to wake up Maria. I wrapped my wings and tails around me and pulled on my black cloak. Sometimes, I wondered if this symbol on the back of the cloak meant something.
Well, I don't think I'll be able to figure it out. I closed and locked the door before walking to the training grounds. I was the first one there, so I sat down and waited. I lied back on the grass and stared at the stars, closing my eyes as I enjoyed the soft breeze.
But eventually, I fell asleep. "Hey, you're late!" I opened my eyes, seeing Naruto and Sakura yelling at Kakashi-sensei. I yawned. "Morning, Nue-chan!" Naruto greeted. "Morning." I replied. "What the hell am I doing here?!" Kiyoshi panicked.
"It's all right, Kiyoshi. You're with me." I said, smoothing his back to calm him down. "You could've woken me up, y'know? But sssssince there'sss no harm done, I forgive you." He said. "Thanks, Snakey." I joked. Kiyoshi hissed and tried to bite me.
"Hey, I was only playing." I objected. "Keep playing like that and I'll poisssson you." He threatened. "But I was only playing around, Kiyoshi." I repeated. "Hmph." He turned his head with a frown. "You're mean, Kiyoshi." I whined.
I began to anime cry until Kiyoshi slithered around my neck and pecked my cheek. "Don't cry, kid." He hissed. I giggled and petted him before glancing back and noticing Sasuke staring at me. "Can I help you with something, Uchiha?" I demanded.
He stared at me for a minute. "No." He said, finally. "Then, stop staring at me!" I snapped. I turned away from him and turned my attention towards Kakashi-sensei. "All you have to do is get these bells from me before lunch. You have until noon." Kakashi-sensei explained as he held up three bells.
"How come there's only three bells?" I asked. "Because whoever doesn't get a bell, will be tied to that post." He said as he pointed to a post. Make sense... I guess? We all took our stances. Naruto tried attacking Kakashi, but he intercepted and held the back of Naruto's head with a kunai knife aimed at him.
"I didn't say go yet." Kakashi-sensei said. He let go of him and Naruto walked back over to us. "Don't worry, Naruto. I'm sure you'll try your best." I said with a smile, trying to cheer him up. He smiled back. "Thanks, Nue-chan." He said.
"Ready.... START!" Kakashi announced. We all ran and hid.
I hid inside a bush. Naruto, being the crazy person he is, stood in front of Kakashi and began fighting him. 'If we're going to get those bells, we'll need to work as a team' I thought. But how can I? Sakura's annoying, Naruto will want to do this himself, and Sasuke's just... emo, so forget him.
I sighed and saw Naruto upside down with a rope tied around his ankle. I made sure the coast was clear before going over to him. I cut him down and caught him bridal style. "Naruto, you wanna work together to get the bells?" I asked as I set him down on his feet.
"Sorry, Nue-chan, but if I'm going to be Hokage, I'm going to have to do this on my own. See ya." With that, he left. I sighed and tried for Sakura. I found her by a tree. "Sakura, you wanna work together to get the bells?" I asked.
"Why would I wanna work with you?" She asked. "Because the whole point of this exercise is tea-"
"I have to find Sasuke. Move!" Sakura cut me off and shoved me out of the way. I fell to the ground and watched her run in a different direction. I frowned, got up, and brushed myself off. Sighing, I began to walk the opposite direction.
"Don't be ssssad, Nue." Kiyoshi said. "I'm not sad. Just disappointed. How am I supposed to work with these guys if all they're interested in is themselves?" I asked. I walked to an empty field and fell on my back with my arms spread out.
Kiyoshi slithered off my arm and rested himself on my chest. "Come on, Nue. I'm ssssure you can get thossse bellsss all on your own. You don't need them." Kiyoshi said. "You really think so?" I asked, staring up at the sky.
"Of courssse. I believe in you." He hissed. "I guess I could try." I said with a yawn. I blinked before looking up at the sky. "The sky looks pretty bright today." I said, quietly. I felt like taking a nap right now. "Is everything okay, Nue?" I tilted my head back.
Everything was upside down as I spotted Kakashi-sensei, who was also upside down. "Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry about me," I sat up. "I get the point of this exercise, Sensei. Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke and I are supposed to work as a team in order to get those bells from you." I stated.
"Finally! One of you got the point of this exercise!" He cheered. I giggled slightly. "Ne, Kakashi-sensei. What do you say we have a fight?" I suggested. "Just what I was thinking." He said, taking out a kunai. I did the same.
"Let's see what you got." Kakashi challenged. "Bring it on, Sensei." We charged at each other and our weapons clashed.
