[Vol. 5] Chapter 125
(Third person's POV- omniscient)
Princess Rose had started to prepare Kairo as she hummed a merry tune. It was so sweet as Kairo asked, "If you don't mind me asking, Princess Rose, what is the song you are singing?"
She smiled sweetly and said, "It is a song from my country. We often sing it when we go somewhere far..."
He nodded, "What's the song...?"
"Coming back home." She said. "It was a song for our patriots."
Kairo nodded as he was sitting on the stool while Princess Rose tied up his hair. His brothers were outside, keeping in check that everything was in order.
And he felt nervous.
Why wouldn't he?
He had never gotten married before...
He couldn't help but ask, "Umm... Princess Rose, if you don't mind me for an...an unusual request, can you sing the song for me?"
Princess Rose was quite shocked and chuckled. "Why? You are not going anywhere..."
But he was very nervous... He was scared of being made fun of and as well as he didn't know what to do after getting married...
Just what would he do with that venomous girl?
He was considering his options and choices by now. Could he tie her with ropes until he come back from his work?
Or maybe lock her in his room?
Did she even know how how to make food other than poison...?
Or maybe he would have to eat and drink poison everyday...
Rose started to sing in her language and it sounded amazing but he couldn't really understand. He asked, "What does this mean?"
Princess Rose said, "Come back when you are tired and know that you always have a place you belong."
He nodded at the beautiful meaning of the song.
As she was singing, she was also focused on the groom's ornaments and suddenly she hissed in pain. Kairo's head snapped at her. She had stopped singing and an ornament was in her hand, hanging. It seemed to be the head ornament he was about to wear.
A white substance had come out from one of its stones and burnt her fingers as she threw the ornaments away and moaned in pain.
Hans, Koji and Takagashi came hurriedly after hearing Princess Rose's hiss.
Kairo went toward the ornaments and saw, in its stones, a kind of liquid had been poured. No doubt, it was a poison to kill him. If he had worn it, he would have just burnt himself once the stones break.
Hans and others immediately tended her wounds and asked worriedly, "Are you alright, Princess Rose?"
She nodded and smiled even when she looked like she was in a lot of pain. And suddenly she sat on the floor as if her feet lost their balance. They all became worried as anger boiled in Kairo's stomach.
He had enough of this.
If they just wanted to kill him, they could have just done that but they were trying to harm his people. His brothers, his master and the close people of them.
He didn't need to know that the Toushi clan just came to kill them all.
And he would never let anyone harm his home.
He took the ornament even when his hand burnt and started to go toward the exit.
He would kill that girl by his hands!
Then he would just kill her father!
Hans tried to stop him as Kairo growled, but it was like a calm and cold anger Hans felt from Kairo.
"Kairo, where are you going?" Koji asked.
"To the bride's chamber." He said but he didn't look back as he left his chamber.
Koji knew Kairo was the most angry and calculative person. Even Koji was angry that the Toushi clan was posing a threat. If the ornaments had poisons in it that means they were here to kill them. So, he didn't stop him.
Because they weren't sure if that lady was involved with them or not. But it was unlikely that she wasn't involved.
On the other hand, Lady Hana was blushing as the maids made her up. The red dress looked beautiful on her. She had never dressed up like this and her heart fluttered at the thought of how her husband would react after seeing her.
All her life she was only trained under the cave of the mountains rigorously and learnt only about poisons and plants mostly to kill people. She knew how to save them but mostly her father made do it to kill people.
She didn't really cared as long as her father was happy but now she would make her husband happy. She grinned in herself as she looked at the mirror.
In her clan, nobody would talk to her as she was the daughter of Lord Gokudo. They would always be wary of her and never got near but she knew her clan rituals that she learnt from sneaking out.
She saw every woman would follow their husbands blindly. She had always wondered what it was like to have a partner.
She heard they love each other...
What was love and how it looked like she had no idea but maybe once she got a husband she would know...
And it made her excited.
Her heart fluttered and she heard someone entering the bridal chamber.
She looked through the mirror and gasped in shock that it was her husband. Her cheeks turned red as she looked away.
With long strides, Kairo reached Lady Hana's chamber and ordered the maids, "Leave us. Now."
His voice was cold but Hana didn't notice the anger in it.
Her face burnt in heat and her mind was swaying with the thoughts of her marriage. They weren't supposed to see each other before marriage but why was he here?
Was he going to say anything? Maybe love her?
Her heart fluttered as she had envisioned her married would be magical.
She had seen only darkness up until then or would get confined in her room to learn things but now...
She would get to see the light. She would see the sun and she would feel the freshness of the air. She wouldn't have to see the dampness of the forest anymore or the cave's darkness that always made her lonely and scared.
He came near as she looked down. She didn't know what to say or how to act before her groom.
"You! How dare you try to kill me?!" He said and Hana's head went blank. Her feet froze and as she wondered if she heard him wrong.
What! Kill him? Why would she want to kill him? He was her husband!
She looked up and that was when she found that he wasn't looking at her with a look of admiration but it was a look of anger.
Her heart sank. She asked, "What do you mean?"
He threw an ornament at her feet and a white liquid came out. She was shocked to find that it was a chemical she had found while experimenting. How did he get that?
Her mind couldn't gather the information around her anymore as she looked at the liquid and then her eyes went to her husband's hand. It had burnt him.
Guilt and sadness devoured her heart that the poison she had invented to kill others in a second ended up hurting her husband instead.
She looked up at him as he said, "Did you invite your clan members to kill me and my whole people?!"
Her clan members were here?
She didn't know they were going to come.
She looked at him with a confused face. She asked, "Why would they come here?"
Kairo laughed mockingly, betrayal and anger mixed on his face, "Don't act like you didn't know this! Your father asked your clan members to come here!"
Her eyes went wide out of fear. Because she knew her clan members wouldn't go out of the mountain and more than that both his father and her were exiled from Toushi clan.
She didn't know the reason but she knew her father had done something. She was just too small to remember anything.
She said, "But we don't have any clan members..."
Kairo asked with a socked face, "What do you mean by that?"
She said, "We were exiled from the mountains long ago and after that I had been living with father in that house."
Kairo was now in his own thoughts. If they were exiled then who were those members...
He looked at Hana with a suspicious gaze he said, "Then you and your father just wanted to end us so you made this act!"
Hana shook her head, "I would never do to my husband!"
Kairo's anger intensified tenfold as he harshly grabbed her neck and squished, "Don't you dare call me your husband. I'd rather die than be your husband."
And it broke her heart. It shattered all her dreams of becoming a bride and have her partner because she knew they hated her. He hated her.
Because she was a killer.
Everywhere Hana went, all they did was run away from her. Even when she didn't want to harm them and she had always ended up being alone in her room with only poisons.
Maybe it was her fate to be with only poison... because poison would kill everyone around her. Even her closed ones.
She wanted to laugh. She never really had a close one other than her father who even used her poison to kill her husband.
He even shattered her dream to get married with someone.
What a laughable life she had...
She said somehow squishing out a word, "Wa...ter."
Kairo loosened his grip on her neck as she coughed and said, "It will dissolve in water."
Kairo asked, "What?"
Hana's shoulders slumped down as she said, "The poison will dissolve in water. Pour youself water, you will be fine."
As Kairo pulled away his hand, Hana's necklace got tangled with his wrist and two of the stones broke into pieces. The while liquid started to pour, burning Hana's upper chest along with the cloth.
Kairo immediately took the jar and poured the water on her and the liquid instantly dissolved into the water. However, her bridal clothes got ruined and her skin got burns.
But she didn't even flinched. Poison never harmed her anyways.
She only looked downward, her eyes getting emotionless like a dead fish as she didn't wish or dream of anything anymore.
Whenever she dreamt of something good, all she got was disappointed of being so hopeful.
As the bridal cloth around her shoulders loosened, Kairo saw that her chest and shoulders had a lot of old burns already.
No wonder she didn't even hiss. Because she was accustomed to getting burnt with poisons.
She said, her voice cold and devoid of emotions, "Let me see my father... Just once."
Kairo nodded, "Alright."
Hana's face maybe was devoid of emotions but her stomach burnt with her anger.
The Toushis had a single rule: Kill anyone who tried to harm your partner.
As Hana started to walk, her face became dark because even when her husband wouldn't want to marry her anymore, she had already accepted him as her husband and she would kill anyone if they would ever try to pose a threat.
Even if her husband hated her, she would kill her father for him because she was a Toushi.
