5- 👻First Step👻
Drishti's Mom had prepared all her favorite dishes in order to cheer her up.
Obviously, she realized how sad Drishti must have been upon losing her bestfriend and wanted to cheer her up but what her Mom didn't know was that I was right here, beside her daughter.
Looking at the delicious food, my non-existent heart ached. Dishes looked mouthwatering but I could just look.
"ISHAN ISHAN. Come down, food is getting colder," Drishti's dad called out to her 16 year old brother.
I went to look for him when he didn't come down even after everyone in their family had yelled out his name for more than 5 times.
Aunt was losing her patience and surely Ishan was going to get the brunt of her anger if he didn't came down this instant.
Entering his room, I saw him watching something with his headphones on. No wonder he didn't hear anyone.
He was so going to get scolded. Not only he was late for dinner but he was also using Uncle's laptop without his permission.
I moved further inside his room to see what he was watching with so much interest.
Sitting beside him, I turned my face towards the laptop, only to get scared out of my mind.
Feeling glad that I didn't have a heart now, I left his room.
Idiot, was watching a horror flim. The moment I turned to face the laptop, a half bloodied, scary ghost with a creepy smile crept flashed on the screen. I would have surely gotten a heart attack if I was alive.
Here, Drishti was making my heart ache with the delicious food and her brother was hell bent on giving me a heart attack.
Shaking my head, I decided to just wait in Drishti's room for her to come back after dinner.
I was sitting on the bed making a sulk face when Drishti came back after having dinner.
"Dinner was so yummy. I ate more than my usual fill," she said patting her stomach happily.
"There's no need to rub it on my face," I sulked even more.
"Why are you frowning? No one would have stopped you from eating dinner," she asked and came to sit beside me on the bed.
I just stared at her in response.
"Oops, I forget that things go past you and you aren't able to touch anything," she said sheepishly after seeing my look.
"Let's change the topic. Talking about food is making me feel more sad. By the way, why the hell Ishan was watching such a gruesome movie? How can your younger brother enjoy watching creepy ghosts?" I asked with a shudder.
It was her time to stare at me.
"You are a ghost," she stated simply, expecting me to understand.
"So?" I prodded with raised eyebrows.
"How can you be scared of fictional ghosts when you are a ghost yourself?" She asked in a tone like she couldn't just believe it.
"Why? You are a human. Does that mean you never feared another human being?" I questioned with triumphant smile.
"I have...," she trailed off her answer, looking defeated.
"Don't have different standards just because I am a ghost. Plus have you seen that creepy ghosts, I look way better than them. Yuck!" I said, making a face at the human's perception of ghosts.
"Look at you. Even after dying, your attitude hasn't diminished. You seriously deserve an standing ovation," Drishti taunted and actually stood up to clap.
"I will take that as an compliment," I countered cheekily.
A chuckle escaped her lips as she sat back on the bed.
"Now let's get serious. How are we going to find the murderer? The only lead we have is half digits of the mobile number which had messaged you," Drishti wondered thoughtfully.
"Yeah. We don't even have any authority with which we could get a list of people whose mobile number starts with these numbers," I spoke sadly.
"Even if we manage to get the list which we obviously won't get but even if we did, how are we going to find the murderer among those thousands of people whose first five digits of mobile number match with that unknown number?" Drishti clutched her hands in frustration.
"This is a dead end. I have no idea on what should we do but we have to start from somewhere," I replied, thinking what could we do.
We both mulled over the ideas in silence.
Suddenly, Drishti's face glowed like a light bulb and she hurriedly went towards her shelf and brought back a diary and a pen.
I raised an eyebrow in question.
"The message stated your morning fight. Let's start listing out people who knew about the fight," Drishti explained, with a hopeful smile.
Nodding, I gave her a big smile, liking her plan of action. Even if this was a small step, we were moving forward.
We had taken our first step towards finding the murderer.
