27-👻Car👻

I stared at the ceiling fan while laying down on Drishti's bed. She forgot to switch it off and I couldn't do it, even if I tried.

Even though my gaze was at the fan, my mind kept giving me a slideshow of memories of that unfortunate day. The fights, my lack of concentration for dancing and the hope of reconciliation when I read the message.

I was busy with my thoughts when Drishti's mom opened the room's door.

"Drishti come down. The number plate of our car finally came," she called her out but stopped short upon seeing the empty room.

"What should I do about my children? No one informs before leaving the house and look at this girl, kept the fan working. Who cares if the electricity bill goes up? Mom and dad are here to pay so let's be careless," muttering out the frustration to herself, Drishti's mom left the room after switching off the fan.

Poor Drishti. She was going to receive a hell lot of scoldings, the moment she returned. But what was her mom talking about? Car? Drishti never told me anything about it.

Curious about the situation, I went outside to see the new car.

Instead of the expected happiness, Drishti's parents were grumbling.

"These kids. We didn't even get the number plate yet they took out the car outside, without our permission," Drishti's dad spoke, running his hand through his hair.

His eyes kept darting towards the dirtied tyres, looking on the verge of crying.

"They should have atleast cleaned the car after use," Drishti's mother spoke through clenched teeth.

While Drishti's parents were embarrassed, the employee who brought the number plate looked highly amused. He was intelligent enough to keep quiet, not aggravating the situation further.

"Look not only your children drived, they also spilled paints on the car. See the dried blue paint on the back tyres and there's some brownish red paint too near the trunk of the car," Drishti's dad frowned.

"My children? They are your children too. Now stop grumbling and open the trunk and see if they got the paint inside too. Don't know how much it will cost to clean all this," Drishti's mom retaliated.

Drishti's dad nodded and hurriedly opened the trunk.

"Did our children think that just because number plate was late, it would never come. How could they use the trunk of a new car as storage? I think both the children are involved. Paint must be of Ishan's and these other items are the one's Drishti used during her school," Drishti's dad muttered while looking what was inside.

"Yeah, looks like they put everything in there. Ishan's paint must have leaked and ruined everything. Look everything is coated in brown paint," Drishti's mom said, as she came to stand beside her husband and see the condition of trunk.

A chuckle left my lips seeing all this and I went back to Drishti's room, waiting for her.

~~~•~~~
It wasn't long before Drishti arrived. It must have been her luck that Uncle and Aunt didn't notice her and she was able to directly come inside her room.
I waited for her to start informing me about what happened with folded hands.
"So what's the verdict?" I asked with raised eyebrows.
She showed me her palm to indicate me to wait and went on to swtich on the fan and plopped down on the bed.
"I checked with both Aman and your parents but wasn't able to find the unknown number. And from Aman's mother I got to know that they were together at home, packing clothes and consoling his dad for the whole night. I was little disappointed but I didn't lose my courage and went to the address you gave me.
"Hello Uncle. I am Maira's best friend. Her parents told me to come here as Aunty lost her wedding ring, when they came here for the party. You know because of Maira's death, they couldn't come, so they told me to come here," I spoke with a sweet innocent smile.
"Oh yes! I got their message. Please come in. The house was already cleaned but we should still search for it," Uncle said, ushering me inside.
What he didn't know was that I had send him the message from your dad's phone when I took it to check if he had another sim.
Thus I got entry and while acting to search for the ring, we talked a lot and while talking I got to know that your mom, dad were at the party and left when they got a call from the police about your accident," Drishti explained.
"So all of them are clear?" I asked.
"No. Not at all. You know the party your parents attended was a huge one. They must have left the party, done the deed and came back like nothing happened. It's not like the police found your body immediately," Drishti gave out another theory.
"Wow, Just wow," I made a show of clapping slowly.
"Looking at your skills, you should have become a writer instead of a dancer," I said walking slowly towards her.
"Wh...what are you talking about?" Drishti asked nervously.
I kept walking further and she kept moving backwards.
"What's gotten into you?" She screamed when she got halted in her step because of the wall.
Moving extremely close to her face, I answered her question.
"Car," I whispered with an evil smirk.
One single word and it was enough for her to know that I knew. I knew everything now.
