So this is a pretty famous murder case. And it is famous for a very sick reason too. The extent of brutality by which the murder was committed makes this case so widely known.

We will look into every case section by section.

So let's get into this.

DISCOVERY OF THE BODY

Betty Bersinger along with her three year old daughter were on their way to get their shoe repaired.
As they were walking along the lonely street of Los Angeles, Betty saw something white in the sidewalk from the corner of her eye.

From afar it looked like a broken mannequin which had been abandoned by some shopkeeper.

But upon closer inspection she realised that the mannequin was indeed a naked woman who had been brutally slaughtered in half.

She ran to the nearby house to call the police to report the horrible scene she saw.

Two police officers arrived to confirm Betty's claim and called for backup.

But the media had apparently been ahead of the cops.

The crime scene was bustling with reporters and locals. After the cops arrived they cleared the crowd out of there and began there investigation.

My comments : Well, I only have two things to say. First the reporters were hella irresponsible. They probably destroyed several evidences.
Second, I didn't mention it before but Betty and her daughter resumed there trip to the cobbler. Like if I saw a lady chopped up like that, I'll probably stay locked up inside my house for several months.
Also, my condolences are with that three year old girl for what she had to witness.

So moving on.

CONDITION OF THE CORPSE AT THE TIME OF DISCOVERY

You probably would want to skip this, because this is where it gets grisly as hell.

The body discovered by Betty was of Elisabeth Short, a 22 year old young woman, who would later come to be known as the Black Dahlia.

Shorts body was dissected in half. Her lower half of the body was placed at least a foot away from the upper half.

She was "posed" in a sexual way, as her legs were spread apart and her hands were above her head with elbows bent at certain angles.

There were cuts of about 3 inches from each corners of her lips, giving her a Glasgow smile.(Its like the smile of the Joker)

Chunks of flesh were literally scooped out of her body. Her left breast was totally chopped off.

One thing that is to be noted is that the cuts made were very neat, as if it was a professional doing the work.

There were marks on her wrists, neck and ankles, indicating that she was tortured.

What made this even more strange was the fact that the body had been washed and scrubbed clean as there wasn't a single drop of blood on her or on the grass around. This indicates that the murder took place somewhere else.

The killer supposedly drained her of all the blood and then deliberately placed her body on the sidewalk for it to be discovered.

Also, she was devoid of any clothing. Completely nude.

My comments: Uhh...I don't really want to comment anything, because I saw the actual photograph of the severed body at the crime scene as well as when it was in the autopsy. It was not a pretty sight. This might be the second most gory thing I saw.

( I didn't want to add those pictures over here cause it might be very disturbing to a lot of people. But if you want the pictures then comment here, and if I get more than 10 comments with "yes" as an answer, I'll post it.)

There is one thing I have to say though, at first I thought that it might be cannibalism because the type of wounds on Short's body was similar to the Issei Sagawa case.(you can check it up on google) BUT I dismissed this due to a Suspect, about which I'll tell you in the next section.

SUSPECTS

SUSPECT #1 : Robert "Red" Manley

Short was seen alive for the last time when Robert dropped her off at the Biltmore Hotel on January 9 before her body was discovered on January 15.

Robert Manley was the man with whom Short was having an affair with. Robert was a married man and an ex army man who was kicked out of his job due to mental instability. He later died in a mental hospital as he had depressions and used to hear voices.

Even though he was a prime suspect he was dismissed due to his strong alibis.

He even passed several lie detector tests.

Manley even identified Short's possessions, that is a handbag and a shoe which was found in a trashcan which was located near the crime scene.

SUSPECT #2 : George Hodel

Hodel was an American physician. One of the main reasons for him being a suspect was due to the fact that Black Dahlia's wounds and cuts indicated that they were performed by a professional.

Also, there were about eight witnesses to George and Short's relationship.

Moreover the LAPD had bugged Hodel's house and there was a transcript of the recordings which said, " Supposin' I did kill Black Dalhia, they couldn't prove it now. They can't talk to my secretary anymore, because she's dead."

MY CONCLUSION AND THEORY

In my opinion I think the killer is definitely George Hodel.
When he died at the age of 91, his son Steve Hodel who was a former detective gave evidences of his father being the Black Dahlia killer.
There are innumerable evidences but I'll brief you about it and mention note worthy points.

George Hodel worshipped Marquis de Sades, who was a French erotic writer having a taste for sadism.

George was also best friend of Man Ray, a surrealistic artist who had a portrait similar to the corpse of Short. It is said that her murder was a sick attempt of Hodel at art.

Beside these, George was obsessed with incesting. He was accused of rape charges by his own daughter Tamar. He had illegal children with other women too.

He fled the country several times and mysteriously murders occurred wherever he went.
He supposedly killed his secretary too.

Even if he wasn't a murderer, he was definitely an asshole.
I think this is a classic case of bribing the police, which isn't totally unthinkable as Hodel was rich, had influences in the town and also the police in LAPD during that time are reported to have been notorious for accepting bribes.
