Chapter 6: His File

Your POV

It's been a  week since I last had saw the shadow figure, or had a memory from my childhood resurface. I think I've been in the clear and everything should have stopped for good, though there's something that's buzzing in my skull that it isn't over, not quite yet anyway. Putting my money on the counter I was handed the coffee I had ordered before work.

"Keep the change." I said as I turned to walk out of the Death City Café. Being blinded by the desert sun for a moment, I made my way towards the school. Getting up the steps I sipped my coffee and went into my office.  I've  memorized most of the files of all thousand kids in this school, and next year I'll have to learn hundreds more.

Taking my keys from my lab coat pocket, I slid the key into the knob and turned it, unlocking the door. Stepping into the room I removed the key and dropped it back into my pocket before I put my coffee on my desk and went to a filing cabinet. Opening it I pulled a stack of files from the drawer and closed it.

Moving to my desk where I sat down and opened the first one, back to another day of learning files until I had to go and help a student or another staff member. Though the bliss of reading didn't last for long before there was yelling in the hall. Standing slowly I walked out of my office to see a few students that were walking. Walking over to them, i cleared my throat. They stopped and turned to see me, my glasses shining in the light.

"What seems to be the problem here?" I asked as I slid my hands into my lab coat pockets, playing with a scalpel I had in there.

"N-nothing, Dr. Perry!" one boy said while the other one nodded gently.

"Really? You two aren't lying to me now are you? You were making quite the commotion out here." I asked as i tilted my head a little, a gentle smirk showing up on my face.

"Well you see, Dr. Perry. Brandon forgot to take the trash out last night, so I had to this morning and it made it that breakfast ran late and we ended up being a little late today." one said.

Raising a brow i looked between the two boys. "Sounds to me that you two should work on your communication skills, arguing between partners is always less than ideal. It can cause wavelength syncing issues, which in turn, can make resonance difficult, and that can result in wounds or even possibly death."

They gulped and nodded before they ran off towards class. I hummed gently as the bell rang, I turned to walk back into the infirmary, only to run into something. Adjusting my glasses I looked up slowly, only to be greeted with none other than Professor Stein.

"You handled that quite well, Dr. Perry." he said as he loomed over me.

Humming gently I tried to step around him, only for him to move a bit faster and block me. "Professor Stein, if you'd be so kind as to let me into my infirmary, I have work to do." I crossed my arms and looked back up at him again.

"I would have spoken to you in your infirmary, though I was stopped by the sight of you disciplining two students. The very two students that I had been told of a few moments prior to spotting you speaking with them."

Raising a brow I glanced towards the clock as the second bell rang out through the halls. "You're stopping me from doing my job to tell me this why exactly?" I asked. He was up to something, though I couldn't exactly place what. He doesn't seem like the type to stop people from doing their jobs just for small reasons.

"Lord Death has asked me to inform you about the meeting this afternoon after school is dismissed for the day, unless you have reason to believe you'll be too busy with your work." he said as his hands moved from his lab coat pockets to his hips as he pushed the lab coat out of the way.

"Professor Stein." I started a little annoyance in my tone. "I have no intentions on disobeying a meeting from Lord Death, especially one that I trust is mandatory since you've gone out of your way to tell me when an email would have been sufficient." my brows furrowed as I locked eyes with him. My brown ones staring into his emerald ones, that seemed to be enjoying the current interaction. I'll have to read his file later.

He hummed as he looked down at me before he put a hand back into his pockets and walked around me. "See you at the meeting then, Dr. Perry." he said as he walked down the hall and his left hand gave a gentle wave as he walked before it went into his other pocket. Huffing gently I turned and stepped back into my infirmary, going to the filing cabinet that had all of the staff files and flipped through them for his.

Mumbling to myself as I read I thumbed through them some more. "Spirit Albarn, Marie Mijolnir, Mira Naigus... Hmm Franken Stein." Pulling it I closed the drawer and went to my desk once again. Getting into the small office, I sat down with the file in my hand and dug into it.

Weapon Partner: Spirit Albarn (former), Marie Mijolnir (former)

Personality:

While being a man of science, Dr. Stein has seen himself and others as nothing other than environmental test subjects, and this includes himself as well. At a young age he was inclined to dissect those that were around him, but only to be stopped by his young partner, Spirit Albarn. The want to dissect others, had made his peers afraid of him early on. His strange hobby of wanting to dissect anything he thinks is interesting to him or that bothers in him anyway was present, even when he became an adult.

Stein exhibits a sadistic and intimidating personality. During the battle with Maka and BlackStar, he grabbed Maka by her pigtail and lifted her shirt to expose her abdomen, only to draw marks on her body and explain where he would cut her open and experiment on the young girl. He went as far as pondering if he should turn her skin into rough sand paper. When BlackStar had tried to attack him during this, he countered with a bloody and painful manner.

Emotionally Stein has been described as always alone and that he has no love in him. He has stated that he cannot understand why Spirit would have such a strange reaction to his daughter Maka asking him to spend the day shopping with her. Showing that he can't feel deep emotions other than the desire to dissect. This tendency does appear to be more sadistic or psychotic, which explains the dormant madness that he has.

Despite this cruel and twisted personality, Stein does have a kind and compassionate side that worried for his friends and students, and he feels the need to protect them. He also exhibits a rather paternal demeanor towards his students, as well as deep disgust and moral outrage towards Medusa Gorgon for stating that she would abandon her  own child, Crona, when he would become useless to her. It is unknown what triggered this other personality, but it is believed that it arose after Spirit left him since he had lost the only person that had been previously able to tolerate him.

Closing the file I leaned back in my chair and stared at it for a moment. Hearing a knock at the door, I pushed it off of my desk and heard it smack the floor. "Come in!" I said as I got up to look at the door. It opened slowly as the person stepped in. A student had came in to see me before the school day was over, they had ended up getting some bruises while being in a class for a sparring match today.

Checking out the student with a few tests, I gave them some pain meds and ice for the more tender bruises. Hearing the bell ring I sighed gently. Now it was time for the meeting with Lord Death. Leaving the infirmary I walked down the hallway towards the Death Room, as I felt the nagging feeling in the back of my skull getting louder than it had been this morning.

Notice** Stein's middle name isn't actually Victor. I have had it be his middle name on my own because of his inspiration from the book Frankenstein, and the doctor Victor Frankenstein. This is not canon to the anime or the manga.)
