Chapter 2: Odd Co-Workers

???s POV

I was met in the hallway by a female that was close to my age. She was about my height and was rather surprised by my appearance. Understandably, I'm not usually what people expect for a female doctor. She had what looked like to be a neck brace wrapped around her forehead for a sort of headband. She had bandages that went up to just above her nose so only her pale blue eyes were visible. She had her dark hair in dreadlocks and in a ponytail that went through the headband and the sides went underneath it and hung at the sides of her face.

Her entire right arm and neck were wrapped along with her breasts. Her left arm was wrapped from her hand to half way up to her mid bicep. She wore baggy camouflage pants with tan bags on either hip, she wore no shoes and her feet were wrapped as well.

"Hello, I'm Mira Naigus, but you can just call me Naigus. You must be the new doctor, and if you'll follow me I'll lead you to your new office and infirmary." she said and I gave a small nod and she turned before walking away and I followed.

She talked about how the infirmary usually isn't very full unless its for sports physicals or battle injuries. Which wasn't surprising considering this is a sort of battle school. We turned a few corners and we were eventually met with a door that had the word Infirmary at the top. She opened the door and gave me a key for me to use when I get here in the morning. "You may sub for Dr. Stein at times when he is absent since you have an understanding for Biology as he does." She said.

'There's that name again. Dr. Stein. But at least now I have a little more insight on him.'

I gave a nod and she turned to leave before snapping back around and I looked at her slightly. "I never got your name Doctor." she said.

With a straight face and little to no emotion I answered. "It's Dr. Perry." I said.

She gave a nod. "Yes, Dr. Perry. I will leave you to get familiar with your new office and I look forward to working with you." she said.

I gave a nod before turning my attention to other things. I heard the soft click of the door close and I looked at the palm of my pale hand. The key that I had given was one of the very few that I owned. It was a small copper key that looked to be as old as the building was. It was even old fashioned and had a small cross at the end that probably had stood for infirmary or some other medical purpose. At the opposite end there were three spikes similar to the ones on Lord Death's mask. Although they were separate lengths.

I put it in my lab coat pocket and retrieved my lavender music player. I unwound my earbuds from the small device and put them in as my usual rock metal songs played. I looked around and made my way quietly to the first filing cabinet that met my vision and began to sift through it for patient files that I could catch up on.

I was snapped from my thoughts as I felt a hand on my shoulder. Upon instinct I grabbed the hand and with my free one grabbed the person by the throat and slammed them into the wall. My light brown eyes were met with one hazel eye and one with an eye patch. I blinked and slowly let the person go noticing they were female. I removed my earbuds and looked down on them slightly as they were a little shorter than I. She had long blonde hair and a black and yellow dress with white boots.

She looked at me for a second before smiling. "I'm Marie Mjolnir. I'm a teacher here at the DWMA and Lord Death had requested for me to bring you to the lunch room." she said.

I rose a brow and looked at the clock on the wall above the door. It was 11:50 A.M. I looked at the rather tall stack of files on my desk and the small one next to it meaning that I had been reading files for most of the morning since I got here. I looked at the lady again and put my music player away. "If you'll follow me to the lunch room." she said and began to walk out of the room. I followed quickly and turned the lights off and closed the door not finding the need to lock the room because I would be back here soon enough to continue reading.

After a few turns down several hallways we were in the cafe of the building and there was a rather large section for students and a smaller one with only a few tables for staff. I followed Ms. Mjnolnir across the floor in the crowded room where the few people I met earlier today were and others that I had yet to meet. She walked over to Lord Death and announced that she had retrieved me successfully. Lord Death nodded and his hands appeared as he began to clap and get the attention of the staff. They turned to face him and I looked at the floor as I had not wanted to be the center of attention on my first day.

Stein's POV

I was walking into the Cafe as I heard loud clapping that I could only guess was from Lord Death. There were a few students that turned their attention to see what he was going to announce and I stopped to lean on a column that was near me to listen as I puffed on my cigarette.

"She looks kinda like Professor Stein." I heard from one of the students. I glanced up through my silver bangs and at the person that they were referring to. She was tall for her age and had chestnut brown hair and a lab coat similar to mine but the seams weren't stitched, however, there were a few stitched lines here and there. And it was as long as mine.

She had her back to me so I couldn't see her face. But from how she stood she didn't like attention brought to her. She had black pants and sneakers on. Lord Death motioned for her to walk over and she made her first step with her left foot. So that meant she was either left side dominant or there was some sort of club she was in as a teenager or child that made the habit of stepping off with her left foot. She stood next to Lord Death and her face was round and pale.

Her glasses had created a glare that shielded her eyes. She had a slight frown on her lips and wore no make up. She had a black scrub top on and from what I could see a dark grey long sleeve shirt underneath. Lord Death announced her.

"Staff and Students of the DWMA! We have a new staff member joining us today, her name is Anne Perry and she is a doctor in the infirmary! Please treat her with respect and hopefully you won't have to meet her so don't get hurt!" he said.

I gave a chuckle as I began walking over and Lord Death saw me. He dismissed everyone and they started mentioning how she looked similar to me. Naigus and Spirit had approached me earlier this morning and said there was a new staff member that had acted similar to me, and apparently there had been.

Lord Death turned everyone's attention to me as I released the smoke from my lungs and walked quietly over to where he was. I stopped a few feet from where he was with my new co-worker near him. I glanced at her and then back to Lord Death as he began speaking.

"Ah Stein." He said and the new doctor seemed to glance at me and turn her attention to me. "I trust you have made yourself acquainted with our new staff member, Dr. Perry." he said.

"I believe I have not had the chance, Lord Death." I stated. He turned to her and she gave a step or two forward so she was closer to me as she stepped off once again with her left foot. I had extended my hand first and it had shown that she wasn't fond of human interaction such as I. She extended pale hand slowly and I noticed that she had only worn black nail polish as her only use of any kind of cosmetics.

Our hands met and hers was undoubtedly colder than mine and slightly paler. Although hers did fit almost perfectly in mine. We shook hands and as soon as they left each other she buried hers into her lab coat pockets and I buried mine into my pants pockets. "I'm Professor and Dr. Franken Stein." I said. "You may call my by either title."

She gave a sight nod and stood up a little straighter to seem bigger than what she had seemed to be physically. "I'm Dr. Anne Perry. I prefer to be called by my surname." she said quietly.

I nodded and Lord Death clapped. "Now that everyone has met you may return to your duties." he said and returned to his Death Room while the cafe started back up with a dull roar. Spirit walked over to me and that was when I noticed that Dr. Perry was no longer next to me. I caught a glimpse of her lab coat as she turned a corner.

"Where is she off to?" Spirit asked.

I gave a slight shrug. "I have no idea." I turned to look at him making some sly face. "What?"

"Are you curious about her, Stein?" he asked smirking.

I crossed my arms. "She's.. interesting." I said.

"How are you going to learn anything without dissection? She doesn't look like the type to let people in." he stated. I gave nod.

"If we're anything alike as people have said all day then she just may let me in." I said.

He nodded. "Good luck with that."

I shrugged. Lunch was over and we made our way back to our class rooms.

Anne's POV

I closed and slid down the door. I let the back of my head hit the door. I released a sigh and stood. 'Don't get mad.' I walked back over to my desk and began reading files again. I had finished most of them and decided to put them back into the filing cabinet before I got anymore out and put them back into alphabetical order and labeled what drawer was what and continued the rest I had out and soon enough it was time to go home.

I stood slowly and put the files back and locked all of the  drawers and left my office before locking it and turning to leave down the hall. I went with the flow of students and other staff members to leave the building and went down the stairs as quickly as I could to get home. I traveled through back alleys and got home quicker than I would on the streets and unlocked my door and stepped in. I put my lab coat on the hanger next to the door and kicked off my shoes before going into my room and sat at my desk.

I stretched and leaned back too far and fell over. I laid there not caring about what had just happened and that I was no on the floor. I looked at the ceiling and sighed when a knock was at the door. I stood and went to the door to answer it. I opened it and looked at who it was and rose a brow.
