[1. Strange Occurrences]
A bustling hallway of students was comforting for Professor Charles Xavier. After the events of Cuba and a severe spinal injury as a result, Headmaster Xavier sought comfort in teaching his students, assisting them to control their abilities and be ready to face the real world.
Hank McCoy was the first to notice the strange occurrences throughout the school. It began early after the commencement of the first Semester when boarding students returned, beginning with the noises. Regardless of the mansion being a mature aged structure and the presence of many children, the noises of teleportation were unmistakable. However, as far as Professor McCoy and Xavier were aware, Kurt Wagner was the only mutant in the school who could do that.
The second sign came from the sightings. Hank would often check the students during the Nighttime alongside Charles and on several occasions has spotted a young woman in a suit in different parts of the school. Each time he would scramble to check or alert Charles, there was never anyone there. Charles was also unable to detect any new telepathic presence, therefore he was just concerned that his friend was overworking himself and would send Hank to rest.
The third sign proved that Hank McCoy was right. He insisted he saw the girl in the library and raced towards it. The entity disappeared, leaving a black trench coat laying on the couch arm. Hank was ecstatic to find physical evidence, while Professor Charles Xavier was utterly fascinated.
Charles was in the middle of a literature class with his older students, discussing the condition of human society, the marginalisation of mutants and how these children had the opportunity to make positive change. Charles was a kind, caring teacher and the love he had for his students resembled a fatherly presence. As he smiled, laughed and quizzed his students, all of whom adored him, he felt most at peace.
"Professor...have you seen the girl in the suit?" One of his students suddenly asked him. All students turned excitedly to look at him as if they were waiting for a ghost story.
"Pardon me, Olivia?" He asked, raising a brow at her, his signature patient smile on his face.
"The girl in the suit sir!" Another student repeated. Charles felt his stomach drop slightly as he realised all his students were aware of the girl in the suit that Hank saw.
"Can you tell me more, my friends?" He smiled easily.
"She's nice sir!"
"Yeah! She's a mutant...she has to be...."
"Yes, she has to be! She can teleport anywhere" Several students were talking. Charles could not help but feel the concern beginning to course through his veins.
"You are all so imaginative" He laughed.
"Sir, she's real. We've all seen her. What if she's dangerous?" Rebecca, the normally silent student, chimed up. Charles looked around at his students.
"My children, you are safe here, you will always be safe here" He spoke with a calm, reassuring firmness. "And just like that, class dismissed! Have a lovely lunch break." He waved as his students left. Shortly after, he had his fingers on his temple.
'Hank, meet me in my office please.'
Professor McCoy was quick to be at Charles' office door. "Are you alright?" was his first question.
"Mm? Oh yes, fine...I need to bring something to your attention" Charles began. Hank sat down in the chair across from Charles. "The students have started talking about the girl in the suit." Hank's brows immediately furrowed in concern.
"This is dangerous. We have an unknown mutant who has penetrated the school and now the children are aware" He was starting to look frazzled. "Just last night I found several books scattered around the library that were not there when I closed it."
"Just try to stay calm" Charles breathed softly, looking out his window. "The students claim that the mutant is friendly-"
"THEY'VE SPOKEN TO IT?" Hank asked loudly. Charles nodded, yet he didn't seem panicked. "Charles...this is a big deal-"
"Hank, this mutant has made no effort to harm the children in any way nor disrupt any operations of the school. I believe it is safe to say they are simply intrigued and not yet considered a threat."
"Can't you just, you know, pry its mind?"
"I attempted to at last contact, but something is blocking me." Hank sat back in his chair, rubbing a hand over his face and readjusting his glasses.
"Alright, well...what do we do, Charles?"
"We will remain vigilant...this mutant will show itself eventually. We will find out who this girl in the suit is."
