Explanation
So it's obvious by the last chapters comments that people want me to continue this story, what?? Sooooo... HERE YOU ARE MY MULTIFANDOM LOVELIES!!
The throne room door slammed shut loudly, the windows shaking violently with the surprising amount of force contained within Merlin's slim and slightly muscled frame.
Gwaine furrowed his brow even more than before, his brow becoming a met unibrow above his eyes. He lifted himself from his seat swiftly, he immediately began to head towards the closed door when Arthur immediately stood and shouted,
"Gwaine! What do you think you're doing?" Gwaine turned and looked at Arthur, an obvious burning anger behind his eyes, he grit his teeth and said harshly yet with a startlingly calm sense surrounding him,
"Merlin just had an obvious nightmare, in front of everyone, he was obviously hyperventilating as he left and I feel the ever so slight right to be worried about my best friend! It's Merlin! Something's obviously wrong with him, he's obviously upset and I want to know why! Merlin is Merlin, he is the kindest, most generous person any of us here have ever met, he doesn't deserve sadness. And besides, you all saw how pale he was! So when he has to leave room in a frenzy of sweat, fear and sweat, the fact that he was on the verge of hyperventilating as he left, I want to know WHY!" And with that, Gwaine was out the door, an echo of "Merlin!" Filling the corridor outside the throne room, followed by Gwaine's running footsteps flowed into the room.
The memories were burning into my mind, Merlin couldn't think and all he could remember was the sight of my kingdom burning, the fire, the screams, everything. I excited the throne room quickly, I only got so far. I could feel myself leaning against the wall down the hall, the cold stones leaching through my thin clothes, I could hear someone, it sounded like Gwaine, yell to me but I couldn't hear a thing, my mind too muddled, everything replaying on a loop.
I could vaguely feel someone pulling me to my feet, I felt as though it was probably Gwaine lifting me up, and someone murmuring to me, obvious attempts to bring me back to lucidity, attempting to get me to speak, to make sure I was ok.
I turned my head to the side, only to have my suspicions proven, Gwaine had one of my arms pulled over his shoulders, I was becoming more and more lucid, now noticing that Gwaine was practically dragging me down the hall with him, my feet being less coordinated than usual.
Gwaine saw that I had become lucid enough to see him, earning a easy yet harsh smile from the knight,
"Hey Merlin, you back to the land of the living?" A weak nod and Gwaine smiled, this time much easier and relaxed than before.
Gwaine faintly whispered, pulling Merlin into the Knights chambers,
"Merlin, listen to me. You're going to sit in my chambers, you're going to drink some wine, we'll talk and you'll tell me what just happened. Ok?" Merlin nodded weakly before he could stop himself, before Gwaine pulled him over to the table within his chambers.
Merlin sat and shifted in his seat, watching as Gwaine walked back to the door and asked a passing servant to fetch a jug of wine. When the servant returned, surprisingly swift, Gwaine nodded in 'thanks' and turned back to see that Merlin hadn't moved much, his eyes were still slightly glazed and dulled from the nightmare earlier.
Merlin looked startled, oddly enough, as his friend say in front of him and poured the 'servant' a goblet of wine. Merlin took it with a shaky hand, gulping down the bitterly sweet liquid quickly. Gwaine raised an eyebrow as he poured another goblet of wine for his friend, before he leaned back in his chair, watching his friend.
Merlin lowered his head to his lap as if it were the most interesting thing he'd ever seen, Gwaine's eyes on him the entire time. The darker haired man swallowed thickly before speaking, his voice a low, gravely should that Gwaine had never heard before, at least not from Merlin,
"If I tell you these secrets.. you have to swear on our friendship," he spoke pointedly with the last two words to emphasize his point, "that you will not repeat a word to anyone outside of this room." Again he emphasized the word to prove his point, earning a slight nod from the knight,
"I promise." Came said Knights reply.
Merlin exhaled shakily before speaking again, his voice still the deep gravel,
"Have you ever heard to the kingdom of Maybreak, just east of Cedred's kingdom?" Gwaine nodded, everyone knew of Maybreak.
"And you're aware of the symbols and markings true blood citizens of the kingdom have on their bodies, correct?"
Another nod.
"The crest of the long lined royal family?"
A third nod.
Merlin stood suddenly, his chair knocking back slightly, the heavy wood hitting the stone floor with a loud and thick 'crack'. Merlin pulled off his jacket and bloody red neckerchief, before locking eyes with Gwaine and pulling his blue tunic over his head quickly, revealing a secret that only Gaius and the since passed Lancelot knew of.
There on Merlin's chest, just above his heart, was the royal crest of the Maybreak royals, tattooed into his creamy, porcelain like skin. Gwaine's eyes were comically wide with shock, the sudden advancements in this curious case crashing into the Knights like a man running into a wall. Gwaine stuttered, an odd thing for him, as he spoke,
"But that means you'd need to have-" he was cut off by Merlin's deep blue eyes flashing a fiery gold, no words needed. A watery-rippling like affect took over Merlin's body, the Maybreak markings appearing on his, his neck and collar bones, all the way down his chest and shoulders, going downwards to decorate the "servants" arms, specks decorating his thin wrists.
The first time Gwaine had met Merlin, he'd assumed that the boy was all skin and bone but now, he was proved wrong. Merlin's muscles, despite not being as obvious as a knights, were still there. His flat stomach revealing slightly hidden abs, showing true strength in them, Merlin's arms and biceps showing hidden strength as well, Gwaine immediately realizing the reason for Merlin constantly wearing ill-fitting clothing.
When Merlin and Gwaine locked eyes again, the darker haired lads eyes had gone back to their natural deep blue, now with an almost prominent fearful look in them. Gwaine reached forward and pulled Merlin into a surprise embrace, earning a slight tensing of the boys back and shoulders, a surprised gasp escaping Merlin's lips.
Though, the hug is not what surprised Merlin the most. The fact that Gwaine was whispering, over and over,
"I'm sorry you've had to hide yourself for so long. I'm sorry you've had to hide. I'm sorry you've had to keep your head down and act like a fool. I'm sorry-" it continued on and on, Merlin carefully bringing his arms to Gwaine back before he returned the embrace.
Merlin then whispered, after some time in silence,
"Would you like to know what happened all those years ago in Maybreak?" Gwaine nodded as me pulled away from Merlin. He, like many others didn't know the full story of what had happened many years ago in the kingdom of Maybreak, all that was known was that the royal family was forced from the kingdom and a tyrant named Erikson had taken over.
Merlin sat, Gwaine soon following as the dark haired lad began to explain to Gwaine everything from that day 6 years ago, in every detail as possible.
When he finished telling his story, Gwaine looked even more shocked than before. Merlin had his head on his hands and he was trying to control his breathing, taking deep breaths through his nose and out of his mouth. Gwaine stood suddenly, but we stopped by a hoarse and weak whisper,
"Promise me again.. promise me you won't say a word to anyone. Please." The last word sounded so broken, Gwaine couldn't resist dropping to his knees in front of the newly discovered Prince, and pulled the boy into another hug, this one only slightly more awkward than before.
"I swear I won't tell a soul. That doesn't mean I'm not going to get more protective. " Merlin smiled weakly and nodded,
"Thank you Gwaine." Merlin grinned and stood, pulling his tunic back on before he quickly tied his neckerchief back around his neck and pulled on his jacket. He walked to the chamber door and turned back, sending Gwaine a weak and weary smile. Gwaine cocked his head to the side before saying quickly,
"I'm talking to the princess tomorrow. You're getting tomorrow off, you're paler than usual." Merlin scoffed and mumbled a 'thanks' wanting a smirk from the knight.
"I'm serious though. I promised, not going to tell a soul, but I'm talking to the princess later, you're getting tomorrow off to rest. You look like you're about to keel over." Merlin smiled softly, before nodding weakly to the knight.
The knight watched as his friend disappeared
out of the door and listened to the sound of his boots pad down the empty hallway, before they drowned out completely. As soon as Gwaine was certain Merlin was gone, he poured himself a large goblet of wine, which he downed in record timing, before he stood fully and walked out his chamber door, heading to the throne room where the court session was obviously still in session.
