A great time ago there was a princess, she had given birth to, two beautiful and talented children: Prince Zuko and Princess Azula. One night, in the dead of silence the princess had been killed, her death was to punish her husband, the Fire Lord of the Fire Nation.
A few years later the Fire Lord had called for his eldest child, Prince Zuko, who was out in the training grounds perfecting his stances for his fire bending. Once the young Prince was in his father's presence he made haste to get down and bow in front of his father waiting to be spoken to.
The prince and the Fire Lord sat in silence for when Ozai had spoken, his son had flinched at the sudden noise. "Do you know why I have called for you Prince Zuko?" the fire lord had questioned calmly. Zuko wasn't sure if his fathers question was rhetorical or not, for he hadn't answered. "You can answer boy." The elder man had spoken.
Zuko took in a deep breath before replying, "I do not, father" the prince had answered as he pushed down the nervousness bubbling up in his stomach.
"You remember your mother, am I correct?" Ozai let out a deep sigh.
Zuko was quiet for a moment, thinking about his father's question and letting it sink in. Of course, he remembered his mother, besides his uncle Iroh, she was one of the only people in the palace that seemed to care about him. "Yes father, I do remember her." the prince responded and looked up at his father hoping that it would tell gin what this was about, but he had quickly pulled his head back down when he had met Ozai's strong gaze.
Ozai slowly walked through the fire around his throne and down the stairs that lead up to the expensive chair. "You look so much like your mother, " he said slowly walking towards his son. "Did you know that?" he asked and stopped walking once he had reached his destination, right in front of his son.
Zuko was quite shocked by the question, he hadn't expected fit his father to ask something like that. It seemed unusual of his father, not just the question but bringing up his mother in general, the Fire Lord was devastated at the of the Prince's mother to the point that anyone who would even mention her name would instantly be banished.
Ozai looked down towards his son and knelt down on his knees to be able to look at him on even grounds and pulled him in for a tight embrace. Zuko had hesitantly wrapped his arms around his father, he was confused, the prince had always thought that his father had despised him.
Zuko was stuck in his father's embrace for what had felt like hours, once Ozai had pulled him away Zuko went to speak but his words got lost before they could leave his mouth, for he was in a deep gaze but his father's golden eyes. Ozai gently stands up and makes his way back up the stairs and through the fire to his throne.
He clears his throat and looks deep into his son's eyes, "as of today, you are to no longer practice your fire bending if you are caught then whoever is teaching you will be banished." Zuko gaped at his father in shock, before he could protest his father had spoken once more, "you are dismissed." Shortly after a guard had shown up and gently escorted the prince out of the throne room.
