Chapter Three

"Ah my head!" Willow muttered under her breath. She was on lying on something warm, and cosy. As the memory of the alley way flooded back to her, she sat up. "Bakura?" She called. There was a stirring, and from a corner of the room he came out of the shadows. "Why did you follow me?" He asked sternly. Willow blinked. Saying nothing, she reached in her pocket and took out the picture that was in there. She silently handed it to him. Taking it, he looked at the photo. The sudden softening of his face and the saddness crossing his eyes made Willow's heart ache. "Thank you. So much." he reached over to her and wrapped her in his arms. Willow returned the hug. "It's ok. I'm sorry I didn't get it to you sooner." Ryou pulled away, but kept his hands on her shoulders. "I was walking back to the school to find it. It's the last photo that was taken of me and my sister before..." He trailed off. Willow could have sworn she saw a tear run down his face. "Her and my mother passed away in a car wreck six years ago. I miss them so much, especially Amane. She always was the sweetest girl." He turned back to her. Willow fidgeted with her hands. "Bakura..." She started.

"Yes?" He asked. They both knew what was coming.

"What happened in the alley way?"

Silence filled the room. She tried another question. "Why did you save me?" A shadow fell across Bakura's face. And a grin, a sly, evil grin slipped onto his mouth. "Let me show you." He knelt on the bed next to her. She backed away, her back hitting the headboard of the bed she was sitting on. His face came close to hers, one of his arms either side of her body, and for a crazy moment she thought he would kiss her. Willow closed her eyes, and she felt his hand press to the left side of her chest. A burst of bright light erupted, and Willow was somewhere else. She was standing beside a house. The area surrounding it was covered in bright sand. She could feel the heat, even in the inky night. All of a sudden, she heard footsteps and hushed murmurs. Turning, she saw a boy, who looked to be in the preteen stage of his life, approached. It was, what looked like, a tanned, younger Bakura. He walked straight past Willow, crouching in front of the door of the house. A few more people Willow did not recognize followed. Bakura made a signal with his fingers, and everyone stopped, slowly crouching. Bakura started to pick the lock on the door, and was please to find the door was open, anyway. Pushing the door open, they saw nothing but darkness. "All clear. Take what is of any value." Little Bakura said , and then there was chaos. The three others started ransacking the place. Some heading to the kitchen, some to the other rooms. Bakura was left alone in the middle of the main room. Then, Willow heard a snuffle, a scratch. And then: "Help. Help me please!" A small voice whimpered from behind a door. Bakura turned to locate the voice, and found that the noise was coming from a small door that he wouldn't have noticed if he wasn't looking for it. "Please, help me!" Bakura rushed to the door, eager to see who was behind it. He found it locked. Taking the handle, he started to slam at the door with his shoulder, making it splinter beneath it. He looked inside. It was nothing more than a cupboard, with no windows, or candles, or even a door handle to get out of the room. On the floor was a small amount of straw, a plate, a bowl of water, and nothing else. But in the far corner, there was a girl. She was small, dirty, and struggling with a chain that held her by the neck to the wall. The strangest thing, was that she looked like Willow. "Help! Please!!!" The girl cried. "Take me away from him!" She was terrified, it was marked in her face, as plain as the dirt that was there. Bakura dropped to his knees beside her. The collar around her neck only permitted her to get so far. And there seemed to be a lock. "Bakura! I've found a key! I've tried every lock in the house, but none of them will open..." Another boy, short with long black hair came dashing into the room to find the girl and Bakura on the floor. "Give it to me, I have something." Handing the key to him, the boy ran off into the house again. Bakura looked to the girl, then to the key. Taking hold of the collar, he put the key into the lock hole. He turned it, and it snapped open. The collar fell from the girls neck. Gasping, she touched her neck to check if it was really gone. The girl threw her arms around him. "I am forever in your debt, thank you!" Little Bakura held her closer, too. A small, genuine smile grew on his lips.

"You see, Willow? You see why I saved you?" Bakura's voice filtered to her as she watched the sweet scene. Slowly, the scene faded away and all Willow saw now was Bakura's face. His face seemed sharper somehow. "I... I must be dreaming. This cannot be happening."

"Tell me Willow, do you believe in reincarnation? Past lives?" Bakura smiled at Willow, a sinister smile.

"No." Willow said simply.

"Huh. Well you should. Me, you, Yugi, and Seto Kaiba are linked in some way to Ancient Egypt. We all are."

"If that's true, then how are me and you linked? What WAS that? Why was I chained to a wall?"

Bakura's face became dark. "You were the supposed daughter of a land baron. One day he and his wife had acquired a daughter, though no one had seen his wife's stomach grow. When his wife died, he locked you in the cupboard and didn't let you out. You hadn't seen the light of day in over six years. I rescued you, and over time we became very close. We were to be married, but you were killed before I could come home from a raid."

"I... I don't know what to believe. No amount of drugs or technology could make what I just saw possible. But the thought of being someone's past life, someone else, it's ridiculous."

"Start believing it. Come with me to the museum, we'll speak to Ishizu Ishtar, she'll probably know something."

"Wait. Actually. Who the hell is Ishizu Ishtar? Were is this musuem? And what in the world would this Ishizu know?"

"Quite a lot. She knows all there is to know about Ancient Egypt." Willow looked at Bakura, and said:

"Alright, lets go."
