MADISON'S APARTMENT
[ ☼ ]

The boys knock on her front door. Across the hall, Glen opens his door to see the commotion. "What's going on?" He asks.

"Police business, Glen." Dean says just as Madison answers.

      "What is it?" She asks.

Elena glances at Glen. "Well, maybe we should talk privately."

Later in the kitchen, Madison is pouring them coffee. "Has Kurt been here?" Elena asks.

      "Not exactly."

"What exactly does "not exactly" mean?" Dean asks.

"Well, he was outside last night. Just...looking. Just looking at me." Madison says and the gang exchange a look. "Has he done something?"

"We're not really sure." Sam says.

"It's probably nothing, but...we just don't wanna take any chances. In fact, one of us should probably stay here with you, just in case he stops by. Where does he work?" Dean asks.

"He owns a body shop." Madison says.

"You mind grabbing that address for us?" Dean asks and she nods and leaves the room. "Thanks."

"All right, you go. I'll stay." Sam says and Elena watches the boys in amusement.

"Forget that. You go after the creepy ex. I'm gonna hang here with the hot chick." Dean says.

"Dude, why do you always get to hang out with the girls?" Sam says.

      "Because I'm older."

"No, screw that. We settle this the old-fashioned way." Sam takes the coffee cups and sets them down, then raises his fist for Rock-Paper-Scissors. Dean plays along, choosing scissors while Sam chooses rock. "Dean, always with the scissors."

"Shut up, shut up. Two out of three." Dean say. They play once more, with Sam's rock again beating Dean's scissors. "God!"

"We'll both stay with Madison. I've got catching up to do anyway." Elena says.

"Bundle up out there, all right?" Sam teases Dean.

Later that morning, Madison is checking through the mail while Elena watches from the kitchen table. She smiles uncomfortably at her. "It's been so long." Madison says and stares at Elena warily. "Um...do you wanna sit on the couch?"

"No. No, no. I'm okay." Elena says.

      "It's more comfortable."

"Ah, I'm fine." Madison leaves and comes back to the table with a basket of laundry. Dumping it onto the table, she begins sorting through her underwear.

"You know, I think I will sit on the couch." Elena goes and sits next to Sam. He scratches his head awkwardly until his phone rings.

"Let me guess. You're sitting next to Elena on the couch like a stiff, trying to think of something to say." Dean asks.

"Did you find Kurt?" Sam averts.

"No, he hasn't been at work all week. But because I'm good, and I mean really, really good, I got a line on where he might be." Dean says. "What's she doing?"

      "Bye, Dean." Sam hangs up.

Madison comes to sit by Elena on the couch. She turns on the TV to a soap opera. Elena makes a face, visibly annoyed by the choice of programming. "I saw that." Madison says.

      "Saw what?" Elena asks.

"Okay, this is the deal: my house, my TV. I never get to watch my show. So suck it up."

Later, after the credits have rolled, Sam and Elena are completely riveted. "Wait, so...Kendall married Ethan's father just to get back at him?"

"Yup. And now she's set to inherit all the casinos that were supposed to go to Ethan." Madison says.

"What a bitch!" Elena yells and they all laugh.

"Admit it, you're hooked." Madison says.

"No, no, no, no, no. I wouldn't say I'm hooked." Elena says as Madison giggles. "You know, can I ask you a question? It's – it's a little personal."

"You've seen my entire underwear collection, awkward girl moment. Go ahead."

"Okay, um...well, you're – you're clearly smart. I mean, your house is full of great books, you know? And you're independent." Elena starts.

      "Uh-huh."

"What were you doing with Kurt? You could do so much better." Elena says.

Madison pauses. "I don't know. I mean, it's not like he introduced himself, like, "Hi, I'm possessive and controlling and I like to punch people. Wanna be my girlfriend?""

"Yeah, well, I guess we all make mistakes." Sam says.

"Yeah, well, mine's wanted by the police. You wanna know why I stayed with him? Really?" Madison says and Elena nods. "I was too insecure to leave."

"I find that hard to believe. I mean, you don't really seem like the type." Sam says.

"Yeah, well, some stuff happened. My life changed, I changed. For the better, I think."

      "What happened?" Elena asks.

"Well, for one thing, I got mugged." Madison says.

"And that's supposed to be a good thing?" Elena asks.

Madison laughs. "I know, it sounds strange. And don't get me wrong, it rattled me. But then it hit me. I could keep feeling sorry for myself, or I could take control of my life. I chose the latter. First thing I did was tell Kurt he had to go." She says.

      "Smart move." Sam says.

"Apparently. Everything else just opened up, blossomed. It's all been wonderful, really." Madison says and shrugs. "What? Doesn't everybody think that being a victim of random violence is the best thing that ever happened to them?"

Sam laughs. "Yeah, not so much. You're...unusual."

"Unusual, like..." Madison points to her head. "unusual?"

Elena waves her hands. "No. No. No, no, no. What he means is unusual, like...impressive." She says.

"I am pretty impressive." Madison says as Sam's phone rings.

He smiles apologetically. "Sorry." He answers. "Hey."

Dean is at a strip club, sitting in front of a stripper. "I found him." He says.

"Good, don't take your eyes off him." Sam says.

Dean, taking his eyes off the stripper, glances at Kurt. He is sitting across the table, also watching the stripper. Dean looks back at the woman. "Oh, yeah, my eyes are glued. Look, Sammy, I gotta let you go. I, uh, I don't wanna miss anything." He hands the stripper a dollar bill and hangs up, smirking.

MADISON'S APARTMENT
[ ☾]

Elena is in Madison's room, helping her fix her bed sheets. Madison watches her cautiously, smiling. "What?" Elena asks while laughing.

     "You like him." She says.

"Who, Sam?" Elena asks and shakes her head.

"I can always tell when you like someone." Madison says. "Remember Joey from high school?"

Elena laughs to herself. "Yeah, always made fun of me. Found out he had a crush on me later."

"He was your boyfriend later that year." Madison says.

"But Sam and me would never work out." Elena says sadly.

      "Why not?"

Elena sighs. "It's complicated. I mean I want to, I really, really want to, but there's something in my gut telling me 'you're doomed'. I don't know if I should listen to it."

"Forget your gut." Madison says. "What about your heart? What's it telling you."

"I'm going to bed in that extra room." Elena says and walks away.

"I have spare sheets if you get the other ones dirty!" Madison yells as Elena shakes her head.

Turning the corner, Elena sees the distraught Sam. Elena joins Sam in the living room, while he watches the full moon from the window. "So I just said goodnight to Madison. I think I'm gonna turn in."

"Okay, yeah. Well, I'll be here." Sam says, motioning to the couch.

      "Okay."

"You know, if you hear anything, I mean if you wake up, just – just call out." Sam fidgets awkwardly.

      "Okay." Elena says again.

"Okay." She smiles uncomfortably and goes into her bedroom. Sam sighs, frustrated with himself.

Later, Sam is watching TV in the living room. He glances at Elena's bedroom, but there's no movement.

Meanwhile, Dean is standing on the street outside Kurt's house. He sees a light turn on inside the house and gets his gun ready. Suddenly, he hears glass shattering. He looks back up to see the lights off in the house.

"What the-? Dean runs to the house and bursts through the door. Entering one of the rooms, he sees the werewolf hovering over Kurt's mauled body. It turns towards Dean. The werewolf is Madison.

Though she still looks human, her eyes have turned an electric blue, and her teeth have turned to bloody fangs. She growls and runs to Dean, pushing him into the wall.

He cuts her arm with his knife, causing her to jump out the window and leave.

Later that morning, Sam and Elena are still at Madison's apartment. He answers his ringing cell phone. "Dean, you okay?" Sam asks.

"Yeah, now that I'm conscious. The werewolf knocked me out." Dean says. "Sam, it's Madison."

     "What?"

"Yeah, you and Elena did an awesome job of keeping an eye on her.

Sam enters Madison's bedroom to see that she is sound asleep. "Dean, I've been here the whole time. She's in bed, asleep." Sam says.

"Well, she wasn't an hour ago. Check her right arm below her elbow. I nicked her with a silver knife." Dean says as Sam hangs up.

Madison rolls over and wakes up, noticing Sam. "Morning." She sits up and notices that she is naked, covered only by her bed sheets. Sam sees the wound on her arm. "Um...where are my pajamas?" Sam, upset, leaves the bedroom. "Sam? What's going on? Where are you going?"

She follows him to the living room, where he is locking the front door. "I'm not going anywhere. And neither are you."

Later, Madison is seated in a chair, with her wrists bound. Sam is standing in front of her, holding a gun. "You're psychotic. Elena he's crazy." She says.

"Maybe it's not her." Elena says.

"I saw the cut in her arm." Sam says. "It's her alright."

"The whole "I'm a cop" trip, God, I am so stupid." Madison says.

"Well, I guess neither of us are who we said we were, huh?" Sam says.

"Sam, you're sick, okay? You're imagining things. Monsters don't exist, not really."

"You know what? Save the act." He says.

Madison is crying. "It's not an act! I am not a werewolf! There's no such thing! It's made up, all right? They're not real! You know they're not real!"

"No?" Sam points to her wound. "Then where did that come from?"

"I don't know! Sam, God, you need help. Please, don't do something that you're gonna regret. I'm not what you think I am. I'm not." Madison says. Sam, visibly upset, hears knocking at the door.

He opens it to see Dean, who enters and smirks at Madison. "How you doin'? My head feels great, thanks." Dean says.

"We've gotta talk." Elena says as she brings Dean and Sam into another room. "She says she has no idea what I'm talking about."

      "She's lying." Dean says.

"Or maybe she really doesn't know she's changing, you know? Maybe – maybe when the creature takes over, she blacks out." Sam says.

"Like a really hot Incredible Hulk. Come on, dude, she ganked her boss and her ex-boyfriend. That doesn't sound rash and unconscious."

"Yeah, but what if it was, Dean? I mean, what if some animal part of her brain saw both those guys as threats? Hell, the cop, too." Sam says.

"What are you, the Dog Whisperer now?" Dean asks.

"Look, I just...I don't know, there – there was something in her eyes." Elena says.

"Yeah, she's killing people!" Dean yells.

"But if she has no control over it—"

"Exactly. She can't control it. Even if she's telling the truth, it's not gonna change anything." Sam says.

"I'm not putting a bullet through some girl's chest who has no idea what's happening." Sam says.

"Sam, she's a monster, and you're feeling sorry for her?"

"Maybe I understand her." Sam says. "Look, there might be another way we can get the job done without having to waste her."

"Are you thinking what I think you're thinking?"

Elena flips through the journal. "Your Dad's theory –- "lycanthropy might have a cure if you kill the werewolf who bit you, severing the bloodline"." She says.

"Might have a cure. Meaning "who the hell knows?"" Says Dean.

"It's worth a shot." Sam says.

"We don't even know where to start looking, all right? I mean, the puppy that bit her could be anyone, anywhere. It could've been years ago." Dean says.

Sam realizes something. "No. I don't think so." He leads Dean back to the living room, where Madison is still seated. "Madison, when were you mugged? Please. It's important, all right? Just answer the question."

"About a month ago." She says.

"Did you see the guy?" Elena asks.

"No. He grabbed me from behind."

"Did he bite you?" Elena asks.

Madison pauses. "How did you know that?"

      "Where?" Elena asks.

"On the back of my neck."

Elena goes over and brushes her hair away, exposing a scarred lump the size of a golf ball on her neck. "Oh, that's just a love bite. Believe me, that could have been a lot worse. Where were you at the time?" Dean asks.

"Walking home from a friend's loft." Madison says.

"Let me guess. Not too far from Hunter's Point?" Sam asks. She nods.

Elena takes Dean back into the other room, closing the door. "The same place where those other murders happened. I'm telling you, it's a werewolf's hunting grounds." She says.

"Maybe, but that doesn't mean it's gonna be out there tonight." Dean says.

"It's the right time of the lunar cycle. Look, I know it's a long shot." Elena says.

"Hey, you're forgetting something. Maddie's probably gonna turn soon, all right? We can't just let her take off to an all-you-can-eat buffet." Dean says.

"We'll stay with her." Sam says.

"And if she busts loose?" Dean asks and there's no response. "Sam?"

      "I'll do it." Sam says.

      "Sam. You can't." Elena say.

"I'll shoot her, all right? But Dean, I need you to go out there. At least go look for the thing. Dean, please. We can save this girl." Sam says.

Dean speaks after a pause. "Fine." He leaves the apartment. Sam rejoins Madison, who is still crying.

"Please. Elena why are you doing this? Just let me go." Elena looks at her sympathetically and sits in front of her.

"Look...I know you're scared. I also know that there's no way in hell you're gonna believe me. But I'm doing this because I'm trying to help you. I'm not gonna lie, all right, the odds aren't exactly in our favor. But if this goes the way I pray it does...I'll untie you, and I'll walk out that door and I'll never come back. You'll live the rest of your life. And I'll just be a bad memory." Elena says.
