(Chapter Twenty-Two)

I knew I was dreaming, I had been laying down in my bed thinking about today. My father had finally calm down enough to really understand this—well, in his way of understand was to shut down completely and sit in his office to think. My mother had been a little traumatized by my dad anger, apparently she hated and feared when my dad got mad which never happened a lot but it scares her because she get flashbacks of her own father. My dad said we shouldn't tell Jace right now the new, wait until he figures out how he's going to tell my uncles and my aunt Lena.

Last thing I remember was being in Hermes arms and couldn't wait to see him as I fell asleep to the TV. Now, I'm in a dark eery woods and I don't know where I am. It was the woods in Nash, it was somewhere like in a horror movie that would send chills to my bones.

“Ah, leave me alone!”, I heard a female scream, making me take in a sharp breath and I turned around. I didn't see anyone but I know I heard someone. It was moments later and I didn't hear the voice again, so I hesitantly turned around again and I looked up at the black eery night sky, the moon shinning bright and big, covering me with light.

I brought my hand up to my chest, feeling a sudden need to change into my wolf and go for a run. The moon was more magical when it's full.

I saw something in the corner of my eyes and my head quickly snapped to my right. My eyes widen when I saw a girl around my age running into some long white night dress. It was old fashion, no one would wear a dress to bed anymore.

I then heard men voices and horses. My head turned around, I saw five men with torches, two on horses, and three on feet chasing after the girl. I was quickly filled with fear, but even in a dream, I knew I had to help her so I chased after her.

“Hey, wait up!”, I yelled and she quickly turned her head around to look straight me. Her eyes widen very wide though and she screamed loudly before turning it back around and ran. I saw the sweat on his face though and she looked terrified.

I pushed myself hard and I reached out when I was only about a foot away. I lunged for the girl and I caught her, but we sadly fell on the ground and she breathed out heavily since I was on top. She then screamed and struggled under me.

“Stop it!”, I said. “I'm not going to hurt you.”

I forced the girl around and she gave me a blood curling scream. I pulled my hands away from her and I sat up straight quickly, giving the girl a look. She crawled out from under me, but didn't get up but continue to crawl backwards until her back hit a tree.

“I am not a witch! I was wrongly accused!”, she said, bring her knees up to her chest. “You must believe me!”

“Huh?”, I questioned. “What are you talking about?”

“Good work, Juan. You caught her, she is a quick one.”, I heard a male behind me and my head swapped around to glare at the man who called me that. He was older, maybe in his late thirties and he his clothes—very, very, very old fashion. What am I dreaming? I never had this kind of dream before, I never dreamed of the—Salem Witch Trails before. He put his hand on my shoulder and gave a pat. I almost reached up to grab his hand and claw it away but for some reason, I couldn't. I couldn't control my own dream when I badly wanted to jump up from the ground and attack him for going near the scared to death girl.

“Please, I beg you! It's not true!”, the girl begged as she looked up at him. Her face was wet with tears, her brownish-blonde hair had mud and dirt in it as well as being ratty, and she was dirty. She held her arms up when he reached down and struggled in his hands, “No, please! Stop! It's not true, I swear on God it is not true!”

“Let her go!”, I yelled but they didn't. They were acting as if they hadn't heard me at all. “Put her down or I'll kill you! Stop it!”

I tried to change into my wolf, but the turn wouldn't even happen. I knew I was dream, but after I turned fourteen and my first shirt I've always dreamt of being in my wolf, running around in my dreams. This dream was a nightmare, a really bad one, and I just wanted to wake up. I didn't want to watch this, I wanted to dream about Hermes.

Not. . .this!

The girl was screaming and begging, crying and more begging. I had to cover my ears and plead myself to wake up, but it was hard. I was even slapping myself, trying to pull myself out, but nothing work. I closed my eyes tightly and screamed.

“This is what he did.”, I heard a voice now only. It was very familiar and it wasn't Lucinda. It wasn't even a females voice. I froze in my spot, my hands still covering my ears, and my eyes squeezed shut.

“Get out of my dreams, Cody.”, I growled out.

“Who block myself sister out?”, he asked. “Hermes isn't that strong to be able to hold her out for more then an hour. Who did it?”

My eyes opened and I glared at him, “I'm more wolf then human right now, even in a dream. Get out!”

“This is what your ancestors did. Accuse innocent girls and burned them.”, he said. “I'm only showing you.”

I snipped at him as if I was a wolf, “Not all of them were innocent apparently because three of them did this to my family!”, I said, knowing I was fully aware that I was defending Juan when I didn't want to. The words were just flying out my mouth.

He smirked, “All of you are just like, you know.”

“I'm nothing like him!”, I said, my voice hard and cold. “Out of my dreams now!”

“Tell me who blocked her!”, he yelled back.

“Why do you care so much?”, I asked and he glared at me. “You're scared of her, aren't you Cody? Hermes did tell me you did listen to your sister cause she was first born and she's actually stronger then you.”

He chuckled, but it was humorless, “That's what he said, huh? I'm strong enough to reach inside the pretty head of yours though and look inside.”

I took in a sharp breath and put my hands back over my ears, thinking of random stuff like my favorite singer or food to eat. I even began singing inside my heads.

“That isn't going to work, Jaycee, I'll find out the truth.”, he said.

“No!”, I screamed, reaching my hands out and I pushed him.

“Jaycee!”, I heard my father voice and my eyes snapped open. He was holding me down on my bed by my upper arms and he gave me a concern look. I looked to my right and saw my mom hands were covering her mouth and my brother was at my door, giving me a look as if I was crazy.

My chest was rising up and down heavily. I felt cold sweat on my forehead which I haven't felt forever since my first shift.

“What were you dreaming?”, he asked.

I took a few second to catch my breath and knew I wasn't going to start crying, “I—I. . .something about the Salem Witch Trails.”

“The what?”, he questioned. “Are you serious? Why would you be dreaming about that?”

“I don't know.”, I lied even though I knew why I had. Cody forced the dream of me, so I would suffer by watching what my ancestor did to his kind. It was horrible. “Was—was I talking in my dream?”, I asked.

“More like screaming.”, he said, taking his hands off my arms. “I have never seen you do that, Jaycee. Was it really that scary? You never got scared of horror movies before.”

“It felt so real though.”, I admitted. It really felt so real.

“It was just a dream though, nothing to be afraid of.”, he said, stroking my hair as if I was a kid again. I just bit my bottom lip and nodded, but I knew it was more then a dream now. Both Lucinda and Cody are going to do everything in their powers to scare me to death. Or worse.

. . .

(Hermes)

When I walked into school and into the Junior hallway, I looked around for Lucinda or Cody but I didn't see them. When I should feel relief, I didn't and I felt something was up. Maybe not right now, but later.

I saw Jaycee at her locker and she was grabbing her history book out her locker. I walked over to her and touched her arm, “Hey.”, I said and she jerked a little, surprising me. She turned around and she had dark circles under her eyes.

She cleared her throat and tucked the right side of her hair behind her ear, “I-I know, I don't look like the most attractive girl right now. I hadn't sleep since two am.”

“Why?”, I asked.

She looked down at the floor for a second before looking up, “Bad dreams—look, I don't what to talk about them.”, she said, crossing her arms over her chest with the book in the middle. She had on an over-size sweater and black leggings with black Vans. The usual Jaycee thing to wear. She brought one hand up to her mouth and chewed on her thumb.

I had a feeling in my stomach it was more then just bad dreams. I didn't want to force them out of her right now because she looked like crap. I wrapped my hand around her arm and pulled her into my chest, wrapping the same arm around her, “It's fine.”

She put one arm around my waist as her head laid on my chest.

I heard a scuff groan sound and we turned our heads to our right to see Jaycee friends—Jessica and Louis I think their names were—and they didn't look so happy.

“I really thought Jaycee was a lesbian.”, Louis said and my eyes widen a little before I looked down at Jaycee questionably.

“I always thought she liked dark haired boys. Not blondes.”, the girl said.

“Oh, stop it.”, Jaycee said, taking her arm away from my waist. “You guys are all going to have to get along.”

“Jock boy better be prepared to hand all three of us. It's not just Jaycee, it's us to.”, the girl said. “We're a pack.”, she chuckled.

“Of what? Hippies?”, I asked and Jaycee hit me on my side, making me wince. I shrugged, “I hate sports, so not a jock.”

. . .

I laid my fingers on my desk and began moving my fingers in a tickling way. Jaycee's back stiffen in front of me and jerked, reaching behind her, and touching somewhere on her back. I chuckled lightly, covering my mouth so the teacher wouldn't hear me.

Jaycee quickly turned around in her seat, “Stop that.”, she whispered, but hiss. “Not cute.”

“Of course it is.”, I whispered back. “I'm very bored right now.”

“That's to bad—”

“Robinson, Russo, want to share your little conversation with the rest of the class?”, our teacher asked and she put a hand on her hip.

“No, ma'am.”, I said as Jaycee turned around in her seat quickly.

“Our bad, we apologize.”, Jaycee said, but I could hear the amusement in her voice.

Class went off and I kept playing with Jaycee as my voodoo doll. She was getting annoyed with me, but I just found it cute and amusing. Some people were giving her weird looks from all her jumping and moving around.

When class finally ended, we packed up and she ignored me. “Awe, don't be a baby.”, I whispered to her as I got up and leaned against her desk as she got her stuff ready.

“Not fair if I can't get you back.”, she whispered back.

“What a freak.”, we heard some girls talk among themselves, catching our attention as two girls from class was walking towards the door. “What does a guy like Hermes see in a girl like her?”

I heard growling from behind the back of Jaycee's throat and she looked pissed off from what they said.

I chuckled, “Hey, relax puppy.”, I whispered and she glared at me now. I sat up and whispered a words before holding my chin up as I looked at the girl who said that backpack. Suddenly it was like someone ripped it and all her stuff fell out—even her pads and tampons.

The girl panicked as she reached down and picked them up as some of the guys in watched her in amusement.

Jaycee got up and hit me, but looked amused, “Ha-ha.”, she said.
