(Chapter Twelve.)

I read the direction of what the facemask told me to do. I dampen my face a little and squeeze the really thick paste onto my hand. "Ew,", I grinned, chuckling. The facemask smelled just like tooth paste. I hesitated, but put the paste on my face, chuckling how weird it felt.

I pulled away and rubbed the paste between my finger, "'Oh here comes the green monster!'", I said, making voice lower and deeper like a man before I rubbed some on my forehead. "'Get her before she destroy everything!'", I joked, giggling.

"What on earth are you doing?", I heard Jace's voice, making me jump, turning around to glare at him.

Using my clean hand, I grabbed the door, "Get out of here, runt-"

"This guy must really be your mate if your trying a facemask. I mean, finally your attempting to do something to fix your face.", he said and I growled at him, reaching out to grab him, but he dunked and I chase off him downstairs.

"Shut up-gottca!" I said when I grabbed Jace's shirt, but with the hand that had the facemask paste.

"Ugh, Jacyee!", Jace said, through my hand off his shirt.

"Jaycee!", my mother said as she walked into the dinning room and put her hand on her waist. She looked at my hand and Jace's shirt before sighing and shaking her head, "Just go clean your face off, we have company.", she said and a girl came in behind my mother.

My hand let go of Jace's shirt when my eyes widen slightly when I recognize her. How could I? She walked next to my mom, grinned, and waved her fingers at me.

"You didn't tell me you made a new friend.", she said, turning to Lucinda. "I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name.".

"Lucinda.", she said. "And we just recently started hanging out, I thought I would surprise Jaycee by coming over, having some fun. Nice choice of face cream, Jaycee, always nice to pamper yourself when you want.".

Jace snorted, "She hardly does this.", he said, giving Lucinda admiring eyes and looked like a drooling puppy, making me hit the back of his head, luckily with the hand that had the paste.

"Opps,", I sarcastically said. "You should go wash your hair before it dries up or dad might have to cute your stupid hair.", I said to scare him cause the paste will come out even if it did dry.

"Brat.", he growled at me before going into the kitchen.

"Runt.", I said.

I face heated up though when I remember I still had the facemask on my face that was beginning to try on my face and my hand. I coughed to clear my throat, feeling really awkward to have Lucinda in my house and not only that, she was lying to my mother.

"Right.", I said so I wouldn't have to force myself to lie to mother or worse, tell her the truth. "Lets go up to my room.".

"Great.", she said and followed me behind, but I felt goose bumps going up my arm.

I showed her my mom and excused myself to go take the mask off, which made her nodded. I was kind of hesitate to leave her alone...in my room. I went into the bathroom and washed my face and hands.

What is she doing here?, I thought to myself, having this bad feeling in my guts. I looked up at the mirror and took my hair out of the ponytail, my long dark hair cascading over my shoulders. So Hermes ex is my bedroom, hopefully not putting some witchy curse and doesn't know my family secret. She isn't here to hurt me, right? Hermes said she couldn't hurt me if I wore the barcelt, but could she hurt my family? Is that why she's here?

Knowing I couldn't hide to much longer in the bathroom, I slowly walked over to my room where Lucinda was sitting on my bed, texting away. Hmm, so witches text, not send messages through fire.

She smiled and put her phone down, "We never got to fully introduce ourselves.", she said, getting up and walked over to me, holding her hand out. "I'm Lucinda Rhodes, I'm an old friend of Hermes and Cody's sister.", she said, putting up a good acting role.

I hesitated, but held my hand out and shook her hand, "Jaycee Russo.".

"Nice to meet you. I thought since hey, we all know Hermes, we can be friends.", she said. "I would like to get to know you.", she said, a slight curve in the side of her mouth like she was holding back a grin.

"Uh. . .okay.", I said.

"Why don't you tell me about yourself.", she said. "Like how do you know Hermes?".

"How do you?", I asked, answering a question with a question.

"I'm his ex girlfriend.", she said. "We met when we were fifteen and dated. You?".

"We were friends as kids.", I said.

"Oh, he never mentioned you.", she said.

Ouch. "Guess he thought he would see me again.", I said, walking around her to go over to my phone.

"Well, Hermes never told any of us about his past.", she said, double ouch. I could feel my claws inching to come out. "He can be secretive, but maybe that's why I broke up with him, I hate people who hide secret. I mean, why hide a secret? The truth could only ever set someone free.".

My eyebrows furrowed together as I turned around, "Huh?".

She shrugged her right shoulder, "Nothing. Look, just think about hanging out, I'm a pretty fun girl to be around.", she said before grabbing her phone off my bed and slipped it in her back pocket. She winked at me, "Show me around, Nash. Cute room.", she said before walking out of my room and I followed behind her, making sure she left my house.

"Bye Lucinda!", Jace said before she slipped out of the door.

I ran back up to my room and grabbed my jacket before running back downstairs, "I'll be back, mom!", I said, running out the back door.

"Okay, but not to late!", I heard her say.

It took me a good ten minutes to find Hermes house, but I found it and I knocked on the door. The door opened and a women with long white hair opened the door wearing a black dress, surprised to see me, "Oh, hello? Who are you?".

"Hey, Rose, it's me, Jaycee.", I said and she looked confused. "Jaycee Russo, I was friends with Hermes when were kids".

"Oh!", she said, nodding. "I remember, why are you here?", she asked.

"I want to know if I could see Hermes.", I told her.

"Eh, well, he's not really home-"

"Mom, is dinner done?", I heard Hermes voice and she winced, cursing under her breath, making me confused. She wasn't happy to see me? I was Hermes friend back in elementary school, I thought she would be eager to see me again.

Unless she knows who I am to.

She stepped aside though to let me in and that's when Hermes was coming down the steps, "Ugh, mom, I asked if dinner was-Jaycee?", he asked, looking surprised to see me in his house.

"Can I talk to you?", I asked, turning sideway when I felt his mom eyes on me, making me feel nervous. "Alone?".

"Uh-um, okay. Lets go up to my room.", he said and his mother breathing hitched I heard with my highten senses, but I followed behind him anyways.

When I got up to his room, I was surprised to see it was very-normal. "What did you expect?", he asked, chuckling. "A wire bed and a big black bowl, conjuring up spells?", he asked and I blushed.

"No!", she said.

"Sure.", he said, then his eyebrows came furrowed and he leaned down towards my face, making my nervous and my eyes widen, remembering a few days ago what happened in the closet. "Jaycee, did you have tooth paste on your face? What's the mint smell?".

"Oh,", she blushed harder. "I was using a facemask.".

"Why?", he asked. "Your skin completely flawless, why do you need a mask?".

I shrugged, "I-I don't know, thought it would be something new to try. My mom keeps some around and I thought I would try some.", I said, but it was because I wanted to try to make myself feel more girly, more famine feeling so around him, I could feel more confident.

Pretty much, I wanted to feel more prettier.

"That's not the point, Hermes.", I said and I felt a weird feeling. I turned a little and heighten my sense, "Uh, Hermes, I think your mom down the hallways, listening on us?".

"What?", he cried out, going over to his door, opening it, and poked his head out. "Mom!".

She didn't say anything, but I did hear her feet run down the staircase.

"She knows what I am, doesn't she?", I asked him and he hesitated, but nodded. "She hates me.", I said, looking down at his carpet, hating myself now. How could I ever think of having Hermes if his own parents hate me?

I smelt something and when I looked down, a black cat came into the foot, looked up at me, and hissed. On instincts, I bared my teeth and growled. I did not like cats, I really didn't. I could feel the feline hatred and wishing I was gone.

"Whoa!", Hermes said, bending down and picked up the cat. "You can't eat him.", he said, not sounding sarcastic.

I rolled my eyes, "Wasn't planning on it.".

The cat bared it fangs and hissed again, "Calm down, Sage, she wont eat you.", his said, bring the cat up to his mouth and scratched behind his ears as he whispered into him. He let the cat down, gave me one last evil look, then walked out of Hermes room. "Thanks for scaring my cat.", he sarcastically said before shutting the door.

"Scared him?", I asked. "He looked totally pissed.".

"He was also, but come on, you are in his turf.", he chuckled.

I rolled my eyes, wanting to forgot about the damn cat, "Anyways, Hermes, something weird happened today. Guess who stopped by my house?".

He shrugged, "Who?".

"Lucinda.", I said and his eyes widen. "It was so weird, she acted like we were the best of friends in front of my mom and she was even nice to me the whole time.".

"Lucinda isn't nice.", he said. "She's manipulating, whatever she told you, was a lie.".

"Oh, so her telling me you never even spoke about me once through the years is a lie?", I asked and he looked away.

A minute later, he looked back with hard eyes, "Sorry, I never thought I would see you again.", he said, walking around me over to his window. "How would I know I would end up moving back here? It was so weird, my father just suddenly came up with the idea."

I wanted to tell him he should know it would be fate, he would have to come back to me, but I didn't want to make thing awkward and him avoiding me again. "Okay, but does she know about me? Have you told her?".

"No.", he said, turning back to face me. "She can find out on her own, she might know but I think she would have done something by now and not try to kill you in your sleep.".

A lump formed in my throat and I swallowed it hard, "O-okay, so right now she's only trying to do something because she knows you...well, whatever it is you feel.", I said, my voice sad at the last part and I couldn't look at him.

It was quiet for a moment, "Look, Jaycee, just keep on wearing the bracelet for now.".

"Why hasn't she left by now?", I asked as I looked up at him again. "Why isn't her parents making her go back?".

"They're scared of her.", he said and I gave him a confused look. He sighed, "Her and her brother are the first six generation in their family, making them stronger than their parents. They're scared of them both, but more of Lucinda.".

"Why is she so crazy about you?", I asked and he scuffed, but grinned. "You know what I mean, Hermes.".

"She's hooked up on black magic.", he said. "Black magic to us is like normies on drugs.".

"Normies?", I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Normal, like normal human beings.", he said, rolling his eyes. "Anyways, like I was saying, it's like she's on drugs. It's making her crazy, she never use to be like this."

"So how do we get her to stop?", I asked.

"It's not that simple.", he said. "She'll never admit it to herself and if she does it any bit longer, she can do anything I wont be able to stop her from what she'll do when she finds out about you.".
