(Chapter Four.)

(Jaycee)

I didn't want to come back school the next day, it felt humiliating being near Hermes after yesterday and I didn't feel like answers Jessica and Louis questions right now. But my parents forced me to go today—even though I almost had my daddy in the palms of my hands after he learned someone broke his baby girl heart, but my darn mother talked him into making me go.

I was putting posters up in my locker since I didn't want to look at the plain ugly thing when I caught a whiff of hair. It smelt just like...well, cookies. As Hermes walk passed me, I turned my head and watched his walk down to his locker. The hood of his jacket was up on his head and when he reached his locker and saw he looked so tired, I knew he knew he looked like crap. Not so handsome today. It looks like he just throw on whatever was closest to him.

I was glad Jessica and Louis weren't around since they had to go somewhere about joining some clubs this year. I wasn't so sure if they was a good idea, but my mom was right. I had to make him see—well, how great I can be. I may not be social with the whole school, but Hermes is not an ordinary guy. He's my mate.

I decided to finish putting poster up later as I closed my locker and played with the bottom of my tank top under my half close flannel shirt as I walked towards him. I couldn't help but think he just smelled like chocolate chip cookies and mint.

He didn't see me coming and when I cleared my throat, his body tensed a little before he turned and looked at me. He half sighed, half groaned and looked back at his phone, “What do you want, Jaycee?”.

I opened my mouth and nothing came out. I don't know really how to start this, so I awkwardly said, “Your mom still making those cookies?”, I asked and he looked at me confused. My cheeks blushed up, “I mean, you know, every one a time a week, your mom would make home made cookies and you would share with me at lunch. It what made the milk gave us worth wild to drink.”.

He pursed his lips, “Strong sense of nose you must have.”, he said and he has no idea. I can smell them in in his bag inside his locker. “I'm not sharing this time, though.”.

I dropped my jaw and gave him a shock look, “Hermes! You always share with me, you know what always happened when you didn't.”, she amusingly said. Whenever he tried not share the six cookies he brought—it begin with just three, but she knows he asked his mom to pack six when she kept eating them—she would pinch him.

“You couldn't try if you wanted to.”, he said, grinning.

“Come on!”, she faked whined. “Your mom were always the best. They were always chewy, now give me one!”.

(Hermes)

I let the grin dropped off my face when I realized I was doing it and looked away from her smiling face. It was bright and happy, it just made her look so beautiful. I can't be around her, I shouldn't even be talking to her. The more I do, the more Lucinda might get in my head and find out about her. It would keep her safe. And even, Jaycee and me would never work. She's a—well, a werewolf for heaven sakes!

“You always did have a nice smile, Hermes.”, she said, my name coming out her voice sounded so beautiful. “Straight white pearly teeth.”.

I closed my locker, “I have to go—”

When I turned, she quickly grabbed my arm, “No, Hermes, wait. I don't understand, why don't you want me around? I'm the same girl you knew back then, your best friend.”.

I turned back around and took my arm out of her hand, “Your the girl you just made it hared for me.”, I said and her lower lip pouted, her eyes widen. She looked hurt and it just made her look like a puppy. “A girl fighting for a boy? How lame.”.

“I just didn't want anyone to pick on you anymore.”, she said. “I got in a lot trouble for you.”.

“I never asked you to.”, he said. He looked around to see if anyone around was be noisy like how this town is and most of the hallways was getting empty cause of classes starting soon. He leaned towards her, “And I don't hang with dogs.”, he said and she looked confused.

I snorted and turned around, but again, she grabbed me but this time by my hand. I thought inside my head a spell and giving her a tiny zap, she gasp and let go of my hand quickly. As I walked away, she said, “What was that?”

(Jaycee)

I was staring at the palm of my hand at lunch, rubbing where I felt the zap. The feeling wasn't there anymore, but it was so—weird. I know I couldn't have imagined it, I just couldn't. I rubbed my palm as I turned my head toward Hermes, where he had a table of groupies with him who was eating his mom cookies. He paid her no attention and she had a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach he knew something about her.

But he couldn't know about her, no one outside the family—wolf or mate, has never told any human. I looked at my hand again.

He knows something, something he isn't telling me, I thought.

“Jaycee!”, Louis said, shaking my shoulder. “Stop spacing out.”.

I looked up at Louis and smiled, “Sorry.”.

Jessica scuffed, “Will anyways, where were you?”, she asked. “Louis and I got worried about you yesterday, we thought new boy killed you or something.”.

Louis rolled his eyes, “She thought that, I just thought you decided to skip like you do when you don't want to be in school. Apparently I was right when I called your house when you weren't picking your phone up and Jessica still haven't given me my twenty dollars.”.

“Will, I'm still alive.”, I said. I sighed, “Guys, I just had some much on my head yesterday. I wanted to go home and I did.”

“But what happened?”, Jessica asked. “He comes back and you just leave because you didn't feel like staying in school?'.

I shrugged, “Yeah.”.

They both groaned and decided to forget it, knowing they weren't going to get anything out of me. It always happened, when it comes to wolf truth, I lie my ass off until they give up. I looked back down at my hand where I felt the zap and rubbed my hand.

When lunch was over, it was time to make it to the three classes I should have been in yesterday. My new teacher—Mrs. Lee—told me to take any seat I wanted. I decided the back was fine—it were I’ll mostly likely be invisible.

I take a seat in my desk and out of boredom, started drawing random doodles on my notebook. I wasn't the best at drawing, but my uncle Darien is. He tried teaching me a few things, but I gave up quickly. So I would stick to the basic smiles, heart, start, write words.

After a moment, I smelt cookies and I paused, lifting my head up to see Hermes come in. He looked straight at me, not looking very happy. He took a seat on the opposite side in the middle row, not giving me a second look.

I stared at him for a moment before I decided it was getting creepy and I stared down at my book.

(Hermes)

I was happy when school ended—not only do I have class with Jaycee, but two! The next class I had with her, but I'm just happy she kept her distance.

I grabbed my book bag and put it one shoulder. I quickly hurried down the hallway before Jaycee could catch me just in case and when I knew I was a good distance away, I normal my pace and lift this damn school. Damn chick been on my mind these last two days, I couldn't even get in a good prank yet. There's always a tomorrow though.

I know one person I have to get. Tony Benish still goes here. He was a chunky kid who liked to make himself feel better by picking on kids like me and he did it very well. He sure slim down these years and even made it to playing in the football team. He sure got popular, but he hasn't even recognize me from third grade and I'm glad, but I think a little longer, he recognize me.

I decided to walk home since taking a crowded load bus full of annoying normies was in no plan of mine.

I was only five minutes away when I heard something sounded like someone was running up towards me. Then I heard her voice and I groaned, “Hermes!”.

I turned around, right when Jaycee came up to me. “What?”, I asked, sounded annoyed. Does this chick not get it? Or does it go in one ear and out the next?

She let her bag go onto the ground, “What did you say this morning?”, she asked and my eyebrows came together. She gave an attitude look, “Don't play dumb, it was right before you somehow magically shocked me. Who are you?”.

I realized what she meant and gave an amused look, “You know who I am, Jaycee.”.

She pursed her lips, looking annoyed, “Seriously, Hermes. What did you mean by 'I don't hang with dogs'? Do I look like a dog or something?”.

I shrugged, “No. Jaycee, don't think your people are still the only ones left in this world.”, I said.

“My people?”, she questioned, her perfectly arch eyebrows coming together. “And how'd you zap me like it...”, she trailed off, her mouth making a straight line. It took her a minute before her eyes widen, “You know?”.

“Well, it was my people who did it to your people.”, I shrugged, turning half way around when she grabbed my shirt roughly.

“You’re a witch?”, she growled out, looking sweet and innocent anymore.

“No.”, I said, looking at her. “I'm a warlock, it what we call us males.”.

“You're a witch!?”, she repeated, growling again. “How in hell is that possible?”. She begin stomping her feet, “No! No! NO! This is all wrong!”.

“Trust me, it wasn't all great for me either.”, I said. “Now let go of my arm, Jaycee, your squeezing my arm.”.

She quickly let of me and sighed, “Who on earth would pair me up with you of all people?”, she asked, sounding more like she was asking herself that. “It was your people who did this to my family.”, she barked as she looked up at me.

“Ah, technically, it was only three witches.”, I said. “And it was your family fault.”, I said, walking away.

She walked behind me, “My family fault?”, she questioned. “How do you even know the story?”.

“You don't think witches don't know about the family who could change into 'monster'?”, I said, chuckling. “Wolves were consider really dangerous back then. Apparently the three witches back then were suppose to make him become one forever to never go back to their human form, living dangerously and bloodthirsty, but since they weren't strong like we are today, your kind can change back and have self control.”, I said, snorting.

“Juan was only doing his job.”, she said.

I snorted again, “He beat the crap out of them. If it was me, I would have took revenge to.”.

“They cursed his whole family though!”, she said. “We shouldn't of had to take the blame.”.

“Shit happens.”, I said. “And don't act like you don't like being a dog.”.

“I'm a wolf, not a dog. We're much stronger.”, she said. “And yes, I do love it, but it doesn't count. Your people created us out of revenge.”.

“Yes and we were once actually considered to make you do our bidden.”, I said.

“Hermes!”, she growled, yanking me to look at her. Her eyes were black as coil, “Hermes, this is serious. Your my—your my—“

“Don't call me that.”, I hissed. “No I’m not.”.

“You can deny it all you want, but it's true!”, she said. “Probably another mistake from your people caused when the spell happened, but it's true.”.

“We could never be together if it was true anyways.”, he said.

“Why not?”, she asked. I saw she was trying to be tough and act strong, but I knew it was also killing her inside by looking into her beautiful light brown eyes.

“Cause I don't want to be with you.”, I told her and she was trying so much harder to hold back the tears forming in her eyes. “We're two different people in so many ways.”.

“We could make it work though.”, she said, almost begging. “I could get over you being a witch and you could get over that I'm a werewolf.”.

“No, Jaycee. It wouldn't work, we're so different. Do you know what it would be like for me if my people found out I'm a with a werewolf?”, I asked her, seeing the walls break down and she wanted to cry. I felt guilty, I did, but I was only speaking the truth. It wouldn't work, my family would hate me and family is everything to me.

“If was your people who did this though!”, she said. “We have to be together because of them!”.

“No, don't blame every witch for threes mistake.”, I told her. “I'm sorry, Jaycee, I don't want to hurt you, but it's just not meant to be.”.

She raised her chin, giving me a hard look, “Apparently it is if your my mate.”, she said.

She pushed me out of the way and ran towards a different towards the woods where I felt she might be going.

(Jaycee)

I threw my bag down onto the dirt ground and stripped out of my cloths. I had tears streaming down my faces as I did and I changed into my brown wolf. I hit the ground on four paws and dug my nails into the dirt before I jetted off.

I don't how long I ran for, I even probably cross Vermont state lines, but I had so much on my mind. I knew I had to get back soon since the sun was setting. My parents knew I like to run after school, but they always wanted me back at eight.

When I knew no one was around the area, I stopped and laid down, whining. I howled finally, letting all the feelings go out of my. As I began to stop howling, I turned back into a human and turned on my back, staring up at the orange color sky.

A witch—well, warlock—of all people I had to end up. I never even heard of that happening. Could it really even happen? I only ever saw humans with werewolf. It was so strange, but why'd it happen to me? I mean, if it happened to me, it had to of happen to other people, right?, I thought.

I don't care what Hermes say, we belong together and that's what I ensure happens. I wont be depressed my whole life. Hermes Robinson will fall in love with me and I wont let anyone stop me.
