(Chapter Fifteen.)

I didn’t know what I planned when I walked into the hallway of my school when I went to go find Lucinda. I was hoping to grab her by her perfect long blonde hair, grab a pair of scissors, and cut it all off. What would you do if had caught a fleas and had your mother pick the ticks out—which I may add is more painful than it sounds.

I went up to her locker though and pulled her away from it, slamming it close, grabbing some attention around. I gave them all looks to mind their business and they did. Lucinda just grinned, “Jaycee, what is it?”, she asked so innocently.

“Quit it.”, I said. “I know what your doing, Lucinda”

She reached up and rubbed my arm, “You couldn’t keep it a secret for to long, pup.”, she said and it wasn’t much of a surprise to me that she knows. If one touch could make Hermes find out, what makes her any different? “How’d you enjoy you bath last night? I see your not scratching your head anymore.”.

“Leave me alone.”, I warned, my voice hard. “And leave my friends alone, they didn’t do anything to you and neither have I.”

She gave me a dangerous look only a witch could look to make goose bumps go up my arm, “I want Hermes back.”, she said

I pressed my lips angrily together and held my tongue before I could say all the things I want to say, “Lay off the black magic.”, I said, walking passed her, making my shoulder bump into hers as I did.

I felt a rush of cold hair blowing my hair forward and I turned my head around, her blue eyes star back at me dangerously, giving me a warning look but said nothing. I turned my head back around and continued over to my class—with her brother.

                . . .

After school, Hermes had dragged me up across town where the other part of the woods are. I was very confused cause he wouldn’t tell me and it made me a little nervous. We came up to an hold house—much of Nash houses are hold, but this one looked like it should be torn down. No one lived in there, it had been up for sell for the last eight years.

Hermes dragged me to the back of the house and opened the long wooden gate, that’s when I finally asked him, “What are we doing here?”, I asked, hesitantly stepping through the gate. I stepped back out and brought one of my hands up to my mouth to chew on my nails.

I felt something—something like as if there was someone standing behind me, making the hair on the back of my neck stand. It was a scary feeing, but it sure made me nervous.

“No.”, I said, feeling some kind of vib. I wasn’t sure if it was good or not.

Hermes reached out and grabbed my arm, snatching me in, “It’s alright.”, he said.

He walked up to the porch of the backyard and I looked around, “Why’d you bring me here—oh!” I said, blushing up and smiled. “We’re alone…no one around. Is that why you brought my here, to be alone?”, I teased just to make the nervousness go away.

Hermes turned his head around and chuckled, “What?”.

I turned around and brought one of my hands up in the air, “You don’t have to make up any excuses, Hermes.”

“What kind of guy do you think I am?”, he asked, chuckling. “I’m more classier, I would never bring a girl to a abandon house and defiantly not to do anything your thinking of.”.

I turned around and chuckled, “So why’d you bring me to this dump?”, I asked and suddenly, I felt to pair of hands behind my pack and push me forward. I gasped, turning around quickly, hunching forward as if I was my wolf ready to attack, “Who’s there?”, I asked and realized no one was there. I straight up, “What?”

“Don’t insult their home, Jaycee.”, Hermes said.

                I turned around confused, “What?”

“This house is a hundred and seventy five years old and it belonged to a witch family who owned the house for many generations.”, he said and my eyes widen. “Some of the family members ghost stuck around and their not to happy your here, so I wouldn’t insult their home.”

“Your being serious, right?”, I asked and he nodded. Well, there are witches and werewolves around, so why not ghost? I quickly believed and I looked around awkward, “My bad.”, I said and Hermes chuckled, making me hit him. “You were joking!”, I said, groaning.

“No, I was actually telling the truth.”, he said. “Just the way you said it was funny.”,

                I hit him again, “Jerk.”,

He quickly grabbed my hand and said a few words in Latin. My eyebrows came together but I saw what he was trying to do. A dozen figures or so appeared around us in a blue color or something. I gasped and looked around, not believe I was seeing ghost of different witches who once lived in this house. I looked at girl who was no more than seven or eight and felt so bad for her, dying at such a age.

Hermes let go of my arm and I looked at him, “If they’re not happy I here, why did they let me come in and not—I don’t know, destroy something?”

“Because your with me.”, he said and he quickly caught himself. He cleared his throat, “By that, they don’t see you as any harm since you’re here with me.”

“Well why are we here?”, I asked.

He hesitated and looked down at the ground for a moment before looking up at me, “I like seeing you do magic, Jaycee.”, he admitted. “It makes me feel normal about everything—between us.”

“We’re not normal.”, I had to say. I was no good at things being awkward and I always end up saying something stupid. “I’m not normal at least.”

“I thought you weren’t either at first.”, he said before grinning. “Until I realized you were that same third grader.”

I playfully hit his arm and smiled, “Ha-ha.”.

“If we’re at a location where many powerful witches did a lot of magic out, you could do stronger better stuff. I felt it when I was walking home yesterday, I could feel the magic coming of the house. See how easy it was to see them, for me being young, it would have took a lot more effort but you being a werewolf is magic enough to help me see them as if I was a fifth generationer.”, he said and I felt all warmed up by the way he was just looking at me with such—pride? Love? Confidence? I’m not sure really but I liked it.

“Watch.”, he said as he took my hands and whispered some words. I didn’t look away from his and I was waiting for something to happen, but I wasn’t sure what I was suppose to be watching. He took one hand away and reached up, pulling some of my hair up and my dark red hair was now a dark maroon color.

I took a deep breath hair and touched it, “Oh, my God.”, I said in amazement. “My mom would love this trick.”

“No trick, just magic.”, he said. “I kind of had a thing for red heads.”, he grinned and I pursed my lips up at him.

“Oh really, I thought blondes were.”, I sarcastically said.

“No, I have a thing for blue eyes.”, he said.

“But I don’t have blue eyes.”, I pointed out.

He raised an eyebrow, “Are you so sure about that?”, he asked and I gave him a confused look before realizing what he meant.

I huffed and hit him, “Change them back!”, I said as I chuckled. “I perfect the way I am.”

He snapped his fingers, “Your right, you are.”, he said and I blushed, but looked down at my hair and my hair was back to it’s normal dark brown. I looked up at him and looked at his hair, puring my lips and hummed, reaching up and ran my hands through his hair, imaging his locks black.

“Eh, they must not be giving me their mojo.”, I said.

“Your only a first generationer.”, he said.

I rolled my eyes and took his hands, “Come on, I want to do more henna stuff.”, I said. “On you.”

He chuckled while shaking his head, “No, you would come up with some wolf related thing and my mom would freak. I can’t go home to pick Isabelle for the carnival covered in your markings.”.

“But their fun to do.”, I smirked. “Let mommy see them so she knows her spirits did them.”.

“You really want to give her a heart attack?”, he asked. “Here, I have something better. Think of flowers around the garden alive and blooming.”

I smiled and closed my eyes, “Okay.”

“Chant what I’m saying.”, he said and I did my best to repeat his Latin as I imagined a garden full of roses of different colors, lilies, and daisies. A moment passed, “Open them.”, he said and I did.

I gasped as I looked around—all along the fences were buses of roses, lilies high and beautiful in the air, and daisies all different around, making the vacant lonely backyard look alive and beautiful.

Hermes leaned closer to my ear, “Emilia likes it.”, he said, his breath tickling me but made me froze in place and I looked at him confused. “She’s the youngest here, you saw her.”, he said and I knew who he was talking about. “She did eighties years ago, but her favorite things were taking care of her flowers.”, he softly said and all the ghost suddenly appeared around us.

I only had to look forward to see the ghost looking around the garden with a smile on her face.

“After her niece lost the house and new families would come in, she would be so excited for spring, scaring the family so they left, leaving her alone with an empty garden.”, he said and I felt bad for the poor girl. The only thing that was keeping her happy through the years were the flowers and since no one been here, she hasn’t had happiness for a long time.

It brought tears to my eyes.

The little girl looked at me and said something, but I couldn’t hear here. “She says thank you and hope you’ll come back every few month to grow some more.”, he said and I quickly smile, nodding my head, making her smile brightly before looking back at the lilies. “She also said she likes you for being what you are.”

Well at least somebody does, I thought to myself.

They were gone though and before I looked at Hermes, I felt his mouth next to my ear close to my right temple. I breathed in hard as I tried to control my emotions. He put his hands on my waist to turn my around and I quickly kissed him.

I don’t know how we ended up kissing or why, but I didn’t mind at all. And I didn’t care that I was making out with Hermes with a bunch of ghost I’m sure are still around.
