*I'm not the type of girl for you
And I'm not going to pretend
I'm the type of girl you call more than a friend
And I break all the rules for you
Break my heart and start again*

Deep breaths, I told myself. Just another two years of high school and this will all be over. I will officially be off to college, get a whole new start and have a chance at the stuff that didn't really appeal to me my teenage years.
I roll my eyes at myself standing in front of the mirror, realizing that I was talking to myself, again. My leggings stuck to my sturdy legs and I cringed at my outfit choice. Maybe I should have worn jeans instead of this polka dotted black dress.
"Azari!" I heard my little brother call from down the stairs. "Mom says you need to get your ass out of bed and get ready for school!"
"I am ready!" I shout back. And take one last look at myself in the mirror before descending down the stairs. To be honest, I had nothing special going on in my family. Just a very regular household, with a mom who is a housewife and my dad working as a consultant for a private firm.
The smell of pancakes and scrambled eggs fills the air as I walk into the kitchen to find my brother helping mom for the very first time, setting the table. My dad sat at the table scrolling through his phone and he didn't even look up when I greeted him, planting a kiss on his cheek.
"Morning, dad. Morning, mum," I said and made my way to mom to kiss her too while she placed the last batch of pancakes on a plate.
"Morning, sweetheart," Mom replied wiping her hands on her apron.
"You could give me a morning kiss too, you know," Noah, my brother, joked puckering up his lips and I grimaced.
"Sorry, I don't want to catch a... a flu from you," I shot back but taking my time to think of a reply.
He rolled his eyes. "Real original sis!"
"Okay now you too," Mom took off her apron placing it on the kitchen counter and sat down at the table while Noah and I followed. Dad cleared his throat and finally put his phone down acknowledging his family.
I quickly grabbed some pancakes and drizzled some honey onto them.
"So son," Dad started with one his pep talks. "First day of high school. Don't be too nervous, you will have your big sister to show you around."
"I am not showing him around," I scoffed and Mom frowned at me.
"Now come on Azari," Dad continued while Noah nodded to him and smirked at me. Ugh, Mom and Dad did not understand why I couldn't.
"Also, you're driving him to school," Mom added making both of us groan.
"No way," Noah quickly remarked. "I asked Connor to pick me up with his older brother."
"But what's wrong with going with your sister?" Dad argued, knowingly that it was useless to argue with my brother who always did what he wanted to.
"Can we all just have a nice, quiet breakfast for once?" Mum sighed and that shut everyone up.
That is how normally our breakfast went. And as much as it was annoying to me, I wouldn't have it any other way.
My phone pinged as soon as I was done with my breakfast to see a text from my best friend, and probably my only friend, Lana Conway.
You picking me up or nah? x
I smiled and quickly texted back saying I was grabbing my bag from one hand. Noah followed as we both stepped out the front door.
"Heeeyyyy!" He ran off running towards a black bmw parked in front of our house and I could only see Noah's friend Connor Clay on the front seat. I wanted to see who was sitting on the driving seat but I couldn't make out his face, whoever was his older brother.
"Woah, your sister's hot Noah," Connor called out smirking at me.
"You're disgusting, Connor," I rolled my eyes and he snickered. God, I hated Noah's friends.
Noah didn't even bother acknowledging and jumped into the back off the car, and within seconds they drove off to school. Oh well, I just had to pick Lana from two blocks away and I could be at school on time. It was 7:15 and the first period didn't start until 8 so I had enough time.
As I got behind the driving wheel, I took a look at myself in the rear view mirror. Breathe Azari. It's junior year, the same as the previous years, you'll be okay.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ugh, it's so hot man!" Lana complained taking off her blazer and showing off her gorgeous, new crop top. She had the perfect body, she was pretty, quirky and boys were crazy about her. We walked into the school halls to see WELCOME BACK banners hanging around everywhere. "How come you dont feel hot in your leather jacket, Azari."
I shrugged as we both made our way towards our lockers for the first day. "I guess I like wearing a lot of clothing."
"You're weird," Lana said as she opened her locker which was exactly next to mine luckily. "You should show off your body more."
Ugh, there she was at it again. "If had one like yours then maybe I would have." Placing just a few books from my bag into my locker, I shut the door, whereas Lana dumped literally everything in there except her phone.
"So what if you're a little thick?" she scoffed and I looked down at my over sized jacket. Maybe she was right that I wasn't too thick, but I wasn't exactly in shape either. I wore two sizes larger than my actual size because I didn't want anyone noticing that I wasn't skinny like the rest of the girls at school. That would be setting a bullseye on my face for bullying and I was happy staying low.
"I guess," I smiled at her and just hoped she wouldn't talk about this again. Lana linked her arm into mine, practically dragging me with her to class. As soon as we both entered class, I froze.
There he was sitting on the last bench with his earphones on while being immersed in his phone. Travis Jordan is the guy I have had a crush since middle school and I just can't seem to ever get over it even though I have never even talked to him.
"Ohhh," Lana cooed in my ear. "This is your chance, girl. Go sit next to him."
"Are you crazy, Lana?" I stuttered. "I have never even talked to him before."
"Jeez," Lana rolled her eyes and pulled me by my arm to the back of the classroom and pushed me down into the seat next to Travis. He didn't even notice, or look up from his phone. Lana winked and took a seat in front of me.
"I hate you," I whispered to her and she chuckled in reply.
"Aw, come on. You love me." She was right, I did love her but I was definitely going to forgive her for this.
I turned my head to study Travis's face. His skin seemed tanned from over the summer. That jawline was flawless and I could have sworn that it had been chiselled by Michangelo himself. I quickly made a note to myself in my head to never ever say that out loud to anyone. Travis looked a little different as I noticed realized his right earlobe was pierced and he wore a black stud in it. His outfit being black completely, slightly bothered me but I was soon forced to forget about it when he turned his head towards me.
His gray eyes met mine and I flushed. Cracking his fingers, he opened his mouth, "Quit staring at me."
Ladies and gentleman, I officially melted into an ooey gooey pile of embarrassment wishing I could just disappeared.
