Chapter 1

MEETING AT THE WRONG TIME
———
July 7, 2010
It's the first day of school for the second semester and I'm not even looking forward to it. I just want to stay at home.
"Andy! Wake up or you'll be late! I'm not letting you ride my bike!" Noa, my older brother, shouted at me as usual like he's my nagging mother.
"Five more minutes, please?!" I begged him.
I literally prefer to stay on my bed than walk outside.
"No!"
But he actually let me because my family—the Kurosaki family, is overprotective of me due to a traumatic incident I was involved in.
Noa Kurosaki is my older brother. He's nineteen, cool, reserved, hardworking and teases me a lot! People reckon he's good-looking so maybe he is. Or maybe they got bad eyesight. I prefer to believe that the latter is true.
My name name is Andrielle Kurosaki but it sounds like a guy's name so I prefer others to call me 'Andy'.
Why? No particular reason. I just like it. I mean, we all got our own preferences and that is mine.
Actually, this is my first time going to school because of that incident I mentioned before the first semester started.
One night, an escaped prisoner entered our house and at that time, everybody was asleep, but not me.
I heard noises from the living room so I silently walk downstairs and saw him—about ssi-foot tall, broad shoulders, and a long scar on his right cheek. He was wearing the orange shirt with the big P behind since he was a prisoner. But I don't know if all prisoners wear orange.
The man panicked seeing me and he pointed his gun towards my direction.
"You!" He screamed. "Give me your phone!" My heart took a crazy turn and decided to beat like a madman.
'Wait! He's demanding only the phone? Like who cares!' I thought.
I was so scared that that man is giving me the creeps! I had to do something but my mind had also gone blank!
"Mom! Noa! Help me!" I shouted.
"Shut it!" The man demanded to me still pointing the gun at me.
"What's up sis?" I heard Noa going down the stairs.
I turned to look at him going down but a loud 'bang' echoed in the room. The next thing I knew was that I was lying on the carpet floor. The carpet was warm yet wet... And I was the cause of it.
'Is it blood? Is this still reality? Someone please...' I thought as my vision started going blurry.
I just recognized that man's shadow left through the window. I guess he also use the same spot for entering. I didn't know what happened after that since I lost consciousness.
When I woke up, mom told me that I was unconscious for a month and a half. I was shot in my left thigh and it was quite fatal due to the immense blood loss. The doctors told me that I won't be able to attend school that time for rehab and thank God I finished rehab successfully within four months, with them warning me not to over exert myself in physical activities.
Unfortunately, even after four months, there has been no news about the man who almost killed me.
But going back to the present time, once I finished getting ready, Noa got his bike and I sat at the back holding on his shirt. I hope my first day will be great!
Noa and I arrived at school. He brought me to the teacher's room and left to go to his class. Many students were looking at us or maybe just to him. He's the 'good-looking' Noa after all. I'd probably end up toasted if I mutter something against him.
I belong to class 1-A.
Crap! I'm getting butterflies in my stomach! My nervousness is getting on my nerves and I'm getting scared by the second.
"Relax and breathe, Andy," Ms. Umi, the homeroom teacher, told me. She's pretty, slim, fashionable, very fair skin, rosy cheeks, and has green eyes which I find very interesting. I've read somewhere before that there's only a small population of people who have green eyes. I've got almond-colour while Noa and my family have blue.
"Thanks. I'll try my best," I answered politely.
Ms. Umi took me to the room. My heart was thumping wildly. 'Well, it's not like I'm sentenced to court or something! I have t relax!' I continually repeat to myself.
Ms. Umi entered first. I followed as she introduced me to the class.
"Everyone, she's Andrielle Kurosaki and she's the student who wasn't able to attend first semester. Be nice to her."
"Hi, I'm Andrielle Kurosaki. Call me Andy, please take care of me!" I exclaimed.
Everyone's faces were smiling... except for this guy who caught my eyes sitting at the back of the room.
He had silky golden-black hair. A serious yet beautiful expressionless face of a guy I had never seen before. And his eyes were locked outside the windows. He's obviously uninterested about everything happening right now. But one thing's for sure... He was truly captivating.
"Let's see... You can sit at the back for now, Andy. Sit beside Jun," said Ms. Umi pointing to the guy I was staring at. I proceeded to my new seat—beside the window. I like it.
"Hi there." I greeted to the golden-black-haired guy the teacher called as "Jun" but he didn't even move!
'This is frustrating! He didn't eve turn to reply!' Even my head was pissing me off.
He suddenly turned to grab his book and started reading like it was even part of the discussion!
I turned my face away so whether he's really reading or not IS none of my business.
'Jun... Jun...' There was a ring on that name. Maybe it's a common name I heard before.
Who knows.
'Is it his name? He's.... dazzling, I suppose...' I continued thinking about the stranger I'm sitting beside with.
Taking a glimpse of him, I was mesmerized. His eyes were shiny and very weird in colour, his fringe flown smoothly to his cheeks. He's a perfect picture.
'What is he? Not even Noa's feature could be that perfect!' Did I just admit that Noa's good-looking? Pretty sure I didn't. Again, my own thoughts were playing with me.
The first two subjects finished, it was break time. Jun left his seat in a flash and a girl with blonde hair approached me.
"Uhm... You're Andy, right? Can I join you for lunch later on?" She squeaked and I find it cute in a way. She seems nice.
"Ah, sure, and you are?"
"The name's Elli, see you later!" And she left. Just like that.
'What was that?' I thought, 'was she making friends with me? Oh great! I'm happy that finally SOMEONE talked to me!' I thought thinking of Jun's attitude towards me.
When break time ended, Jun returned. I recognised that he had something on his cheek.
How should I describe it? He had a velvet red taint on his left cheeks.
"Hey there, Jun," I called out sarcastically. He just sat down ignoring me again. I might try again to be friendly. I grabbed my handkerchief and gave it to him. "There's something on your cheeks, wipe it".
He FINALLY looked at me! But he seemed confused.
I reached out to his face to wipe it. He didn't twitch or move away but only stared at me with his pretty golden dark eyes which made me gulped.
After wiping it, my index finger slipped and accidentally I felt Jun's temperature. He was colder than the ice my family had in our freezer. I'm really confused and fascinated at the same time.
"Annoying." He whispered but I heard it clearly.
"I'm sorry" I answered putting my handkerchief down and facing the board.
Crap! I already made a first bad impression but at least no one was looking at us. Thank goodness.
I want lunchtime to arrive A.S.A.P.! I might flinch right now! I'm feeling something heavy is on my head, literally! It's like I am carrying a hundred tons! Although I may just be exaggerating to describe it.
I jolted back to my original sitting position for the fear that Jun saw me and he didn't.
Thank goodness!
'What was that feeling? I never experienced that before! Is someone trying to bully me?' But checking my head, I believe that nothing was wrong so I just listened back to what the teacher was explaining—but nothing actually entered my head.
I'll just think about this stuff when I get home.
