Chapter Three

"I'll get it!" I yell, running to the front door. Opening it, I was expecting the pizza man but instead a nerd was at my doorstep. I lean on the door frame and narrow my eyes as I study his apologetic looking face. "Why are you here?"

"I was wondering if we could talk?" Daniel asks me, looking at me hopeful. I sigh and slip on some shoes and grab a coat. I can't believe I was doing this but I kinda just wanna head what he has to say.

"Daddy, I'm going to the store for some chips and salsa! Want anything?" I ask, grabbing my keys.

"Rootbeer!" Daddy yells back, watching The Backyardigans with Ashton and Mitchell. I nod and close the door, walking in front of Daniel to the sidewalk.

"You coming?" I ask, looking back at him. He nods and jogs over to me. "Why didn't you just text?"

"I thought this was more of a face to face type of talk than a text talk." He admits, shoving his hands in his pockets. The cold brittle air nipped at my nose and ears as we walked down the sidewalk. "I wanted to apologize."

"What?" I ask, stopping in my tracks. Did I just hear him right?

"I wanted to say I'm sorry but I don't think sorry can even makeup for how I acted. I just... I thought that you lost a bet or felt bad for me. I didn't really think you liked me. I mean, I know we've worked on some labs and partner work in classes we've had together and talked somewhat a couple of times but I really didn't even think you knew who I was." He explains, looking at his shoes. His face was completely red but I couldn't tell if it was embarrassment or the cold.

"Why would you think that?" I asked him. I really didn't know how to feel.

"Because-because you're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. And when we did have conversations, I don't think I was really as smooth as I could've been. And I'm way out of your league." He says, shaking his head. I chuckle and smile at him.

"True, you aren't smooth at all. But, that doesn't mean I can't like you. I really enjoyed when we would talk or work together. I used to get butterflies in my tummy to be honest. Plus, it helps if I've been harbouring a crush since September." I admit to him, feeling my cheeks get warm with embarrassment. He looks up at me after I finish and furrows his eyebrows.

"A crush on me?" He asks me, astonished. I nod, feeling the rest of my face get hot as he smiles at me. "God, I feel even worse for what I said to you a few days ago."

"It's ok. Don't worry about it. I think we evened it out when my brother almost pummeled you." I tell him, feeling bad about what Mitch did. But after school that day, I made Mitch apologize to him. "But, I like you Daniel."

"Really?" He asks me, still shocked by my confession. I laugh as he scratches his head looking at me like I'm crazy. "Me?"

"Yes, dork." I mock him, shaking my head while chuckling. I take the opportunity to take his hand. I intertwine our fingers for another go at this hand holding thing. This time though he smiles and squeezes my hand in his for a second, assuring me it was ok. We head to the gas station and I pick up some chips and salsa for the game then we walk back to my house, hand in hand. We talked about our friends, school and he even told me to call him Danny instead of Daniel.

"So, do you wanna try out this date thing again?" I ask him, standing in the driveway. He nods and smiles at me as I smile back.

"Let's try dinner this time." He says, letting go of my hand. I nod as he digs into his pocket for his car keys.

"I'm really glad you came by, Danny." I tell him, looking at the ground. There was a bunch of leaves on the ground, the late fall wind whisking them around the ground. "I really like you." I mumble, kicking at some of the leaves.

"I li-like you too." He replies, his face turning red again. Before he can say anything else, I grab at his shirt collar and pull his head down to mine. I place my lips on his, feeling him tense up but melt into it for a second before stepping away.

"Too fast?" I ask, feeling a bit disappointed. He nods and looks at me, an unclear emotion on his face. I hold out my hand, smiling sadly. "Well, text me later and we can talk about dinner?"

"Sure." He agrees, shaking my hand. He smiles at me and gets into the black car at the end of the driveway. After he drives off, I go inside the house. I throw the chips and salsa at daddy who was still on the couch with Mitch and Ash. I sit on the recliner and sigh in happiness. He likes me!

*********

"Why must you like him?" Tasha groans, shaking. Her head as I wave at Danny.

"Shut the f up T. Like you haven't liked a loser before?" Henry snaps at her, making me smile but then frown at the loser part.

"He isn't a loser, he's adorable and a smarty pants. So shut up. You guys are the losers."

"Hi, Danny." I greet him, sitting in front of him in study hall.

"Hi, Luna." He replies, smiling at me. I look at the book he's reading, Pride and Prejudice.

"So, there's a party tonight at Asher Tran's house, Wanna go with me?" I question, looking at him pleadingly.

"Will I be welcome?" He asks. I laugh and nod.

"It's a party for the whole school, nerds who read big ass books included." I tell him, pointing to the huge book in his hands. He laughs, telling me he'll go.

"Luna!" Tasha screams my name from the doorway to the classroom. I groan and turn to her, watching her point to the ground and stomp, commanding me to go over to her.

"I'll talk to you during lunch." I assure him, getting up and making my way to the tanned beauty. "You called master?"

"So funny." Tasha dryly laughs, looking at me like I was in trouble. "Why are you talking to that asshole?"

"He apologized and I accepted it and now we're going to Asher's party so don't try to lecture me." I tell her, smiling at the thought of our date tonight.

"Well that would've been awesome to have told me that last night." She whines as we walk out of the room into the hallway.

"I was but then the game was on and during it, Ash had to go to bed but wouldn't so I spent the night reading him stories and fell asleep in his room." I explain, still feeling tired from reading all night. "If I ever have to see that stupid Goldilocks book, I'm gonna shoot myself."

"Alright, you're off the hook. How is the little man?" She asks. I get out my phone and open my photo gallery. She takes my phone and looks at the picture I took last night or Ash in his new TMNT pjs she got him. "Oh my god! He's so adorable! I knew he'd love them!" She squeals, smiling from ear to ear.

"He said they were his new favorite jammies." She laughs in happiness. Then I spend the rest of the period telling her about how he got his head stuck in the arm hole and I spent 20 minutes getting him out of them.

***********

"Ready?" I ask Danny as we approach the door. He shakes his head, looking absolutely horrified. I laugh and drag him into the house, the music so loud I can barely hear myself think. Strobe lights were everywhere, cups all over the place and sweaty bodies rubbing on each other. I lead Danny into another room that was less crowded. It had a pool table and a big entertainment set. About twenty people were in here, one in particular.

"Hi Lulu!" Tash says, bubbly as ever. I laugh looking at her slutty dress and smelling the alcohol emitting from her body. "Hi nerd!"

"Where's Henry?!" I yell over the music to her. She laughs and points towards the kitchen. I could see Henry flirting with Treyvon Curtis, our school's star pitcher. I shake my head as Tash hugs me/

"Marco broke up with me!" She cries, burying her head into my shoulder. I scuff, already having fueled so much hatred for him. He was a fucking ass and she didn't deserve the shit he put her through.

"It's okay, babe. He's an ass anyways. We'll find you someone better." I assure her, rubbing her back. Danny stands next to me looking really uncomfortable.

"Spin the bottle!" Someone yells and everyone in the room starts chanting it. Henry and Trey make their way into the room, Trey holding an empty beer bottle. He puts it on the pool table and we all gravitate to it, standing in a circle.

"You up for this?" I ask Danny. He nods, standing next to me. I nod and hope he is telling me the truth.

"I'll go first!" Tasha yells, spinning it. It lands on Cash Michaels and she legit climbs the table to make her way to him. He laughs and kisses her, shaking his head at her craziness.

"She's a bad drunk." I whisper to Danny, making him laugh. Cash spins the bottle as more people start coming into the room to watch. It lands on on an unfamiliar girl. They kiss and it continues going for a few rounds until Cassidy Williams lands on Henry. She bursts out laughing, turning to Henry. She puckers her lips but Henry grabs her by the waist and kisses the hell out of her.

"More like Seven Minutes in Heaven! Go Henry!" Cash yells, making everyone laugh and cheer. Henry bows at the people cheering him on and spins the bottle, landing on me.

"Luna, I love you but I have a one girl kiss a night rule, but I'll make an exception." He winks at me, giving me a short peck. I laugh and stick my tongue out at him.

"I made it!" I yell, sticking my fist in the air. Everyone cheers and I spin, landing on Danny. Now's my chance. If I was in an anime, my eyes would be two big hearts bulging off my face. I thank God for a second and close my eyes, leaning in for my kiss. I feel his warm lips on mine and before I can even try anything, he pulls away. I open my eyes to see his eyes wide, like a deer in headlights. He gets up and walks out of the room. My jaw drops and I sit there in shock for a second. My common sense kicks in and I get up and run after him. I find him outside just standing in front of the house.

"You okay?" I ask him, getting him to turn around. He nods, not really convincing me. "Walk me home." I say, grabbing his hand and leading him to the sidewalk. My house was about ten blocks from Asher's house and the whole ten blocks was walked in silence. Very awkward silence. We finally get to the porch and I hold out my hand for a handshake. "Goodnight Danny, text me when you get home." I say, waiting for his hand. His face was mixed with emotions, he wasn't even looking at me. I turn to open the door when he speaks up.

"Luna." I hear him say. Turning around, I find him really up close to me. He grabs me by my waist and pulls me in, landing a big fat kiss on my lips. Initially I was shocked but as he moved his lips, I melted into the kiss. His lips were so soft, and he was so good at kissi- is that his tongue?! We stood there for what felt like hours, enveloped in this kiss. Finally he pulled away, leaving me dazed in his embrace. Finally coming to, I hit him softly in the shoulder.

"What the hell was that?!" I yell, looking at him in complete shock. He smiles like a little kid who just got caught.

"Just, after tonight I couldn't wait any longer. I just got so mad after you kissed that guy that-"

"You got jealous over Henry?" I ask in a fit of laughter. "You have no need to get jealous of Henry."

"Why?"

"He's gay!" I chuckle, trying to compose myself. He raises his eyebrow and shakes his head.

"Oh."

"Wait, you said you were waiting? Waiting for what?" I ask, focusing on what he just said. He looks at the ground sways his body a little.

"You're just so, so perfect at everything and I didn't know if I'd be good at kissing to you and I just, just got worried you wouldn't like kissing me." He admits, looking flustered. I blush at the perfect part. He's so sweet and shy.

"I like you. I like kissing you." I say, walking up to him and wrapping my arms around his neck. "You're really good at kissing."

"Thanks?" He laughs, looking at me. His emerald eyes reeling me in. My lips gravitate towards his and I kiss him gently, pulling apart after a few seconds.

"Who taught you how to kiss?" I as him, my eyes still closed from our cute, short kiss.

"Regina." He says, my eyes popping open. I forgot about that slut.

"Oh, yeah. You dated her, didn't you?"

"Yeah."

"Oh, I have to get inside. It's past my curfew." I lie, taking out my phone and glancing at the time. He nods and starts walking to the driveway and gets in his car he left her before the party. I wave goodbye and stomp into the house, screaming at the top of my lungs and slamming the door.

"What happened?" Daddy yells, running downstairs in kitten boxers with a half his face covered in shaving cream and a razor in his hand. Mitch walks to the top of the staircase in his bunny slippers and pj pants and marker on his face.

"Boys suck. All men suck. Do you not think before you speak?!" I yell, making my way up the stairs. Ash runs out of Mitch's room with a marker in his hand and jumps into my arms.

"Lookie! Art, mommy!" He joyously cheers, pointing to Mitch's face.

"Apparently you don't think before you do things either." I scuff, looking at the mess that is my brother's face. Taking Ash into his room, i lay down with him until both of us fall asleep.
