Chapter 9. Protected
Alya's POV
Trixx still wasn't giving me any advice about how to be a great hero. My second transformation was absolutely horrible. Before I realized it, a truck at storming in my direction, the head lights blinking right at me.
If you're going to ask me how I jumped over the ten feet long truck, first off, I didn't.
Someone yanked me off of my feet a moment before the truck collided into me and in the process, slammed me into someone's warm arms.
"Get off, vixen," breathed a familiar voice.
I breathed in some heavily-scented cologne before crawling off my living cushion. When I saw who I had crashed into, I fake-gagged, collapsing on someone's roof top.
"Oops, sorry!" Chat noir cried from the other rooftop, expertly swinging his baton around. "Wrong target!"
"You did that on purpose!" Jade Turtle yelled right beside me.
"You put too much cologne!" I screamed at his face, flinging my flute in his direction.
Jade Turtle's silhouette was illuminated by the setting sun. The red glow on his face looked really cool as he craned his neck to face me. His eyes sparkled in the gloom. "You either put really bad perfume or you sweat stink," he retorted, rolling his eyes.
"Let's go, Volpina," he said as he grabbed my wrist and dragged me up.
I noticed that his veins stuck out on his neck when he strained. Was I that fat?
"Ready when you are, Shelly," I promptly declared as I trailed behind him. I tucked my flute into my fox-skin belt and flipped my hair.
"Why do girls do that?" Jade Turtle said, raising an eye brow at me.
"Do what?" I questioned, staring back at him.
"You know, flipping their hair and stuff," he said. Then he added, "Wait, are you hitting on me right now?"
"Excuse me?" I blinked. "Girls can flip their hair purely because the hair particles had started clinging to their skin, resulting in sweaty hairline. My life doesn't revolve around boys, genius."
"Good to know," Jade Turtle snorted, placing his glimmering shield on his back. Then he paused, as if he was trying to say something to be but couldn't bring himself to say it.
"What?" I said.
"I—never mind," he quipped. "Come on, Chat and Ladybug is waiting for us." Then he jumped off the roof, sailing through the air and slamming himself on the other side.
I followed him with a question.
#
"Pound it!" Ladybug exclaimed as she fist-bumped Chat noir. "You guys were great as usual." She looked at me, her lips curving into a motherly proud smile.
Omg, Ladybug smiled at me.
I'm content if I die now.
"Can I have your autograph?" I leaped, magically producing a pen and a piece of paper. Ladybug blinked at me and then carefully took the pen. She gracefully signed 'Ladybug' on it, looking somewhat embarrassed.
"Do you need mine?" Chat noir offered.
"Um, no thanks," I said as I hugged the paper. I was going to laminate it and frame it. Then maybe I'll put it in the city bank for safekeeping.
Ladybug worriedly glanced at her earrings, which were beeping furiously. "Oh, time to bug out!" she smiled as she vanished from my sight. Chat noir disappeared along with her with a dreamy look on his face.
"So . . . are you going home?" I cheerfully asked, turning around to face Jade Turtle.
You know that feeling when you thought you were talking to someone but that someone wasn't actually there? Yeah, that happened to me.
I stared at the empty spot and sighed before trudging down the street.
My necklace wasn't glowing hot or beeping like the other heroes' Miraculouses. This either meant Trixx had the energy of a bear or that I hardly used my powers at all.
I preferred to think the first one.
Just as I turned the corner, something light hit me.
I blinked and stared down at the crunched up paper on the ground. I picked it up and delicately unfolded it to reveal big printed words: you're worthless stop ruining the picture and die already.
I re-crunched the paper and threw it away. Then I flipped around to face the culprit.
My eyes widened as I recognized the bulky figure in front of me.
Kim.
"I heard all about you," he sneered, stepping forward. "Alix couldn't stop shutting up on your about how wonderful you were."
I took a mental note to give Alix some chocolate.
"Well, your Alix is definitely right," I smirked, crossing my arms.
"And I made a bet," Kim declared, glaring straight into my eyes. "That I can beat Volpina one-on-one. Just like this!"
Then he threw a punch in my direction, gladly I dodged it. But on the process, I tripped and fell to the ground. I know, it's really embarrassing.
"You're nothing, worthless," Kim murmured. "I'm not going to let anything drag me down."
Then Kim raised his fist, his silhouette looming over me like some sinister evil. I squeezed my eyes shut, raised both hands in front of my face, waiting for the worst.
Nothing happened but I heard.
I heard the screeching of shoes like someone had barged into Kim. I heard the rough breathing like that someone had ran all the way over here in full speed. Then I heard the soft voice cry, "What the heck is wrong with you?"
I opened one eyes to see Nino Lahiffe, panting between me and Kim.
"Nino? What are you doing here?" Kim blinked at him.
Nino adjusted his cap. "That's exactly my question. In the other hand, I have private business with this heroine." He offered me his hand and I grabbed it to stand up.
"I was just . . . fooling around," Kim shrugged. His confidence seemed to have gone at least thirty degrees down. He seemed nervous. He opened his mouth, "Are you going to tell the class about this?"
Nino laughed, "That's what you're worried? Don't worry, my lips are sealed."
Kim let out a sigh of relief. "Okay, if Alix ever hears this, she's going to make fun of me the whole year." Then with a quick pat on the back, he disappeared as fast as he appeared.
The gears in my brain were all cranking dangerously fast. Everything that had just happened fluttered in my brain like a rocket. Then all the puzzle pieces landed softly on the surface.
Kim had a crush on Alix.
Why didn't I see that before?
Ugh, I'm such a bad shipper. I was too blinded by Ladynoir and Adrienette.
"Hello, I still exist," Nino interrupted my thoughts, making me snap into reality. I blinked and turned to him with an anxious smile, "So what's your private business with me?"
Nino took a deep breath, his eyes glued to the floor. "I-I just wanted to say sorry," he mumbled. "I've made some bad comments about you and I know it's not right."
The event flew back into my mind. I was so sad and Trixx was so mad.
Before I can throw a punch at him from all the anger that was rushing back, I explained, "I think it's more important that you decide to own up to it. Thanks for the apology."
Nino's face brightened up and he smiled down at me. "Thanks for understanding."
I stared at his hazel eyes, watching the small pieces of gold flitting across his pupils, all held with some sort of determination that was always in his eyes.
"Your necklace is beeping," Nino pointed out.
Oh.
I stared down at my beeping necklace and sheepishly smiled. "Yeah, it's my time to go off I guess!" I cried as I sunk deeper into the dark shadows, lastly waving at my classmate.

Plagg's POV
"Did you hear about the news?" Rose chattered excitedly in my face. "Did you hear about the news?"
"What news?" I scrunched my eye brows together.
"Kim talked to Volpina!" Rose exclaimed before grabbing the next student and chattering into their faces.
I shared a look with Tikki before hurrying into the classroom. Kim was in the center, the kids surrounding him like he had won a golden medal from the Olympics or something. I pushed them out of the way to hear his voice.
"She said I was the handsomest, tallest, muscliest man she had ever seen on earth," Kim said proudly. Then he raised an eyebrow at Alix. "Does that mean I won the bet?"
Alix rolled her eyes and retorted something that I couldn't hear because of the ooh's and ahh's from the kids.
"Rubbish," Alya protested. "Volpina would've never called someone like you with compliments like that." She seemed annoyed.
"Of course she did!" Kim shouted back, smirking. "She even said—"
"Kim," said a quiet voice in the back.
I craned my neck to see Nino, leaning on the window sill. He slid his headphones down and looked at Kim in the eyes. Something passed between them and Kim turned away with a shrug. Then Nino resumed listening to his music.
"Plagg," Tikki whispered.
"Yeah?" I replied, looking down at her.
"I feel it," Tikki hoarsely said. "It's coming soon."
"What do you mean?" I blinked at her. I glanced around the room, life and chit chats buzzing through the hair. There were sparkling gleams in their enthusiastic eyes. I couldn't imagine anything bad happening to these humans. "Tikki, what's coming soon?"
"Chaos," Tikki whispered, concern embedded in her face.
Did I mention that Tikki had some prophetic skills? She can easily feel the most predictable tragedies and is usually there to prevent it. Now the key word is 'predictable' and 'usually'. If it's unexpected and she's not there, it's just chaos.
"Where? When?" I questioned her.
Tikki whimpered, "Plagg, I'm scared. This one's big. There might me more than one casualties. And it's not just mortals, it can be stretched out to us!"
I interlocked our fingers and kissed the top of her hand lightly.
There were only two things in the galaxy that can stretch their powers up to Kwamis.
Trixx and Wayzz.
Wayzz and Trixx.

Wayzz's POV
"You ran away," Trixx pointed out as soon as she saw me. "You literally just ran away. I met your Jade Turtle, but I didn't meet you. Where did you go?"
I knew this was coming.
"I went to the sanctuary, genius," I rolled my eyes, poking her forehead. "Because I decided to be a nice Kwami and make dinner for Master Fu."
"You didn't make one for me!" Trixx protested, pouting. Her pigtails danced wildly in the air, as if sensing her annoyance.
"You were late," I said, taking a step back. "You came at like two in the morning! Where the plague were you?"
Trixx's cheeks turned slightly pink as she sheepishly admitted, "I went to explore."
"Where?" I interrogated her.
"Paris," she said. The gleam in her eyes returned. Excitement filled her voice as she rushed, "Did you know that there are exactly seven thousand large-sized lights installed in the Eiffel Tower?"
"You walked around during midnight counting lights?" I raised an eye brow.
"Of course, a lowly-educated Kwami like you won't understand an adventurer's spirit," Trixx said in a disgusted tone.
"And a reckless, ridiculous spirit of yours will never fathom my expensively-educated logic," I retorted with a smug smile.
Trixx stuck out her tongue. "I love you, Wayzz. So much I wanna throw you out the window right now." Her tone told me she actually meant it.
"I love you too!" I shouted as I dodged her grasp and ran down the corridors.
We're never serious.
I'm so sorry for the late update! School just ended and I went on a trip with my bffs and I just got lazy and I literally just remembered to update and . . . okay, I'm sorry.
