Chapter 12. Alya

Alya's POV

I marched out of my house as quietly as possible, pressing myself close to the shadows. It was Alya the reporter's time to shine now. I pressed myself up the wall, sinking into the shadows.

After meeting Jade Turtle, I realized that the heroes spontaneously made night patrols. And according to Chat noir, Ladybug often went out on Thursdays—which is quite ironic because that's when Marinette has her so-called internet 'sewing lessons'!

I turned on my camera, whirring with life. I started filming the video, I know Nino always say that I start videos too early but you never know what happens; I might even catch a glimpse of Ladybug de-transforming.

I walked on the moonlit streets, turning on my flashlight and pointing down at my notebook. Ladybug was rumored to be spotted near the Agreste Mansion so I'll hang by there.

I thought I saw a figure on the darkened mansion so I climbed up the metallic emergency to stairs up to the building right beside it.

"And . . . we might just see Ladybug," I whispered to myself, conscious of the fact that my voice was being recorded.

I came all the way up to the rooftop and I let the chilly air wrap around me. It was cold, sharp, but somewhat refreshing. I zoomed my camera in on top of the Agreste Mansion.

"Is that her?" I cried as I took a step closer. I put a foot on the edge of the roof.

Then my foot slipped.

And no, I didn't miraculously transform into Volpina in that split second of plummeting into the ground. And I also didn't start flying, if that's what your wondering.

But I did get whisked off my feet by some blessed guy.

"Hey . . . you alright?" breathed a familiar voice.

I opened one eye to see a blinking hazel one back at me. I shrieked at the proximity between me and Jade Turtle; I could hear his rough breathing against my cheek. Freaking out, I flung my arms in the air.

Jade Turtle winced as he struggled to not drop me as I squirmed desperately.

"Oh . . . um, yeah, I guess? I mean, I didn't die so . . . yeah, I'm alright," I rushed, my voice getting faster by the moment.

"Okay," Jade Turtle said awkwardly as he put me down. Then he brushed my shoulder awkwardly and breathed. "Um . . . so I'm guessing I'll be off." He smiled at me.

For a second I thought my heart was racing. But that's probably my imagination, right?

Just as he turned away, I grabbed him by the sleeve. Argh, why did I do that? Jade Turtle looked back at me with a quizzical face. I quickly blurted out, "Do you know where Ladybug is?"

Jade Turtle shook his head with a gleam in his eyes. "It's cold and dangerous, you should go back home," he said, placing a hand on my shoulder. As soon as the contact, I could feel my body vibrating with chills down my spine. Why was I like this?

"I-I just wanted to see Ladybug," I managed to say.

Jade Turtle gazed at me intently, screwing his eye brows. Then he leaned forward and placed his forehead against mine. As he did that, my body completely froze, my face turning red by the moment.

"You don't have fever," Jade Turtle mumbled. "But your face is unusually red."

"It's alright!" I yelled at the night, panicking.

Jade Turtle flinched, stepping away from me. "Are you okay?" he asked.

"Of course I'm okay! Why do you think I'm not?" I yelled again. I couldn't get the exclamation points off my sentences now! Ugh! Now I'm even thinking with exclamation points! Then I hastily asked, "Do you know where Ladybug is?" I just asked this question! Why am I asking it again?

Jade Turtle hesitated and scratched the back of his head. "I-I actually do know where she is," he said sheepishly and honestly. "We're having this sort of hero meeting."

I almost dropped my phone. "W-Wait, all heroes? Including Volpina?"

Jade Turtle averted his eyes. "Well . . . we did invite her through her Kwami but . . ." He hesitated a little. "M-My Kwami, Wayzz, had some conflict with hers and he think she might not come at all. They had an awkward disagreement, according to him . . . and she might need—"

If Trixx has problems with this 'Wayzz', it shouldn't affect me. She can't just exclude me out of this kind of thing!

"Yeah, nice talking to you," I said curtly and I jumped down the metal stairs and rushed down to the street, leaving a baffled Jade Turtle.

"Trixx!" I yelled down the isolated the hallway.

"I'm here," Trixx emerged from the alleyway, as if on cue. She looked at her non-existent watch and grumbled, "I was waiting for you to finish your lovey-dovey conversation with your lovey-dovey hero."

I ignored her 'love-dovey's and demanded, "What was with the whole awkward conversation thing with this 'Wayzz'?"

Trixx darkened. "Wayzz just won't shut up about telling me off. I completely understand his intentions but sometimes he just goes too far. And then Tikki's just pressuring me all the time, Plagg isn't really helping much by offering cheese!"

I rolled my eyes. "Tails out," I softly murmured.

Trixx's figure disintegrated as she was sucked into my charm piece. Then I could feel her powers and confidence channeling into me. But also felt intense anger and frustration as well.

As soon as the light faded away, I grabbed my flute desperately and snapped it down the middle, splitting it down vertically. As I thrust them apart, a thing sheet of hologram appeared between it.

Ladybug: eiffel tower NOW

I thrust my flute away and jumped into the shadows, flitting through the alley way, glancing up at the stars to see a brightly lit Eiffel Tower not far away.

"Vixen," someone breathed behind as I was yanked out of the blue and onto the rooftop.

I squirmed under the grasp and flipped around. "Hey, shelly, is it your secret hobby to yank people off their feet or something?"

Jade Turtle scoffed, rolling his eyes, "Where were you anyways?"

His demeanor had changed 180 degrees from talking to Alya and Volpina. It was still the same me, what was the difference? Was being the victim of a fake hero this different? I gritted my teeth, "I had to soothe my Kwami out of her depression. Do you even know what Wayzz did to her?"

Okay, I actually have no idea what this 'Wayzz' did to her but it mustn't be good.

Jade Turtle's face darkened. "He didn't do anything wrong! All he did was tell her to be careful!"

"But she already knows that!" I hissed at his face. "She's been told that from him for a million years, she doesn't need to be told again and again!"

Jade Turtle pressed his hand to his forehead, seemingly exasperated. "Then she should just get it right in the first place!"

We breathed heavily, glaring at each other. I balled my fist up and threw it at him, ready to punch his face. But he twisted away and wrapped his hand around my fist.

"Calm down," he said.

"You think I'm going to calm down?" I yelled at him. "Someone just told me again, that both me and Kwami are not fit to be a hero! How do I react to that?"

Then I crumbled to the ground and started sobbing. I don't even know why I'm crying; I just let the tears stream down my cheeks. Gosh, I was emotional. This is probably my PMS phase.

Jade Turtle knelt down beside me, wrapping his arm awkwardly around my shoulders. "Hey, I'm sorry," he mumbled. "I didn't mean it that way but if you took it that way, I apologize." His voice was low and soft, like chocolate.

I wiped my face, self-conscious, and mumbled back, "It's alright."

Jade Turtle helped me up and lead me towards the Eiffel Tower, still concern etched on his face. Then he shrugged nonchalantly and added, "I'm guessing you get emotional when you're transformed?"

I blinked, "What?"

Jade Turtle looked down at me. "Ladybug told me that there are aspects of our personality that gets bolder and more distinct. It helps you be more yourself, according to her, but . . ." His voice trailed away.

"But what?" I asked.

He shook his head. "I don't know, but I feel a whole lot more composed and calmer when I'm transformed. But this—" He gestured at himself. "—doesn't feel like it's myself! It just feels like Wayzz is taking over."

I cocked my head. "I don't have much difference with or without Trixx. I'm still the same me."

Jade Turtle looked down at me with somewhat admiration shining in his eyes. "You must have a really bold personality, then. I don't have much life with or without Wayzz. That's probably why he's filling in the holes."

"There comes our lovey-dovey couple!"

I yelled back, "There is our stupid pun-ful Chat noir!"

Chat noir grinned as he waved his hand in the air beside an annoyed Ladybug. Her silhouette was shining brightly due to the glimmering Eiffel Tower lights before her. She gestured at me to come so I happily skipped towards her.

"I have a proposal," Ladybug started.

"I do too," Chat noir grinned. "Will you marry me?"

Ladybug ignored the comment and continued, "I don't know if you guys have noticed but . . . something bad is going to happen soon, according to my Kwami." She kept looking at me when she said that. "And I just want to prepare for it."

"That's a great idea," Jade Turtle chimed beside me. "Do we know what this danger is?"

Ladybug hesitated. "My Kwami thinks it's either some very horrible natural disaster or . . ." Her eyes met mine again. "A supernatural force meddling with it."

I blinked until it registered into my brain. "And you think it's going to be me?" I said, my voice barely a whisper.

Jade Turtle snapped his head towards Ladybug and argued, "I don't think it's going to be Volpina. I heard this kind of thing from Wayzz. Just because they had some problems in the past doesn't mean it's going to happen again."

"But we don't know for sure," Ladybug said, pursing her lips. "Especially since there hasn't been much Akumas lately. A lot of things could be happening soon, both good and bad."

"We can't prepare for something we don't know," Jade Turtle said, crossing his arms dubiously.

"We should stay alert," Ladybug said, her eyes narrowing down at the hero. "And stop arguing with me, it's not going to stop the problem."

I flinched at her sharp words.

Chat noir placed a hand on Ladybug's shoulder, concerned. "M'lady, are you alright?" he asked. "You don't sound like yourself right now."

Ladybug sighed. "I-I'm sorry, it's just that my Kwami is really stressed out these days a-and it gets to be as well when I'm transformed. She has been fretting about this for a while and it gets on my nerves, sometimes."

Chat noir wrapped an arm around Ladybug's shoulders.

I just stood there, kind of watching it all in a third-eye-view. Then I just said, "But Ladybug, I just hope your Kwami wouldn't be pressuring mine. Because . . . your situation works vice versa. You get stressed, I get stressed."

Ladybug looked up. "You're right, I'm sorry for being emotional," she said as she embraced me into a hug. I hugged her back and raised an eye brow at Chat noir, who shrugged back.

"I just hope your Kwamis act the same way as you guys do," Jade Turtle said, leaning on a wall with a raised eye brow.

"Are you saying Tikki won't apologize?" Ladybug said.

"And you accusing Trixx of being not calm?" I said, outrageous. "Excuse me, who was the Kwami that threw guilt around at Trixx?"

Jade Turtle raised a hand. "Fine fine, I'll just step out of this," he said. "So, we're done, right?"

"Hope so," Chat noir said, glancing at his non-existent watch. "I have a tight schedule with sector 3. It's my patrol night."

"Wait," I cried. "When do we organize all these night patrol thing?"

"You do it whenever you want," Chat noir explained. "A sleepless night, an annoying Kwami, just go on a night patrol! Sign some autographs to—"

"Excited high school reporters," Jade Turtle finished. "There's this girl there named 'Alya' and she's going to roam around Paris until she finds Ladybug."

Ladybug smiled. "Yeah, I know her."

I blinked at her. Ladybug knows me? From what? From where?

"Her Ladyblogs are kinda cool," Ladybug said.

"You read the Ladyblog?" I screeched. "That's . . . amazing!" Then I paused. "I mean, I'm a big fan as well, the Ladyblog is just amazing, you know?"

Ladybug smiled at me. "I have a friend just like you."

"That's cool," I cried, my voice getting louder and louder from the exhilaration. "I mean, you have a friend just like me! It's like I'm your friend!" Gosh, I was so jealous of this friend.

"Well, she doesn't really know I'm Ladybug," Ladybug said. "It's you know, secrecy."

Chat noir snorted. "So much for secrecy, m'lady."

I looked between each other. "W-Wait, so you know each other's identity."

"For starters, let's all blame it all on Tikki," Chat noir said. "She called Plagg in a public place and just left my brain all meddled and confused and bam! Apparently, this girl is Ladybug!"

"Chat!" Ladybug yelled in protest. "It wasn't her fault!"

"Yup, and the moon is made out of blue cheese," Chat noir said, swiveling around. "Yeah, I'm going off now." With that, he leaped off the roof and plunged into darkness.

"Time to bug out!" Ladybug said, winking at me before slipping away.

And once again, it's just me and shell-face. I turned around and saw him gone. Wow. Talk about some good manners here. I sighed and jumped off the roof, retreating to my home.

This was more like a bonus chapter but I liked writing it. What's your zodiac sign? Mine's Taurus.
