Chapter 11. 1945

August 6, 1945—Japan, Hiroshima

Wayzz's POV

"Trixx, you are not just leaving these people," I ordered, hurling a finger in her direction. "Tikki said it herself that something bad was going to happen here. And we're not just abandoning our post."

"I'm not saying that," Trixx argued back, her violet eyes gleaming. her mouth was tight thin line. "Don't you think that trying to thwart this whole thing would be better? Like figuring out what exactly is trying to kill them?"

I looked at her, crossing my arms. "I'm not letting you go," I said firmly. "You're not going to die under my watch."

"Oh my plague, I'm not going to die so just shut up!" Trixx yelled at me, her hair seemingly floating from her rage. "I'm just trying to help instead you making me to stupid errands to keep me busy."

"Trixx," I softly complained. "I can't afford to losing you."

Trixx's expression momentarily softened. She touched my cheek. "I'm not going to die," she whispered.

"Good," I replied, smirking. "Because then it'll be me arranging the funeral you know?"

Then she turned around and ran away like hell was loose. I watched her disappear into the streets. There really wasn't anything I can do right now to stop her from running off. I ran my hand through my hair in frustration.

"Wayzz!"

I turned around to see Plagg running at me with full speed, his face consorted with shock and fear. Before he could come crashing into me, I grabbed him by the shoulder, stopping him, and cried, "What? What did Master Fu say?"

"You guys have to run," Plagg panted. "We can't stop this. This is bigger than anything we've ever faced."

"Plagg, it's World War II, we expected this," I calmly said, shaking him.

"No, it's not," Plagg shook his head. "We can't stop this one, Wayzz. You have to run. Go get Trixx. Nothing can stop this. We can't do it. No one can."

I gritted my teeth, grimacing. If this was something that big . . . my eyes shifted to the villagers and kids on the street. It was a quiet town, with lively people bustling with fear from the constant air raids and explosions. I wanted to protect them. I couldn't just leave.

"Make sure you're out of here by an hour," Plagg warned, than ran off the direction he came.

I couldn't make myself to do it. There was something about the children's smile. I couldn't leave them. But I couldn't stay either.

Trixx.

Her name flashed in my mind. I definitely couldn't leave without her. No matter what.

#

I took a sharp intake of breath. It's almost been an hour since Plagg had warned me. I still couldn't find Trixx, but I had made sure that the evacuation warning spread across the town as soon as possible. I just hoped the Japanese listened to me.

"Wayzz!" Trixx chirped as she appeared out of nowhere. "Where have you been?"

"Trixx!" I cried in relief. "We have to get out of here. There is something bigger than we ever experienced coming and Master Fu ordered us to retreat. I've got most of the town under escape, they'll be out of Hiroshima soon. We—"

"Wayzz," Trixx tugged on my sleeve and led me to this abandoned warehouse. There was telescope, lit by the sunlight in the middle of it. She pushed it towards me. "You have to see what's coming."

I peered through the lens, and darted it around, searching the sky.

Then I saw it.

Jet planes, marching this way. But what I saw more was even more shocking; it was an American B-29 bomber. I gulped, my throat turning dry all of a sudden. I knew exactly what this meant. I was previously assigned to America before Japan and I knew what they had been brewing. But I didn't expect them to achieve it.

"Atomic bombs," I whispered.

A whole lot of things flashed in my mind. I could already see the mushroom explosion. The dark, churning gas released into the air, sizzling fire bits spewing everywhere. Then a whole ripple of explosives, killing everyone.

Trixx nodded solemnly. "It's not going to help, Wayzz. We only have a few more minutes before they come. Everyone's going to die."

I screwed my face and lifted my hand to my forehead. How did this happen? Why couldn't I be more vigilant, more wise, more logical and prevent all this crap happening?

"Trixx," I ordered. "We have to go."

"What about the people?" Trixx demanded, her eyes filled with fury. "You know none of them would survive any of this. They're going to be dead. They're humans, Wayzz."

"We have to be logical about this," I reminded her. "And wise."

Trixx flung her hands in the air. "Oh, shut up already Wayzz you know that stuff you've been saying isn't going work in here," she said, her eyes wild with fire. "Either you stay and help me or just leave." She pointed outside.

I sighed. I was definitely going to regret this.

"Fine," I said. "What's the plan?"

Three minutes into listening to Trixx rapidly rushing her plan, I could hear the plane coming closer. Their engine vibrating with life, carrying the deadliest weapon the world has never seen. I placed a hand on Trixx's shoulder, "Your plan isn't going to work. Trixx, just fly away now, I'll take care of it."

"No, no, no, Mr. Sacrifice," Trixx smirked. "You're not taking the credit this time."

"But your plan is crazy!" I screamed. "It's not going to work! Your body is going to shatter into little fractions of magic and enchantment!"

"It's worth it," Trixx said, walking out of the ware house. Then she grabbed me by the hand just as I was going to turn around. I looked at her violet eyes, filled with mystery.

"What?" I asked.

"Two more things," Trixx said. "Whatever happens don't put me before you. And . . . whatever happens in the next few minutes, don't ever take the blame."

I looked at her. "I promise," I lied. I knew I couldn't keep that.

Trixx nodded and we walked out of warehouse.

She hunched low and pitched forward, launching herself into the air. I immediately followed her as she raced right towards jet planes. We caught up with inhuman speed, the wind whistling in our ears.

Even up close, I could feel the jet warning me. I could sense the danger inside it, angry and excited. My hands trembled as I carefully unscrewed the bottom pane and tore the piece of metal crust off the plane. Immediately, Trixx climbed in confidently, her hair flapping wildly beside her.

Thump!

Thump!

My heart was beating so loudly. My blood raced faster than normal and my eyes found it hard to focus. The wind slapped my face vigorously, as if trying to stop me from saving the world.

There was a little string of hope inside me. A string of hope that wanted to save everyone.

The machine started to smoke and sizzle. Various wires and gadgets flew out through the gaping hole in the bottom. I got worried. What if we didn't make it in time? What if  Trixx accidentally let the bomb tick?

"Trixx," I cried. "Hurry!"

In the end, Trixx finally pulled out what looked like a really big metallic tank. I froze when I saw that. It was more dangerous than it looked. Any sort of physical contact with the ground would immediately turn it off. My heart raced as Trixx tried to cut off the wires that clung to it.

I actually thought for a moment it might work.

What I didn't see was that the atomic bomb was designed to be dropped off on the city in the sky. There was clank of a heavy device rolling the bomb off the jet plane. A moment, Trixx was there, the next was she was plummeting into Hiroshima, clutching the bomb tightly with her grasp.

"Trixx!" I screamed as I instantly followed her.

We were just two dots falling through the sky.

"No, no, Wayzz, I got this," Trixx said confidently, smiling. "We just have to stop it from falling to the ground right? Anytime now, I will soar through the sky!" I knew she was straining her hardest to get the bomb fly up with her magic. But I could see it; it wasn't going to work.

"Trixx," I cried. "Just let me take it!"

It was that moment when things got bad. I had grabbed the bomb with my hands and Trixx and I were both holding on to it. I held my breath, watching the weight of danger in my hands.

The next moment, it slipped out of grasp.

"NOOOOOOO!" we both shouted, diving for the bomb. We were both nearing the ground, sailing to our death. I pitched forward, driving myself to the point I was faster than sound. But Trixx was faster; she was always a foot ahead of me. My head was spinning wildly, my heart thumping loudly, and I calculated.

Would we make it?

I watched as Trixx's fingers were inches away from the bomb. But the ground was only an inch away.

We were not going to make it.

Then everything went slow. It was like I could glimpse into the future.

There bomb was right in front of us, and it was going to explode right in front of us. Yeah, maybe some generous mythical god out there could save us by stopping time.

No that didn't happen for us.

No miraculous saves.

No miracles.

"Shield," I whispered once more. I yanked Trixx away from the bomb and wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close. I pressed her head to my shoulder. If I can't survive, maybe I can help Trixx survive. A big bubble of magic wrapped around us. I knew it wasn't enough. But maybe it was enough to protect her.

"No," she whispered back, tears streaming down her face.

Then it exploded.

Trixx's POV

I cried. I saw it. I saw the bomb tick off. The metallic crust peeled off and shattered into tiny pieces and overwhelming heat ripples across. And that was all I saw. But that was all I needed too. I knew the children died. I knew everyone died.

I could already see visions or limp corpses spread along the streets, all the buildings annihilated, and everything gone. Complete destruction.

I clung tightly to Wayzz and let my conscious leave me.

"Plagg! Look, she's stirring."

"Oh my plague."

"No, look! She's alive!"

I opened one eyes to see Plagg and Tikki peering over me, looming and towering over me like giants. Immediately, I could feel my whole body aching and shouting for life. Every single cell seemed scorched with agony. Then everything rushed back to me and tears trickled down my already-tear-stained cheeks.

It even hurt to cry.

I opened my mouth. My throat ached and twitched. Every time a teeny tiny muscle moved, the pain was unbearable. I quietly managed to choke out, "W-What a-a-about—"

"I'm sorry," Tikki said, carefully giving me a hug. It hurt so much. I cried openly, wailing.

This continued for another seven minutes before I could shut up. "Wayzz? W-Wayzz?" I asked, not able to say a complete sentence without stopping and breathing heavily. I looked between the two of them, waiting for someone to answer. I couldn't imagine the worst happening to him.

Tikki bit her lower lip. "H-He's fine," she said, her shoulders drooping.

"He's reforming," Plagg said. "H-His essence was . . . broken."

I blinked. Reform? To reform meant that your physical body had shattered and got crushed into pieces, leaving only a spiritual form of yourself. It meant that it will at least take a few years for their physical form to completely restore.

"W-War?" I questioned, my heart racing.

Tikki looked at me with a pained expression. "Trixx," she whispered. "The war is over."

I didn't know how to react. How could the war be over?

Plagg looked at the floor with guilt. "T-Trixx . . . it's almost been three years. You've been unconscious for three whole years."

I blinked. Lifting my eyelids hurt so much. I opened my mouth and closed it again. Then there was something in me that broke apart. Wayzz had died for me. He was broken. He was shattered. He had lost everything because of me.

"Trixx, you're not stable yet!" Tikki cried as she grabbed my by the arm when I tried to sit up. Pain coursed through my body once more.

"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" I yelled, tears flowing freely. "I-I could've saved everyone! I could've protected Wayzz! He didn't have to lose everything for me then!"

I cried.

It wasn't until another year I had enough strength to walk.

And it wasn't until then I was informed where Wayzz was.

#

CLASH!

The door slammed open and I marched in. As soon as I heard that Wayzz was being reformed in a dungeon, I was mad. Especially when I know what he's trying to do.

"Trixx—," Master Fu started.

I looked at Wayzz, all chained up to the wall. After four years, he seemed completely regaining his physical. His ruffled up electrifying green hair was the same as always, except it looked wilted. He looked broken mentally and emotionally, if not physically.

I marched forward and grabbed Wayzz by the arm. "You promised me you wouldn't do it," I hissed in his face, trying memorizing every single section of his emerald eyes.

Wayzz glared back evenly. "Shut up and go back. I'm making things easier for you."

"By taking the blame? By taking the punishment? Do you think you're doing it for me? I'm telling you; it wasn't my fault and it isn't going to be yours," I growled.

Master Fu calmly said, "Trixx, someone has to take the consequences."

"Why him then?" I yanked Wayzz off the ground. "He's twice as innocent as me! It wasn't me and it wasn't him!"

Master Fu peacefully raised his hand with a placid expression on his face.

He doesn't believe me. No one ever dared to believe in vixens, did they? They were unworthy of trust forever, was it?

Wayzz curled his hand around my hand that was jerking him around. "Go, Trixx. You're innocent. You don't have to do this!"

"You're innocent as well then!" I yelled back, tears stinging my eyes.

Then my expression hardened then suddenly brightened as if someone had just lit the light bulb of my brain. I loosened my grip on Wayzz. I slowly turned to Master Fu.

I opened my mouth.

"Then I volunteer to take Wayzz's place."

Wayzz's eyes widened.

"No, I won't allow it," Wayzz immediately countered. "You don't know what you're taking. It's going to be ages, Trixx. Your powers will be dulled and you won't have you hero until you're free."

"But I'll still be back," I smiled. "And when I'm back, you're going to be waiting for me."

Wayzz shook his head, unbelievable.

"I'll take it," I said, facing Master Fu. "Take my essence, Master Fu."

"Trixx, don't do this," Wayzz begged.

Master Fu lifted her necklace and said, "Are you sure Trixx?"

"Anything for Wayzz," I confirmed. Then the fox charm glowed and the shining light engulfed me into its warmth, soaking me in. I welcomed it, glad to be its prisoner. And looked back one last time and smiled at Wayzz.

"I'm coming back for you."

That's my end.

Idk but I was crying as I was writing this stuff down. I feel so sad. Let's all pray for those who have been effected by this.
