The Clone Wars (So Far)
Date: 8/9/18
As a Star Wars fan and someone who has watched all the movies *except Solo because my parents lost faith in Star Wars*, I recently decided to watch one of their shows that Netflix provides, known as The Clone Wars, with my brothers. helped me start watching them, and I have one word to describe it: beautiful.
Let me explain. Clone Wars is a kid's show. But it's not like the stupidity we see in most children's shows (I've seen a lot of cringe because I have younger siblings). It reminds me of a Pixar movie. When you see a Pixar movie, you don't walk away dumber because the story was too simple or predictable. You don't hate the characters and find them idiotic. You say, "Wow, that was an amazing movie." Because although it is simple for kids, it is not at the expense of the story itself.
It's the same thing that I find in Clone Wars. The story is not simple and predictable; the characters go under significant struggles to achieve their goals, and the war between the Separatists and the Republic is not portrayed as black-and-white. The characters themselves undergo change and their arcs bring about tough questions to the surface relating to the philosophy of the Jedi in relation to the war, the merits of violence and pacifism, and more. Clone Wars is a war story that, while appealing to kids because of the usual Star Wars intrigue, also has a beautifully layered arc in both the story and the characters.
Yet this was because I found out how to watch it correctly. Unlike a lot of TV series, Clone Wars is not meant to be watched straight from Seasons 1-5 straight. I tried to do this, and it drove me crazy. Season 1 is not very good if you watch it through. It's confusing and the script needs a lot of improvement. But as the series progresses, it gains momentum and becomes a complex and thematic series. If publishes the watching order soon on her book, I will refer you to hers, but if not, I'll post it in a separate chapter. (UPDATE: She has now published the watching order. It's in her book "Star Wars Rants.)
Some final controversial thoughts for those who have watched the show before (SPOILER WARNING COMING UP):
1. No, I don't hate Ahsoka. I think her character is actually really cool. She's a bit annoying in Season 1, but everyone's annoying in Season 1.
2. Anakin is SO AWESOME. He is such a troll in the Mandalore story to Obi-Wan and his whininess has vanished. (I think his whininess is not a deal-breaker in the prequels, but that's my opinion.)
3. The decision to bring Darth Maul back was pure genius.
4. I am very excited for the revival of Clone Wars. I'm wondering if I can get a job and subscribe to Disney's streaming service so I can get more Clone Wars.
5. Obitine. 😭😭
What are your thoughts on Clone Wars? Do you want a watching order? If so, let me know!
