chapter one

Brynn ran down the stairs as Joe, her foster dad yelled towards her, "You're gonna be late, again." Brynn hoping into her other shoe while grabbing her school bag. It's Brynnlee's last year of high school and she's been late at least 10 times since the beginning of school. Safe to say she's not a morning person.
"I'm sorry, Joe." Brynn offered a sad smile before closing the door behind her. Joe hummed at the girl before ushing her into the car. "You need to stop picking up bad habits from Barry."
Brynn smiled at him not responding as she pulled out her phone. She quickly texting Anna, her best friend since first grade. Brynn wasn't seeking out any friends once she was entered into school but Anna decided one day to sit next to her. Even though Brynn didn't talk she befriended her and beat up anyone who bullied her.
Anna quickly replied to Brynn's text on her being late, Hurry up. I'm bored without you. Andrew is giving me his crazy eyes again.
Andrew has had a crush on Anna since the third grade and Anna keeps turning him down. Why? No one knows. He's cute and a gentleman but Anna declines each time. And by crazy eyes she mean loving staring eyes. He's not a creep.
Pulling up to the school entrance Joe unlocked the door, "Alright kiddo. I'll see you after school." Brynn nodded and exited the car, "Thank you."
Brynn sped walked up to the school doors and buzzed the system to let her in. She quickly checking in and heading towards her first block class, English. Safe to say she hated this class. Walking in late she handed Mrs. Miller her slip and found her seat next to Anna.
"Lee, why are you so late? School started half an hour ago." Anna whispered leaning into the girl. Luckily the seats were tables of two so the two could take more discreetly. "I was waiting up last night for Barry to get home but he missed his train. I stayed up late and woke up early hoping to see him this morning but he's train is late."
Anna nodded with a small laugh, "Of course. Should've known it was Barry. He's always late." Brynn agreed pulling out her note book.
Andrew tapped Anna shoulder, "Anna" The two girls turned to face the blonde green eyed boy sitting behind them. His friend Zack sat next to him, face into his phone. Zack had longish black hair and chestnut brown eyes, he acts like a total dick but in reality is the softest and sweeties person you'd meet. His little sister Lilly brings it out of him for sure.
"Yes, Andrew." Anna replied sweetly. He pulled out a dark chocolate bar handing it to the girl. Andrew knew everything about Anna from her favorite color to her favorite article of clothing, it's Andrew's blue sweatshirt he lend to Anna one night the four of them were on a beach. Anna was cold so Andrew gave her his sweatshirt and never received it back. Anna wears it about once a week and every time Andrew's face is met with a smile but Anna shuts it down.
Andrew is a very kind soul who'd wait till she fell to be with her. He's only asked her out twice. Once in third grade and again two years ago. Andrew never pushed her to date him but he's always there for her. Brynn's secretly rooting for them. But today the reason Andrew was handing Anna a chocolate bar was because Anna started her period this morning.
Anna offered the boy a soft smile, "Thank you." "Pleasures all mine." Andrew replied before kicking his friends slightly adding him to the conversation. Zack groaned but clicked his phone off. "So," the boy started, "What's the plan?"
Zack looked confused, "What plan?" His friend shot him a look, "For tonight." Zack shook his head, "No you mean tomorrow night. I can't come tonight. I gotta watch Lils."
"Okay fine, tomorrow night. Still good?" Anna nodded, "Yep all good." Anna looked over at Brynn, "I think I'm good." "Awesome, wanna meet at Zack's house?"
"Why my house?"
"It's the closest."
"Plus I miss Lilly." Anna added.
"Lils won't be there this weekend." Zack starts, "She's with my grandparents."
"Wait," Brynn stopped looking towards Zack, "Lily isn't joining us? We miss her."
Zack lifted his arms in defeat, "Damn, why don't you just be her friend then."
Andrew chuckled, "It's not that we don't like you, Lils is just cuter."
"Hey, "Zack pouted offended, "I'm cute." The group broke out in laughter's, "Sure thing, pretty boy." Anna smiled turning around to face the board nudging Brynn to join her as the noises in the room died down.
Class went by quick and in no time the day was over. Barry had texted Brynn 45 minutes into her first class that he was back and heading to work. The siblings texted all day and planned to meet up at Barry's lab with Iris to see the particle accelerator.
"Alright," Anna breathed out as the four exited the school, "See you guys tomorrow in hell."
Brynn nodded, "Dramatic much." Anna shook her head," No. Never."
Andrew and Zack we're a few feet behind the girls talking about god knows what. Zack nodded before waving bye to the others. Anna gripped onto Brynn groaning, "Ok, I've got to go. I promised my mom I'd help out tonight."
"I can walk you," Andrew said speaking up, Anna nodded, "Sure." Brynn tried hiding her smile but epically failed and earned a middle finger from her friend, "We'll see you tomorrow Brynn."
"Bye," She waved back making her way to the police station. It was only a few blocks away.
The strawberry blonde pushed open the door to the station being greeted by the few people walking by, she offered smiles and a few greetings before she made her way to Barry's lab.
"Which means I don't know if we're gonna be able to make it to S.T.A.R. Labs." Brynn heard Barry say as she entered the lab. "What?" She announced as she walked towards Barry finding Iris already here. "I canceled my therapy appointment for this, Dr. Calloway is gonna kill me. I've already missed three, just this week."
Therapy was something Brynnlee hated and tried to get out of every chance she got. Growing up Joe and the doctors thought I'd be best for her to talk to someone, not that she talked to anyone at all. But going twice a week since she was 3 was getting annoying. Dr. Oliva Calloway just talked to her most of the time and made the girl color, draw, write, anything that didn't require her talking really as her way of contributing in the sessions.
Barry turned his head, "Brynn." She just shook her head, "Shhh." Turning to Iris, "Carry on, please." Iris gave her a small smile before looking at her older brother.
"Seeing this thing turn on is like your dream. Your sad little nerdy dream." Iris started, "Plus, I canceled a date for this."
Iris picked up a few of Barry's fires and eating them. Brynn stole one before sitting down in the chair.
"Hands off my fries." Barry snapped pulling his fries away from the two, "Unbelievable."
"I'm stress-eating over my dissertation." Iris defended making Brynn laugh. "We started selling cronuts at Jitters, I ate two today. If I don't graduate soon, I'm gonna be more muffin-top than woman."
Barry smirked before turning to Iris, "You look amazing."
Brynn jumped from her seat, "She doesn't look amazing. She looks gorgeous." Iris gave the girl a soft smile, "Thanks, B." Iris then wrapped her are around the younger girl whispering in her ear, "Now help convince your brother to come."
"What is so important about this particle accelerator anyway?" Iris asked trying to get Barry to talk about his favorite thing ever.
"Harrison Wells' work in quantum theory is light-years ahead of anything they're doing at CERN." Barry explains excitedly Brynn tilted her head, "Hey Bar, You're doing that thing where you're not speaking English. Can you dumb it down for your baby sis?"
Barry let out a breathed laugh, Ok. Just imagine that that dot, is everything the human race has ever learned until this moment." Barry explained as he drew on the white board.
"Does that include twerking?" Iris asked making the young girl snort at her question.
"That is everything we could learn from the particle accelerator." Barry said drawing on the board again. "It's a whole new way of looking at physics. It will literally change the way that we think about everything."
"You gotta get yourself a girlfriend." Iris said making Brynn nod," I know right. I try to set him up but he doesn't listen."
"Hey, leave him alone, he's working." Joe said walking into the lab. Iris leaned over, "Hi, Dad." Joe gave his daughter a quick hug before pointing over at Brynnlee, "You forget to do something today?" Brynn tucked her lips together avoiding his question indicating he knew she missed her therapy session.
Saved by the beeping coming from the computer next the her, "Your test thingy is done." Barry clicked onto the screen before sitting down next to Brynn.
"I think the Mardon brothers are hiding on a farm." Barry started, "The fecal matter I found on the street, it was cow manure, which contains traces of oxytetracycline. It's an antibiotic. There are only four farms in the area that still use it in their feed. I bet you find a very sweet Shelby parked at one of them."
Brynn was trying to keep up but she didn't really care so she just scrolled on her phone waiting for them to decide what was happening tonight.
"Dad, seeing as how Barry solved your poop problem, how about letting him go to S.T.A.R.Labs?" Iris asked pulling him inside a side hug. "Fine, go."
"Yes! Thank you, Joe." Barry said jumping up and tapping his sister. Brynn nodded grabbing her jacket and dropping her school bag.
"Bye Joe." Brynn smiled hugging him on their way out. "This conversation isn't over. We'll talk about this tomorrow." Nodding walking away from him, "Sure."

"So Barry, how was your trip?" Iris asked and Brynn skipped up to meet the two.
"Did you find proof of the impossible in Starling City, or did you just make my dad mad for no reason?" "Yeah, I'd like to know also. Your texts were kinda bla."
Barry laughed at his sister glad she joined, she was the biggest westallen shipper and always enjoyed being around the two.
"Actually, while I was away, I had a chance to think about you know, relationships. And well, I'm not in one, and, you're not in one either, and you're my best friend, Iris."
"You're mine, too." Ooo friendburned Brynn though silently whispered laughing to herself. She may ship them but Barry makes things so awkward it's to funny at times. "Why else would I be here?"
"That's not what I meant. What I meant-"
"I know what you're gonna say, Barry."
"I'm not sure you do."
Brynn's toning out the conversation as she feels this is way too personal to be listening to.
Everyone started clapping. As Harrison Wells walked onto the stage introducing himself.
"Thank you. My name is Harrison Wells. Tonight, the future begins. The work my team and I will do here will change our understanding of physics. Will bring about advancements in power, advancements in medicine, and trust me that future will be here faster than you think."
"Ow! Hey, my laptop! It's got my dissertation." Iris yelled towards Barry who looked at Brynn, "Stay with Iris."
Barry ran off and Brynn reached for Iris as they followed slowly behind Barry.
"Barry!" Brynn and Iris yelled as they watched him get hit in the stomach with the bag. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah." He said leaning against the fence out of breath.

The three ended up at the station. Barry sitting in a chair holding his bloody nose as Iris walked around the table. Brynn was just spinning in the desk chair near the two.
"Who is that guy, and what is he so proud of?" Iris asked Barry as the new guy was grinning, "So, he caught a mugger."
"He's a transfer from Keystone." Barry introduced, "Started a few weeks ago. Eddie Thawne."
"Oh, that's Detective Pretty Boy." Brynn singed a bit replaying Joe's words in her head.
"That's what my dad calls him." Iris finished for Brynn. "Says he actually keeps score when it comes to arrests."
"He is pretty though." Iris said spinning in her chair a bit to look at him.

Iris headed out as the two Allen kids voyaged upstairs. "Bar?"
"Yes?" Barry hummed opening the lab door to find a puddle on the ground. Looking up the sibling found a leak in the roof and rain poring in.
Sitting down in the chair, "Do you have any painkillers? I have a horrible headache." Brynn said rubbing her temple. Barry shook his head, "I don't have anything here, sorry Lee."
Shaking her head, "It's okay. I'll be fine till Joe comes back." Barry ruffled her hair a bit before turning to his computer clicking it on, "I'm Linda Park, and we're live outside S.T.A.R.Labs, despite the inclement weather which is only going to get worse. The torrential downpour has in no way affected the particle accelerator, which is up and running smoothly according to S.T.A.R.Labs CEO Harrison Wells."
Barry walked over to his board and rolled the top up revealing his murder board on their mother. Brynn took a deep breath looking at the red strings crossing to picture to picture. Barry had pinned a paper to the board, looking the board over again.
Once the police arrived that day and little Brynnlee wasn't responding to anyone they immediately accused Henry Allen as the murder of Nora Allen.
Brynn tucked her legs to her chest as she watched Barry, "I'm sorry." Barry looked at her confused, "Lee, you didn't do anything wrong." She nodded slightly unable to look at him, "I couldn't tell them who did it. I still don't remember what happened that night. It's a blur. It's my fault they took him."
Barry kneeled down in front of his sister, "It's not your fault, okay." He asked making Brynn look at him, "Do you understand me?" Sniffling she nodded but before she could say anything an alarm went off on the computer making the two look over.
"Wait, we are now being told to evacuate the facility. The storm may have caused a malfunction to the primary cooling system. Officials are now trying to shut down the particle accelerator. But so far have been unable to regain-" The lady was cut off as the power stopped.
"Barry," Brynn asked unraveling her legs and standing up to be next to him. The two Allen kids watched as the particle accelerator went off sending a burst of energy into the sky travelling past them.
Barry walked over and began to open the sky roof where it was leaking before but stopped as he watched the liquids float upwards out of the beakers. Brynn noticing the same action walked closer tot he beakers as she watched them float above.
The lightning happen so fast Brynn didn't notice it. Barry had been stuck and it caused him to fly towards the shelfs, Brynn had been crushed onto the ground by one of the self's. Blood pouring out of her head, as a small whimper left her lips. She tried to stay awake but was pulled into the darkness as her head throbbed in pain.
