Culture

We walked in silence for a good while. I didnt mind though, I enjoyed the company, as much as I didnt want to admit. The project wasnt due for a month, which kind of worried me. I really hoped it would have been sooner. I just hope I dont have to leave before we get the project done.

"What do you mean?" Kiku questioned. I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at him with a confused look on my face.

"What?" I questioned. Was I...thinking outloud?

"Why would you leave?" Kiku asked, a look of concern on his face. I sighed, realizing that I did in fact think out loud.

"Oh, I didnt realize I said it outloud. But uh, my dad cant really keep a job...or a house for long, so we will move again at some point. I mean, this is the 7th school ive been to so far." I explained. Kiku frowned and thought for a moment.

"Well, moving around all the time isnt good for your grades...why dont you just find somewhere to stay while your father moves around?" Kiku asked. God I wanted to tell him that I couldnt because my father was a manipulative a**hole that needs me around for dumb reasons. But I cant say that.

"I just cant. I need to stay with my dad," I explained. I gave Kiku a certain look and he seemed to understand that I didnt want to talk about it more. We walked into class and i followed him to a spot. Like usual, the teacher came up and talked to me. I could tell by his accent that he was either japanese or Chinese, but it was kind of hard to tell at the moment.

After he finished talking to me, he sat on top of Kiku's desk and was chatting with him all casually. When Kiku tried calling him Mr. Wang, the teacher got a little irritated and told kiku to just call him by name. This was definently a very strange encounter and I was very much confused. Usually teachers don't like their students calling them by first names. After Mr. Wang left, Kiku noticed my confusion.

"He is my older brother. Our mother had him when she was 16, and didnt want him so she gave him up for adoption to a chinese family. We reconnected a while ago and now hes my teacher." Kiku explained. That made waaaaaaaaay more sense. I mean, if my sister became my teacher, im sure she wouldnt want me to call her Ms. (L/n).

Quickly, students piled in and the bell rang shortly after. Mr. Wang waited for a minute, looking through his notes. He finally found what he was looking for and started to hand out papers.

"Alright! Today we are going to be studying different cultures! I want you to get into small groups of no more than four! You will pick a country of your choice and explain the differences between their culture and the culture here in America! You will make a presentation of your choice, whether it be a power point, a speech, or whatever! More detailes are given in the packet so make sure to read it thoroughly! This will be due on Friday!" Mr. Wang explained.

Kiku and I put our desks like how we did in science and started to look through the packet. I meam, it seemed easy enough. I started to think of what we should do. Maybe Japan? I mean, Kiku is Japanese, so maybe he'll have a good idea what type of cultural differences there are between Japan and America.

"(Y/n)-san?" Kiku asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. I looked up at him to see him laugh softly.

"You are so deep in thought, but this is simple! He never said we couldnt do it on the country we are from, so lets do Japan! You know more about the culture here and I know more about the culture there so we should be done in no time!" Kiku explained.

"I was kind of thinking that, but I wasnt sure if you would want to do Japan!" I admitted with a laugh.

"I have a computer at home that we can use to look things up if we need to. So we can work on it after we get the flowers planted if you'd like," Kiku suggested. I smiled at the idea and nodded. I guess it would be a little easier to have a computer to use. I have one, but it is tucked away in a box, but I dont remember which one. I havent used it in forever though since its pointless to unpack when I'll just have to repack in a month or so. Even then, its not like my dad lets me get on it in the first place.

"That works! I havent unpacked my  computer yet, so would it be ok if I used yours a bit to do the research for our science project?" I questioned. I felt bad for asking that, but I really dont want to tear through boxes just to find my computer.

"Yeah of course!" Kiku replied. I smiled and nodded slightly. I glanced down at the paper then up at Mr. Wang. I raised a brow seeing him draw on the board. It was a very detailed panda.

"Wow, your brother is good!" I mentioned, watching Mr. Wang just go at the board. Kiku let out a small laugh.

"Yeah, he is. The first thing he did when he found our family was draw a family portrait. He said he wanted to remember his birth family even when he went back to China with his adopted family," Kiku explained. I couldnt help but smile.

"Thats sweet! Its always nice for family to be reunited!" I mentioned. I bit my lip slightly as my mother came into my thoughts. It doesnt help that I miss my sister too.
