3. the devil comes back to hell
Pacifica didn't remember punching him in the face, but when she finally calmed down and came out of her room, that's what Mabel told her.
Dipper laid on the couch, a bag of ice on his head, but he was still out cold.
"Damn I didn't know you punched that hard." Mabel commented, pointing a slender finger toward her unconscious brother. "He's been out for a bit."
Pacifica didn't acknowledge Mabel's attempt at a conversation. Hell, she didn't even want to talk to either of them. Dipper mostly.
"Look, Pacifica," Mabel sighed. "I didn't want to tell you Dipper was coming. I didn't even want him near you because I know how bad it was for you. I didn't want to put you through that again. But Stanford isn't doing well and he wanted Dipper around."
Pacifica gave a brief nod before staring out the window again.
"Are you going to say something?" Mabel asked, annoyance in her voice. "Because we'll be one step closer to solving this if you actually speak."
"I'm angry." Pacifica stated. "I never wanted to see him again. He played with my heart, told me things that I believed. Hell," she looked over at him, "for all I know he isn't who he says he is."
"I can tell that he is my brother, and he is named Dipper." Mabel informed. "Well, actually—"
"Look, I don't care!" Pacifica exploded in anger. "I don't give a damn about him anymore and if I'm being honest, I liked it better when he wasn't here, I've moved on, maybe you should too!"
Mabel leaned back in her chair, not entirely surprised by Pacifica's outburst. It was bound to happen sooner or later. "Move on? He's been missing for at least" —she counted silently to herself— "eight years of my life. I didn't even see him on holidays, or even our birthdays."
Pacifica stopped being angry with Mabel and actually felt sad. "E-Eight years?" If her counting was right, that meant he'd left home at age sixteen.
"Yeah." Mabel looked down at her lap. "But I've gotten over it. He isn't a family person, he's afraid of commitment, and one thing I've learned he doesn't like change."
Pacifica wanted to dig more into that, but she heard Dipper stir on the couch. He groaned but didn't open his eyes, showing he wasn't entirely conscious yet.
Mabel got up from where she sat and walked over to him. "You left a pretty nasty bruise, girl."
"Really?"
"Mhm." Mabel shifted the ice on his face. "It's impressive."
"It really shouldn't be." Pacifica looked away from Dipper, not trying to think of the moments they shared. It was done. She moved on.
He stirred once more and this time actually opened one eye. "Mabel?" He groaned.
"Surprise, bitch." Mabel smirked down at her brother. "It's about time you got up."
Dipper sat up and the bag of ice slid off his face and onto the couch. "Shit, how long was I out?"
He doesn't even know I'm right here. Pacifica bit her lip and kept quiet.
"Only a half hour." Mabel rolled her eyes. "Weak."
Dipper sat up and glared at her. "I'm not weak."
"You're here aren't you." She countered, but then remembered Pacifica was still in the room. "Never mind all that, I guess the important thing is that you're here and that's that."
"Right." Dipper pulled his bottom lip between his teeth. "Is she here."
It wasn't even a question when he said it. Like he didn't even care if she was there or not. It angered Pacifica, but she kept her mouth shut.
"If you mean Pacifica when you say 'she' then yes, she is." Mabel smiled widely at him. "She's the one who did that to you." She said as she pointed out the bruise forming by his left eye.
"Great." He muttered to himself. "This is fantastic."
"By here," Mabel tilted her head to where Pacifica was sitting, "I mean right here."
Dipper followed Mabel's gaze and his eyes met Pacifica's. Instead of being shocked like Pacifica expected he would be, his face stayed expressionless. "I see." He said.
Pacifica waited for him to say something. She waited for him to explode in anger at either one of them, or just start apologizing or something like that! But he just regarded her with his eyes, like what they had meant absolutely nothing to him.
And by the way he looked at her with nothing in his eyes, maybe it did.
