Chapter 76 - Faith & Observations
Within the streets of Vtopia, we see a black limousine as it was currently making its way to the outskirts of the city. Within the back of the limousine we see two particular individuals. Both of them being female as they are well known respectively amongst the Supernatural world.
The first is an eighteen year old girl who has well versed connections when it comes to both Humanity and the Supernatural. Having blonde hair and grey eyes, though with how grey they are, it would confuse someone to make them assume that she was blind, even if she's not. Her name is Höchstes Schicksal, or as she prefers to be referred to as Faith.
The other is a young mature-looking woman with long red hair with blue undertone and red eyes. Amongst most of the Supernatural, she is known as the Scarlet Queen, a warrior one wouldn't dare to face without having a good reason to. She is part of the SSF Unit known as Team Justice, who are amongst some of the best the Supernatural has to offer. She is actually the leader of Team Justice, but was sent under direct orders to keep an eye on Faith, as well as ensure her safety due to the High Society reports as of late. Her name is Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame.
The two knew each other, due to their different connections, as well as meeting once or twice before. Faith knew of the Scarlet Queen due to her fame and recognition as she has been quite a threat for those who stands in her way. Yet as for Elizabeth, she knew of Faith due to her family and her family's connections.
The Schicksal family is a rich and stable family within both sides of the world, originating from Europe. They seemed like ordinary Humans to most as they earned their wealth from business ventures and providing aid to those who truly needed it. However, they are actually connected to the Supernatural due to their affinity towards Wind Magic, as each of them have their own unique ways of utilizing their Wind Magic.
The Schicksal family is also indebted to the Co-Founders as they provide their funding and support towards what the Co-Founders strive for. Usually, even though the whole family is supposed to travel to Vtopia on certain occasions, they thought it would be better to allow their daughter Faith to travel there this time. As Faith is supposed to be the next heir to the family name, as well as soon inheriting what the family has earned through the years, she has a responsibility to fill.
Faith at the current moment was in a neutral mood, even though she felt rather concerned, yet irritated at the same time. Elizabeth has picked it up, though she never bothered to say much as she knew that Faith could probably handle herself.
Elizabeth: "Miss Faith, I'm genuinely confused on why you would decide to travel here on your own accord? I know your family and the Co-Founders usually have a form of partnership, but when it comes to arrangements, I would've imagined your family coming along for this particular occasion."
Faith then smiled lightly, even if her eyes were portraying a hint of concern.
Faith: "I understand what you mean Liz. However, there was something that was brought to my attention. You're currently aware of the situation that has been going on at Atlas right?"
Elizabeth: "I am. As far as the reports go, a particular AI has taken over the city. Though the group known as TEMPUS is currently dealing with the situation."
Faith: "That is what your reports say, though I'm not entirely convinced."
Elizabeth: "We aren't exactly allowed to intervene or get involved unless we're given the go ahead."
Faith: "I don't mean going against what the SSF or the Co-Founders want you to do. I simply think they've been holding back important information that needs to be known. If what some of the reports said were true, there's a chance that if we don't step in, it could get out of hand. Though I've also heard that an old of mine is in Atlas as well. I simply want to know the truth."
Elizabeth could tell that Faith was a kind and gentle soul, who clearly is also fairly intelligent for her age. She clearly has a mature mindset, while having a gentle nature.
Elizabeth: "I understand. Though I highly doubt you would need my protection."
Faith: "It's quite alright. Even if I'm against having a bodyguard around, it's nice to have some company."
Even though they returned to their usual silence, Faith had something on her mind. She was looking through the dark tinted windows as her mind was wandering off to an old friend of hers that she hasn't seen in about five years. She has been wondering to herself if he was doing alright, and if he could actually handle the current predicament. Of course she wouldn't ever doubt her friend, but she always saw him as someone who was close, so understandably she would be nervous for his wellbeing.
We then cut to the meeting room of the Co-Founders as they have been talking for what seemed to be for about what seemed to be roughly around half an hour at this point. They clearly have a lot of tension on their shoulders as they are currently discussing on what to do at the current moment. They have had some thoughts on how to proceed with things ever since two weeks ago when they had severed contact with TEMPUS for the time being, ensuring that Malware didn't have a way to sneak into their systems as well.
Gunrun was sitting in his chair as he was listening to the two other Co-Founders bicker amongst each other. Tanigo and Tazumi were trying to prove each other's points as it was clear that they couldn't come to an agreement. Both of the Co-Founders were standing next to each other, the tension in the room running thicker.
Tanigo: "We know that TEMPUS is within Atlas City. Even though they have remained within that warzone, they clearly wouldn't be able to hold out for long."
Tazumi: "You should realize that if we send in our forces, Malware could turn our tech against us. We can't take our chances like that."
Tanigo: "My students are there as well. While some of them have experience, they clearly aren't ready just yet for such a large scale threat!"
Tazumi: "Yes... Though think about it. Kukyona Sonzai, a powerful individual who has the power of Chaos Magic. Doppio Dropscythe, a delinquent who technically is a powerhouse. Zaion LanZa, a troublesome girl who came from a distant future that is also strong in her own regards. Lastly, there's Lukas Misaki, the Omni Magician. You allowed him to head there when he's clearly a target. What makes you think that you could turn away from that choice now?"
Tanigo: "Young Misaki clearly wasn't ready for such a threat like this! Zai wasn't in the right condition either! You are aware of the event that took place all those years ago? When Zai ended up massacring his own family? His Magic is unstable and uncontrollable at best. If we leave him for too long, he might cause another incident like the near annihilation of the Kukyona family!"
Tazumi: "Let's not forget that you put faith into him! You decided to keep him under your care when one of your Managers clearly wanted him locked up in SSF's top security prison!"
Tanigo: "The kid wasn't himself! It was unjust to simply lock him up for something he couldn't control at the time! With the right guidance, he could become one of the best we have to offer! He's a living being, not a cold blooded criminal!"
Gunrun: "That's enough, both of you. You two arguing isn't going to get us anywhere."
Both of the Co-Founders listened to what Gunrun said, making them both sigh as they knew he was right. Even if they had their differences, they have to put aside their grudges and focus on the important task at hand.
Tanigo: "You're right... We still need to come to a conclusion on how to proceed. We haven't had contact with TEMPUS ever since two weeks ago. While they can't exactly establish connections back to us because of Malware, there has to be a way to help them without causing problems..."
Tazumi then took his seat as he had his arms crossed, clearly unamused.
Tazumi: "What we need to do is simply send in some of our best to take care of the problem. For all we know, there's a likely chance that they could've been captured or killed..."
Gunrun: "As much as I hate that possible outcome, the logic doesn't sound too off..."
Tanigo: "But if we send in our forces, due to Malware's nature, there's a likely chance that she could take our technology and simply figure out where we are. We can't risk the lives of innocents in this matter..."
Gunrun: "We're all on edge... There's no clear answer for our approach in this situation. We can't just sit around and do nothing as well..."
Tazumi: "If we can't get an idea on what's going on overseas, we can't plan our next move..."
Tanigo: "There has to be a way for us to figure out how to observe without being detected... or perhaps get some of our SSF Units over there without problems..."
???: "It could be that you're all overthinking the situation."
The three Co-Founders, who were confused on who spoke, turned to the entrance of the room. They saw Faith walking in with her hands in front of herself, remaining elegant and calm, while Elizabeth walked in behind her as the doors closed shut.
Tanigo: "Ah, Young Faith! I wasn't expecting to see you back so soon."
Faith: "It's no trouble Mister Tanigo. However, I've come here on my own accord."
Gunrun: "You've grown up into a fine young woman now it seems. Making your own choices, just like your father."
Faith: "I thank you for the praise, Mister Gunrun."
Tazumi: "Elizabeth, why are you here with Faith?"
Elizabeth: "I apologize. The Head Officer ordered me to take care of her while she travelled out on her own, mainly because of the increasing threat of the High Society."
Tazumi then sighed, rubbing the side of his head, finding this to be a bit annoying. However, he couldn't complain about his Head Officer, who is technically in charge of the forces within the SSF.
Tazumi: "Yeah... Brisko knows how to put the safety of others first before his duties... However, why are you here Faith?"
Faith: "Well, I came all the way here wanting to know about the truth. The truth of what's exactly going on."
The Co-Founders looked at each other for a moment, trying to determine if they should tell her or not. However, they knew that if they lied to the daughter of one of their business partners, it could end badly and they could possibly cut ties with them if they wanted to. They knew that the Schicksal family are ones that prefer the terminology of, 'honesty is the best policy'. So the first to speak up was Gunrun.
Gunrun: "Well Faith, to tell you the truth, it isn't something that's... pretty."
Faith: "What is that supposed to mean?"
Tanigo: "You see... As of late, we believe that the Atlas Corporation has been working with the High Society."
Faith's eyes widened in surprise as she knew the Hardway family personally. Of course they were quite a stubborn family, always focusing on their business and what they deemed necessary for their security. However, she wouldn't have guessed that the High Society was involved with them in the first place. The current head of Atlas Corporation wasn't really the type to stoop to that low of a level, that much she was certain of.
Faith: "Are you certain?"
Tazumi: "We have evidence. As far as the group that is currently handling the situation within Atlas City has sent to us, Hardway had his connections with the High Society. This dates back to his market, how much he sold, how much he produced. There was even an AI that was pulling the strings as she was the true connection to the High Society. Yet she even looked like a particular student..."
Gunrun: "I know what you're thinking Tazumi, but Melody isn't like that."
Tazumi: "How sure can you be? They look identical, and they clearly knew each other."
Tanigo: "That is because she is from another Timeline, a distant future. We don't know how she ended up here, but she clearly had help. However, this AI, known as Malware has taken control over Atlas City. Taking control of Atlas Corporation's military AI systems as she practically has an army under her belt."
Gunrun: "Yet, thanks to the efforts of TEMPUS, they've managed to cut the supplies of the Atlas Corporation to an incredible degree. So she should only have her ATLAS Combat Units stationed within the city itself."
Tazumi: "Yet due to the takeover, if we were to count the possible casualties, about over ninety percent of the population within the city was killed."
Faith: "I see... That is quite a problem. Yet why haven't you sent in forces to deal with the situation?"
Tanigo: "Because Malware has the capabilities of hacking into any form of technology, at least according to what TEMPUS has sent us."
Gunrun: "It's likely that she would be able to turn our own forces against us. If we sent them in blind, we could lose even more casualties than prevent them."
Faith: "Though I've also heard that you've sent two particular individuals over there at the moment. Kukyona Sonzai, and the Omni Magician. Am I correct on this?"
Tanigo: "Yes, you are..."
Faith: "Though I haven't heard much about this generation's Omni Magician, I do believe that he's in capable hands?"
Tazumi: "If you could count Zai being the capable hands, I doubt it."
Faith: "And why's that?"
While there was a form of hesitation from the Co-Founders, they weren't exactly sure on how to put it to her. However, Elizabeth decided to speak up, putting her hand on Faith's shoulder.
Elizabeth: "Kukyona Sonzai ended up in... a particular situation that wasn't made completely public as of yet."
Faith: "Why's that Liz?"
Elizabeth: "It's because... Sonzai killed his entire family."
Faith: "Wait... What...?"
Tanigo: "What Bloodflame means is that a couple of years ago, Zai ended up losing control of his power. Causing chaos and going on a rampage. The aftermath wasn't exactly the most pleasing."
Tazumi: "The death toll was rather big. There was a town that was caught in the massacre. The total adds up to two hundred and three deaths, including the murder of his entire family."
Gunrun: "The only person available at the time, one of Yagoo's Managers, Enma was able to knock him out before he caused more trouble. The damage was hard to cover up in the end."
Elizabeth: "Because of this, there was a discourse on what to exactly do with Sonzai. Some who survived the massacre were left with not only physical, but also mental scaring. Some deemed him to be too dangerous, like an animal who'd destroy everything if left for too long. Some would rather see him executed or locked up for what he did. However, under the unanimous decision of the Co-Founders, they decided to let Yagoo keep a close eye on Sonzai to ensure that he doesn't do anything wrong. It was more of a merciful way of trying to integrate him back into society without causing any harm, thus also requiring those who are aware of the incident to cover it up and hide the truth."
Faith was absolutely dumbfounded. She was unsure if what they said were true, but she knew Zai better than most as she was a close friend to him. Deep down, she knew that Zai wouldn't have killed his own parents in cold blood. Zai isn't the type to simply do that, even if he did dislike his family, it wasn't to that degree. Though she could admit that crimes can't be overlooked, she can't help but hope that Zai is truly innocent and that the matter is well taken care of.
However, she then remembered that since Tazumi mentioned that it was a bad idea for Zai to be the one who watches over the Omni Magician, she needed to know what he meant.
Faith: "Mister Tazumi, what did you mean earlier when it came to Zai?"
Tazumi: "His Magic is rather unstable. From the reports that Yagoo's Managers have managed to bring in, his Magic would become stronger when there's more chaos. Hence why it's known as Chaos Magic. However, the more he seems to use it, the more unstable his mind becomes. He would lose his senses, become irrational, have short tempers, even having outbursts of anger towards others. Some even claim that he has a killer's intent, or the eyes of a predator that would kill anybody that would get in the way."
Faith's eyes then narrowed, coming to the conclusion that while Zai's Magic may be quite fatal and numbing, it's clear that something isn't right about it. Faith could only assume that perhaps there's an external force at play, something that's within him that could be causing him to be the way he currently is. However, she had to remain headstrong. She has to put faith into Zai, for both herself, and for his sake. She had a small gentle smile on her face.
Faith: "Listen Mister Tazumi. I know you have your worries, and you have every rite to be afraid of what could happen. However, you should put some faith into him. In fact, not only should you put faith into Zai, but into those who are fighting alongside him. Besides, he's got the Omni Magician by his side does he not?"
The Co-Founders, alongside Elizabeth were quite shocked by how calm Faith was with the information she received. Though Tanigo was the first to speak.
Tanigo: "Well yes... but you see... Lukas Misaki isn't exactly the Omni Magician you would imagine Young Faith..."
Faith: "No worries, I quite understand. Yet, the First Omni Magician was able to unite both Humanity and the Supernatural through her own means. While other Omni Magicians have failed to succeed to those degrees, it doesn't mean that he can't. Have some faith in him too, and perhaps, they'll all make it back safe and sound. So as a decision, after this predicament is over, I'm willing to make a compromise. The Atlas Corporation has been focusing too much on their militaristic approaches throughout the years, but I think it's time for a new management. One that isn't focused on war, but on unity. Where the Humanity doesn't need to fear the Supernatural anymore, nor does the Supernatural have to worry about Humanity either. Hardway has outlived his welcome, he has provided support, but I think he has crossed the line. I'm heading to Atlas City as soon as possible."
The Co-Founders widened their eyes in surprise as what she was suggesting herself to do sounded suicide given the current situation. However, Elizabeth spoke up.
Elizabeth: "It is rather risky for what you're suggesting Miss Faith. However, I don't think it's impossible either. If we hurry and prepare, we might be able to get there in time."
Gunrun: "Well... We can't exactly stop you Faith, can we?"
Faith: "You know me, once I've made up my mind, I'm not backing down."
Tanigo then sighed, looking to the side, then back to her.
Tanigo *Thoughts*: "It honestly makes sense now... I can't believe that she's picked up this kind of behaviour from Young Sonzai... Yet she strangely has that determination similar to that of Young Misaki... She's a strange girl, but one we can come to respect at least..."
Tanigo: "Alright... Tazumi, inform the Head Officer to prepare some Units to head out. They need to head to Atlas City as soon as possible to ensure the safety of those who's still alive."
Tazumi was honestly surprised that Tanigo would actually agree to this. Even if it wasn't as large scale as he would've wanted it to be to take down this Malware, it was partially what he wanted in the end anyways.
Tazumi: "Very well, I'll make the call now."
With that, the Co-Founders came to an agreement that Faith along with some SSF Units will head to Atlas City as soon as possible. However, outside through the windows of the meeting room, we could see the Keeper of Nature, Ceres Fauna watching from behind the trees. She knew exactly what was going on, smiling lightly to herself as she was glad that someone was willing to go to Atlas City.
???: "Fauna, what are you doing out here?"
Fauna heard a familiar voice from behind herself as she wasn't expecting anybody to find her out here at least. Though when she turned around, she could recognize the hooded figure as her long tied up brown hair and dusty brown eyes were quite recognizable. Yet she was also holding a lantern to provide some light. This individual is a member of the same Council Fauna is a part of, being the Guardian of Civilization, Nanashi Mumei.
Fauna: "Oh Mumei. What are you doing here?"
Mumei: "I asked you first Fauna."
Fauna: "Well, I was simply curious."
Mumei: "Honestly, you should be happy that it wasn't Kronii that found you out here. She isn't exactly happy if we neglect our duties at times..."
Fauna: "I know, but I can feel that something's off..."
Mumei knew exactly what Fauna was talking about, as they've been having a bad feeling throughout these recent days. They could feel the shifts within the natural balance of the world, like as if there's a conflict that was about to go down, one that could decide the very balance of Nature and Civilizations as well.
Mumei: "Yeah... However, the Omni Magician is about to face a conflict head on, and Kronii is intending on watching the whole thing."
Fauna then widens her eyes for a moment, being confused on why Kronii would even go and watch the whole thing.
Fauna: "Why would Kronii go there and watch for herself? I thought she didn't have any interests outside of her duties?"
Mumei: "She said that it was because of the fact that this matter was also affecting the balance of Time as well. She told us that she'll deal with the matter herself if the Omni Magician fails in fixing the balance."
Mumei then sighs, turning around as she says her next words in a lower tone.
Mumei: "I just hope that this Omni Magician isn't like the others... Come on Fauna, we should get back to the Council before they question where we are."
Fauna: "Of course..."
Fauna then followed Mumei as she now felt conflicted. She was aware of who this current generation's Omni Magician is. She knows that Lukas Misaki is a kind boy who simply was thrusted into the responsibility he wasn't ready for as of yet. However, considering Kronii's history with the First Omni Magician, Fauna understandably is quite worried for Lukas's safety.
Fauna *Thoughts*: "Lukas... Just be careful..."
