Chapter 7 - Combat Class, A New Rival and An Ambush

The third day has arrived for Lukas and so far he felt like a wreck in the morning. Zai could tell by him having bag under his eyes but he didn't bother to ask and just let him have his own personal space. But while walking through the halls of the Academy with Zai, Lukas could notice multiple stares directly towards him. He felt really uncomfortable about it and just kept his head down to hide his insecurities and how uncomfortable he is.

But Zai noticed this and decided to say something to every student that was staring at Lukas.

Sonzai: "ALRIGHT ENOUGH WITH THE STARES! DON'T Y'ALL HAVE CLASSES TO ATTEND TO!?"

When the students heard what Zai had said, they didn't expect him to lash out at them, but they knew him all too well to not defy him so they all dispersed, no longer paying attention to Lukas as they all went to their classes. Lukas was still feeling uncomfortable, but he couldn't help himself by smiling lightly at Zai.

Lukas: "Thanks Zai..."

Sonzai: "It ain't a problem bud. Popularity is a bit of a nerve at the start, but you get used to it. But the best and most effective way to cope with it is simple, don't pay attention to them at all and just do what you love doing."

Lukas: "I'll try to i-improve on that..."

Zai just sighs, but doesn't even bother to speak any further because he believed that he did what was right for the new guy. So the two managed to reach their class on time and went to do their usual things. Lukas sat alone again, drawing this time as he was trying to draw what he saw last night. The perspective he had when he was confronted by his darker self.

Every bit and detail was precise. Once he was done, he noticed something interesting about it. The silhouette is very similar to him but the main difference was that the shadow's hair was mainly more messy, allowing both eyes to reveal themselves. The expression felt dead, unforgiving...

Ina: "Got a new drawing?"

Lukas didn't get scared this time luckily and he turned to see Ina standing by his desk.

Lukas: "Yeah..."

Ina: "What is the meaning behind this one?"

Lukas: "Mainly... You could say it is l-like looking at your c-counterpart..."

Ina: "I see. Do you want to talk about it? I am all ears."

Her smile was still gentle and she was trying to keep things polite. But before Lukas could talk, Akuma-Sensei was already in the classroom and everyone went to their seats as the lessons started.

Through the History lesson, he didn't really pay attention to it because of what Ina said earlier. But the lesson went by quickly as the next and new lesson was going to begin. The students of 1A travelled through the halls until they came across the classroom door. The moment they entered, Lukas was staggered by this sudden change. A very large room that could possibly feel like a gymnasium was filled to the brim with white marble colours. This place could even feel like a combat simulation from a game that Lukas used to play before he stopped playing games to focus on himself.

The students noticed that there was no seats or anything of the sort, which worried some but some just remained calm. But the teacher that is supposed to teach them arrived, landing on the ground that released a gust of wind that forces most of the students to try and remain on their feet. Once it had settled, the figure was fully revealed to be wearing a skin tight suit, a high tech helmet and a jacket. Once the helmet removed itself, it revealed the teacher's face.

Zentreya: "Greetings 1A. I am Zentreya, Combat Instructor and teacher of Class 1C. I apologise for my entry since I arrived late today."

Her voice sounded a bit robotic, but everyone still listened to her with their full attention. Lukas looked up to see that the roof was open but it shut itself slowly.

Zentreya: "With you all here now, it would be best for me to explain today's exercise. You all have unique skills and Magic that can compliment each other. However that doesn't mean that you all have a grasp on what you hold within. For this exercise we will be focusing on how you can harness your Magic into offense."

Then from out of nowhere, holographic images started to form into physical constructs of machinery. There were at least twenty of them, making it the exact same amount as the students.

Zentreya: "These machines can withstand most Magics and can also handle physical combat. They were programmed and designed to take down the Supernatural who went rampant. These things will keep you on your feet, making you have to adapt and force yourself to improve. Your training will begin shortly, get ready."

Everyone had to get ready for the robots they each had to fight. But Lukas was taking his time, taking off his school blazer, hanging it over one of the benches that was to a very far corner. He was nervous and understandably, he had never been in a situation like this before, so he was confused on how he was supposed to deal with things like this. Even though everyone had to face their robot head on trying to improve themselves, they still had to keep their Glamour on, limiting themselves if Lukas was thinking correctly. He knows that some of the students in his class don't need Glamour since they look very human anyways.

Sonzai: "Hey bud. You nervous?"

Lukas: "Yeah..."

Sonzai: "Look, I don't know my own Magic completely so you and I are in sort of the same boat."

Lukas: "But we aren't.."

Sonzai: "What makes you say that?"

Lukas: "Y-You were exposed to the Supernatural l-longer than me.."

Sonzai: "Touché."

Zai shrugs it off, but Ina also approaches Lukas as well.

Ina: "You two going to be alright?"

Sonzai: "You don't need to worry about me, but I think Lukas might need some encouragement."

Zai says this in a way that would make Lukas get the wrong idea. Lukas's face started to turn to a bright pink as half of his face was already covered by his fringe anyways.

Lukas: "Zai!"

Zai was laughing at Lukas's reaction but calms down a bit.

Sonzai: "I was joking man. But I am serious though, you might need some words to improve yourself bud. I am going to head over to my robot now, so I will see you after the lesson, unless we somehow tapping out at the same time."

Zai then just walks off, making Lukas sigh in aggravation, a little annoyed and unsure on how he was supposed to react.

Ina: "Well, you haven't really used Magic before right?"

Lukas: "No.."

Ina: "Well it is quite simple. Since you are an Omni Magician, it should be a lot easier for you. Your mind is your limit. Think of it like this, each form of Magic can represent one's emotions sometimes, which can reveal one's true colours. But another way to use it is to imagine on the way you want to use it. Your body will react accordingly by instinct, allowing you to use what you want to use."

Lukas blinked a few times until he understood what Ina meant. He nodded, thanking her for the advice and while he walked towards his robot that he had to face, his right hand was holding the pendant around his neck, keeping himself calm. He could see that everyone else was focused on their robot, so he wouldn't necessarily be watched by anyone, which calmed his nerves a bit. Once he arrived, the robot was ready to start, awaiting for the signal.

The first thing that came to his mind was trying to empty his mind, closing his own eyes in the process. This emptied out all of his worries, concerns, fears, anything that he saw as a negative. He could strangely hear the subtle breezes that kept coming from the windows that sat high up very close to the ceiling. His fingers were twitching, his body was relaxed. He could feel the build up of swirling force building up from his hands alone. Once he opened his eyes, he aimed his right hand in the shape of a finger gun, then releasing a burst of sharp but high pressured wind from his fingers. It shot out towards the robot, which tanked the hit but did knock it back off balance.

He blinked a few times, looking at his hand, realizing what he just did. He felt excited for some reason, doing this kind of thing for the first time. But his mind was interrupted when the robot came up running towards him. He started panicking but then slipped on his own shoe, making the robot miss its attack. But upon instinct his right hand reached out while falling, making him fire out a burst of wind at the robot again. This pressure knocked the robot back and sent him further back, landing on his back.

He sat up, rubbing his back in pain. It was really painful since he had never exercised much in his life, except for the Physical Exercise lessons back in his old school. The robot caught up immediately, trying to hit him again, but as its fist was about to slam down towards him, he rolled out of the way, immediately getting back onto his feet. For once in his life, this wasn't fear, nor his flight response. But this was exciting to him. The thrill of the moment he had never felt before, making him wonder if this was how martial artists always felt in tournaments.

After a couple of hours, the training was over and he was really, really tired. The fact he didn't get hit at all felt like a miracle. He was sitting on the ground, panting heavily while sweating. His arms ached like as if he had been applying so much pressure in them for too long. As he got back up, he could feel someone staring at him. It didn't feel right, so when he turned to look, it was Doppio Dropscythe who was putting his blazer but looked away the moment Lukas looked. Lukas was unsure what kind of stare it was, but he could tell it was no good.

So he went to the bench which had his blazer, limping most of the way since at one point he felt like he sprained his knee a bit. Once he sat down, he put on his blazer, looking out the windows above seeing that it was closing in to sunset.

???: "Hey Omni guy!"

He jumped in surprise when he heard someone call him that. So when he looked to where the voice came from, he saw Zaion who was walking towards him.

Lukas: "Y-Yes Zaion..?"

Zaion: "I watched how you fought the robot earlier and I will say, I am not impressed."

Lukas: "Well can't say I'm that surprised.."

Zaion: "Listen here pal, you may be an Omni Magician, but I won't let you get ahead of me that easily and that much I promise you."

It felt like she was staring into his very soul. It was really uncomfortable for him, but she then walked away, confusing him on what exactly happened.

Sonzai: "Looks like you found yourself a rival."

Lukas jumped off the bench in surprise, seeing Zai standing on the bench while squatting.

Sonzai: "Sorry to scare you there bud. But I couldn't help but notice your conversation."

Lukas: "I wouldn't c-consider that a conversation.."

Sonzai: "No worries. Well you should head home now. I got something to take care of since Yagoo-San wants me to meet up with him to discuss about something."

Lukas: "O-Okay.."

Lukas then heads on out of the room, making his way out of the Academy's grounds. But as he was taking one of the shortcuts home, which was mainly through the underground train station, he was shoved against the wall. The figure's arm was squeezing against his neck, making it difficult for him to breathe. When Lukas got a better look at the person, he noticed that this person was wearing a dark cloak and a strange mask that had a smile.

Lukas was struggling to break free but he couldn't.

???: "No use in trying to break free Omni Magician."

Lukas: "H-H-How..?"

He couldn't get any words out due to how sore his throat was getting due to the pressure alone.

???: "Be quiet, this will be all over soon."

Lukas continued to struggle, he didn't want to die or anything of the sorts. But then suddenly a punch head straight for the masked man, knocking him away and letting Lukas go. He was coughing for air but when he looked up at who saved him, it was Doppio.

Dropscythe: "I advise you to stay down for now. I will first deal with this punk."

However the figure started running away, making Doppio try to yell at him to stop and chase. But however Lukas instinctively fired off a burst of wind that somehow dislocates the figure's leg. Making him fall to the ground. Doppio was impressed, but he didn't show it. Doppio sighed.

Dropscythe: "Nice shot, but once you recover, go home and make sure you never go down this way. Got it you idiot?"

All Lukas could do was nod and once he was able to properly stand, he immediately started to head home. But the most awkward part was that he arrived the same time as Zai and they ended up this time having a decent meal together, though Lukas didn't want to mention his encounter with that masked figure, preferring to keep his problems to himself and tonight was but a relaxing one for Lukas.
