Chapter 66 - Operation ATLAS
The Operation was underway as Zentreya led her team to the abandoned warehouse which belonged to a subsidiary of the Atlas Corporation. They awaited their signal as this was going to be a difficult Operation, considering that Lukas was a rookie when it came to this sort of thing. Zentreya approached Lukas.
Zentreya: "Lukas Misaki, you ready?"
Lukas: "As ready as I can be miss Zentreya..."
Zaion: "We got your back as long as you stick with us. We won't be doing too much fighting unless we end up fighting some of their elite units."
Dropscythe: "They'll be a piece of cake. Whether they were created to stop us or not, we'll take them down."
Lukas took this all into consideration as he nodded his head, trying to remain positive and confident in his demeanour. Zentreya then received the transmission from Altare.
Altare: "Zentreya, we're approaching the base now, be ready when I give you the signal."
Zentreya: "Of course."
Zentreya did a nodding motion when she informed her team to get ready. We then cut to the skies of Canada where we can see a strange red VTOL as it was flying at high speeds above the clouds towards the mountain they were heading to. In the pilot's seat was Flayon as he turned his head to the other four in the back.
Flayon: "We are approaching the base now!"
Altare: "Alright, you'll have to land us down so we can charge head first."
Melody then chimed in through the earpiece that Altare had.
Melody: "Negative. They have ATLAS Combat Units set up throughout the entrance to the base as well as anti-aircraft weaponry. You'll need a different approach."
Altare: "Roger that. Alright then, we'll have to do it the old fashioned way. Flayon, can you get us above their base?"
Flayon: "I can definitely pull that off!"
Hakka: "Wait! So we're going to jump!?"
Shinri: "There's no other choice in the matter. They would most likely find our LZ and simply destroy our only transport."
Flayon: "And me! Don't forget about me!"
Axel: "If we get too close, they'll shoot us out of the sky."
Flayon: "Don't worry everyone! This isn't my first rodeo as some may put it!"
Then sounds started blaring from the cockpit as Flayon was looking at what the problem was, realizing that they must've entered their radius as he knew exactly what to do next.
Flayon: "They've spotted us! Get ready, because this is going to be one hell of a show!"
Altare, Hakka, Axel and Shinri nodded their heads in unison as they got ready to hop out when they were able to. The base's defences, set up at the top of the mountain began to open fire with their anti-aircraft cannons, forcing Flayon to perform evasive manoeuvres. Each shot exploded close to the hull of the VTOL, but Flayon was able to narrowly avoid the explosion radius of the explosive shells.
Flayon: "Well boys! If you all want me to be able to pick you up, you'll need to get rid of those damned AA guns!"
Altare: "Then that will be our first objective then! You three ready!?"
Axel/Hakka/Shinri: "Yes sir!"
Flayon then opened the back end of the VTOL as they were looked down at the base in question, noticing its pointy peak design that was carved out by the very nature of the mountain itself.
Altare: "Alright, let's go!"
The three then leapt out of the VTOL as Altare led the charge forward to the ground below. However some of the ATLAS Combat Units noticed the three as they began to raise their assault rifles into the air, firing at them.
Altare knew exactly what to do as he took out his weapon, which appeared to be a gunblade in nature. It began to glow as he increased the speed of his descent, slashing at the shots that came his way. Axel simply increased the speed of his descent as well as he summoned his mighty axe in question, preparing his strong attack. Within instinctive succession, Altare moved right next to Axel, appearing as a blue streak as he started to spin Axel around in the air.
Axel then was eventually let go as his speed tripled as he was somehow immediately close to the ground, swinging his great axe onto the concrete as it released a shockwave of energy that hit all of the surrounding ATLAS Combat Units, knocking them off of their feet or simply destroying them in the process. Though before some of the ATLAS Combat Units that were on a higher elevation of ground could open fire, Shinri and Altare fired their perspective ranged attacks at them, neutralizing them with ease.
Soon enough, the other three landed on their feet gracefully right next to Axel, while Axel chuckled a little, looking at the destruction they have caused at the base's entrance.
Axel: "Now this will definitely get their attention."
Altare: "We should get moving then if we want to ensure that Zentreya's team can set those charges up."
Axel: "With you on that one."
The four then began to make their way into the base. However within some part of the lower levels of the base, we could see four people immediately appear out of the one-way system that was set up, that being Zentreya's team. They found themselves in what seemed to be some form of communications room as they weren't exactly sure on where to go from there.
Dropscythe: "Where the hell are we?"
Zaion: "This seems to be a communications room. We could cut off their communication channels?"
Melody then chimed in through their earpieces as she agreed to Zaion's logic.
Melody: "That would be for the best. However I think I have another thing for you lot to do as well if you're able to cut off their communications."
Zentreya: "Tell us what we need to do."
Melody: "It's simple really. I need you lot to also get me into their mainframe so I can steal some of their data before the base goes boom you know?"
Lukas: "I could go and find the mainframe's main terminal if you want?"
Zentreya: "Negative Misaki. We need to stick together."
Zaion: "No, Misaki is right Zentreya. If one of us can head to the terminal while we three handle the communications and the charges, we could possibly handle two birds with one stone."
Melody: "That is risky, but it could be worth it."
Zentreya: "Alright fine. However, Misaki, I need you to head back to us right away when you are done."
Lukas: "R-Right!"
With that, a new plan was set into action. Zentreya, Zaion and Dropscythe would handle the communications and the charges for the lower levels as Lukas would travel alone to find the main terminal to get Melody into the mainframe. Lukas then began to run as fast and as quietly possible to not alert any of the ATLAS Combat Units that could still be around.
Each step he took while running left echoes throughout the hallways as he checked every corridor to ensure he wasn't running into any security. Though after a few minutes, Zaion was able to disable the communications, which gave the enemy a disadvantage so they couldn't communicate across to one another, jamming their short and long range coms.
Yet during that time, Altare's team already managed to cover around one of the supports of the base, having those charges set up.
Altare: "Alright! This one's done! Onto the next!"
The rest agreed as they begun making their way through the base, yet they still had to deal with the incoming robots that were in the way, forcing them to simply destroy them before they could progress. Yet it was more of a cakewalk for the four of them as it was too easy. Though as they found the next support, Axel and Hakka quickly begun to set up the charges.
Then Altare received information from Zentreya through his earpiece.
Zentreya: "Altare. We have completely severed their communications for the time being. We'll begin setting up the charges on the lower levels now."
Altare: "Glad to hear it."
Altare nodded to himself, knowing that this was going better than he had hoped. Even though this base was enormous for its size, it was clear that this place wasn't much of a military outpost, more of a construction facility. Back with Lukas, he managed to find the main room which contained the servers that he needed to get to.
Lukas: "Melody, I made it to the server room."
Lukas began to walk through the large server room, containing many levels of servers that stacked on top of one another, though it was very clear that each of them contained particular information.
Melody: "Good, I need you to get into a particular server, though the one thing that ATLAS does tend to do is label their products and servers. Search for server B-1039C. I know it sounds weird, but look for it."
Lukas sighed, looking really carefully for the main server he is supposed to look for. However with there being possibly over thousands of servers, it would be nearly impossible to find it. Lukas had to relax, take a calm deep breath so he could figure out how to proceed. Once his body was less tense, he began looking carefully with his sight, yet Veladora began to speak up.
Veladora: "We need to find a server of that particular label?"
Lukas: "That much is obvious Vela."
He then began to use his Wind Magic to propel himself around, looking at all the possible servers at incredible speeds as this would help him search at a quicker pace as he knows that he doesn't have a lot of time. After spending about a few minutes searching, he eventually found it as he landed by it.
Lukas: "Okay Melody, I found the server."
Melody: "Alright, patch me in by accessing the server. I'll do the work."
He then nods as he begins to do exactly as Melody instructs him to do, guiding him through the process and the steps until she had full access to the mainframe of the entire base. While he waited, he then heard a sound he didn't expect to hear in a long time. A sound of what could be metallic rattling sounds.
He remained as calm as possible as he could hear subtle heavy metallic steps. It was slow, but it was clear to be trying to stealth around him. He then instinctively rolled out of the way as the figure landed right where he was originally. When Lukas got a better look at who it was, he recognized the robot immediately as Shadow, the assassin robot that tried to kill him a few months back.
Lukas: "Who would've thought that I would run into you again..."
Although he had his first encounter with Shadow before, he doesn't want to make the same mistakes he did before. Though with the servers being here, he knows that he would have to lead Shadow away so it doesn't get in the way.
Lukas: "Alright then... If you want to fight... Then come and get me..."
He says as calmly as possible to not give away his nervous nature. We then cut back to the TEMPUS HQ as we see Kukyona Sonzai resting on a bed, stirring a bit in his sleep as he was sweating profusely.
[FLASHBACK]
His dream acted more like a flashback as it takes place during the time of himself being chained up a bit, being rather tired and bruised up. He seemed to have been in some sort of fight, though his clothes were still soaked in a bit of blood. Even though his vision was blurry, he could see the two people talking in front of him within an office room.
One of them was Enma, who was technically having her arms crossed underneath her chest as she seemed to have narrowed eyes. The other person was Motoaki Tanigo, who seemed to be moving his arms about, trying to explain himself to her as like the two were not on equal terms. Zai couldn't make out his facial features in the moment, but he could at least hear the two, even if it was through the sound of ringing eardrums.
Tanigo: "Enma, you know as well as I do that the Kukyona are very useful."
Enma: "Yet this boy, probably being the only survivor of that family, slaughtered them all in cold blood Yagoo. That thing, whatever is inside of him drove him to causing a catastrophe. An embodiment of Chaos!"
Tanigo: "I know how weird it sounds, but there has to be an explanation to why he killed his own family."
Enma: "I highly doubt that Yagoo. You know as well as I do that each generation of the Kukyona bloodline gets stronger. He could be too strong for his own good. Having a power that is beyond his control."
Tanigo: "Enma. We've encountered people before who didn't have original control over their own power, but learnt how to utilize it to some degree at least!"
Enma: "Ina'nis is an exception! Her power is at least stored in a book! His power is stored within himself! Like a tank that is willing to go boom at any moment!"
Tanigo then sighed as he knew that Enma is slightly unreasonable at the moment as he turned to look at Zai, showing that he has a form of concern written over his face. It was clear that he knew of the Kukyona family, he is aware of their significance. However, what he showed wasn't a form of pity, it was more of a form of sorrow. He felt bad for the boy and he didn't want his potential to be wasted, nor did he want him to be locked up by the SSF's top maximum security.
Tanigo: "But locking him up, or killing him won't solve anything. If we get him to at least learn how to control himself, he could be a key factor when it comes to unifying the Supernatural with Humanity."
Enma: "Are you crazy? That's supposed to be the work of the Omni Magician Yagoo."
Tanigo: "I'm aware, but if the Omni Magician doesn't exist at the moment, Kukyona Sonzai is the only hope we have..."
Zai's vision then began to turn into a red blur as he couldn't focus anymore. He couldn't hear the voices properly as his head was starting to hurt. His face showed visible pain, even if it was slightly from his physical portion, it was mostly from his own head. Due to him being chained up, he couldn't clutch his own head as he tried to bear with it.
He heard a voice echo through his head, forcing him to kill. He tried to ignore it, but he was failing the whole time. He could hear his own parents dying, screams of agony and torment. A maniacal laughter being rung through his own ears. He closed his eyes, wanting to forget, however when he opened them again, he found himself standing within his family home.
He was at the entrance as he saw his family members laying on the floor, a pool of blood soaked the magnificent carpets that was placed along this once beautiful home. His heart was hurting, an aching sensation while beating really fast, making him clutch his own chest as he was sweating profusely.
He couldn't describe the feeling at this very moment. Was he in pain? Was this a form of grief? A form of hatred? Sorrow? He couldn't understand as he was doing everything he could to calm down, but nothing was working. However, he then heard footsteps coming towards him, making him look at the figure walking over the corpses of his family.
His eyes widened in fear, horror stricken as his face turned pale. He couldn't believe what he was looking at. It was like looking in a mirror, but instead, it was of his evil half, the embodiment of Chaos that resides within himself. It let out a laughter of a howl, its tail being coated in that red electrical energy he fondly remembered.
Yet the being approached him, appearing in front of him almost immediately as fear had taken over. He couldn't move as he had no choice but to look into its dull blank red eyes. It was like looking at himself, he knew how this being came to be, how his power came to be. Ever since that day, he vowed to himself that he would never resort to using his power so much, nor use it for any intentions like killing ever again.
Yet it seems like this power inside of him was always building up, wanting to break free and cause a rampage. The imagery that was planted in his head when he thought of the rampage that plagued his mind was gruesome, horrific and vile. Most of the Supernatural would be wiped out, while Humanity would be driven to extinction. His newest friends he made at the Academy, they all being left on the ground in a pool of blood. Yet what broke him the most, was when he saw Lukas' body, impaled by a dark figure that looked exactly like himself. Like a dark version of Zai as he had a devilish smirk as it seemed to enjoy the slaughter.
[FLASHBACK END]
That was the breaking point as he woke up from the nightmare, screaming on the top of his lungs as he began panting heavily. Sweat beading down his face as he knew it all too well. He sighed, knowing that what he saw wasn't true, though deep down, he was hoping that it wasn't completely.
He looked around, noticing that he was in a bedroom. He recognized it as being one of the TEMPUS HQ's main bedrooms as he stood up, trying to remember exactly what happened. He remembered that he managed to bring back Henya, learn more about what they were dealing with. Yet then he finally remembered the last moments of what happened before he fell into unconsciousness, the argument he had with Lukas.
Of course he would feel bad for what he did, but the fact that Regis Altare somehow held him down, with Zentreya knocking him out with a swift neck chop, it was clear that he did step out of line. He didn't get much sleep after all and his mind does feel refreshed now as it was able to think more clearly. He then realized something, he couldn't feel some of the people's presences, making him wonder what's going on as he began to make his way through the headquarters, trying to get some answers....
