Chapter 42 - The Second Semester Begins!

After the vacation and a week break, the Second Semester was starting today, a Monday of all days as Lukas got up from his bed, feeling rather rejuvenated than usual. He got himself ready for a regular school day from what he could remember, however while having early breakfast, Zai figured he would tell Lukas something as he seemed to be rather serious.

Sonzai: "Hey Lukas."

Lukas: "Yes Zai?"

Sonzai: "I just want to inform you so long that I will be rather busy today, mostly dealing with business."

Lukas: "I see. I understand Zai. I can walk to the Academy by myself I'm sure."

Sonzai: "Well it isn't mainly just that. Since the High Society is starting to make themselves more known, I might be gone for a little while from Academics. So I won't be attending classes and I'll be focusing on other things."

Lukas: "I understand Zai... If you need to catch up, I'll tell you everything you've missed."

Zai smiled at Lukas, glad to have a reliable friend.

Sonzai: "Thanks Lukas. Now you better get going soon, you need to start your Second Semester with not being late right?"

Lukas: "Yeah, you're right."

Sonzai: "Also, take this."

Zai then tossed him a set of keys, which Lukas managed to catch them, looking at the keys with a bit of confusion.

Sonzai: "Those are your set of keys for your new living environment. Akuma-Sensei will show you where you're going to be staying tomorrow onwards as since it would be better for you to be closer to a safer space."

Lukas was never informed this, but he simply got the idea anyways. Lukas was told by Zai a few times that ever since Zai has been meddling in some of the High Society's business, there will be a possibility that they will figure out where Zai lived. Plus since the High Society is after Lukas as well, it would make sense that they lived apart for the time being. As someone once said, better safe than sorry.

Lukas: "Alright. I'll see you when I can then Zai!"

Lukas then quickly got what he needed as he left through the front door, jogging his way to the Academy grounds. After a few minutes, he made it to class on time as he could tell that most of the students of 1A were busy with their own things as per usual. It was rather strange to him as understandably, the class environment shouldn't really change as it still had the same people, but strangely enough, everyone is strangely excited about something that he isn't aware of.

He however didn't want to ask unless he was told about it later as Lukas made his way to his desk, sitting down and taking out his drawing book and pen. He got to drawing as he could hear the cacophony of chatter happening around him. He was feeling in a better mood in comparison to before the vacation, which is saying much for him at least.

He wasn't sure on what to draw, but he simply decided to draw whatever his mind can come up with. In the end, after about a couple of minutes, he ended up drawing what one could imagine to be like a group photo in a sense. It contained Zai, Ina, Zaion, Dropscythe, Kiara and Calli as Lukas could imagine himself taking this kind of picture.

Zai was technically wrapping his arms around Dropscythe and Calli's necks as the two looked rather irritated at this moment since they don't like being in physical contact all the time from what Lukas could envision. Zaion just simply stood there with her arms crossed, looking unamused as she looked like she was forcing a smile. Ina and Kiara were technically both looking like besties in a sense as the two were quite happy in the drawing. Over all, this was a really good drawing as Lukas smiled lightly, feeling rather great about the drawing.

Soon enough, he noticed Ina enter the classroom, which she spotted him first as she made her way to him. Lukas took this as his queue to close the book and put it away.

Ina: "Hey Lukas."

Lukas: "Hey Ina."

Ina: "Wow, first day back huh?"

Lukas: "Yeah, can't believe half a year has passed on by in what feels like a blink of an eye..."

Ina: "Yeah I know right? Anyways, I was thinking about something. Are you aware of the festival we are having at the end of the year?"

Lukas blinked a few times in confusion, unsure on what she means.

Lukas: "There's a festival happening at the end of the year..?"

Ina: "Yep. It is a particular festival that we celebrate during New Years. We tend to call it, the Rising Dawn Festival. As it is in remembrance to the First Omni Magician's glory days of uniting both Humanity and the Supernatural."

Lukas: "I see... So is that why everyone is excited..?"

Ina: "Yep. Usually everyone on this island prefers to plan and prepare for the festival way before the actual day as we all relax and enjoy ourselves on that day since the Humans who aren't aware of the Supernatural will be overseas with just the Supernatural around, allowing us to also be ourselves without the enforcement of Glamour."

Lukas honestly found that a little strange, but he could understand on why people might be excited for festivals in the first place. It can bring people together, which it might be Lukas' strong suit, but he knows that he shouldn't really go since he is going to be rather uncomfortable in a large crowded environment.

Vox: "Okay class take your seats!"

Akuma-Sensei entered the classroom, feeling rather happy to see them all back since everyone seemed to be in high spirits. Yet the one thing that Lukas could notice about Akuma-Sensei is his attire as it seemed more fancy than usual. Yet what Lukas doesn't know, is that this attire is what Akuma-Sensei tends to prefer wearing most of the time, especially with his Glamour on.

All the students managed to get to their seats, sitting down as instructed as Akuma-Sensei stood in front of the whole class, beginning to explain something.

Vox: "Well students, I got some news I would like to share with you in what is going to happen during this Second Semester. To start off, due to the Mid-Year Exams that you First Year students participated in, a fair amount of 1B and 1C students didn't make it as they were kicked out of the Academy. You all on the other hand managed to pass, so you all get to stay, which I consider great news."

Everyone was very excited, which Akuma-Sensei can agree with, yet he knows that the students need to feel proud of their achievements so far. Rosemi then raised her hand, catching Akuma-Sensei's attention.

Vox: "Yes Ms. Lovelock?"

Rosemi: "What happens to the empty seats within those two classes then?"

Vox: "Well since the ones who didn't make it weren't worthy of staying in the Academy, we were planning to bring in some transfer students to fill most of those slots. However, we unfortunately couldn't find all the fill-ins, so both of the classes will have less than 20 students each. But now for my next bit of news."

Akuma-Sensei was looking around the classroom, forming a proud smile on his face as he could feel the atmosphere light up with joy and positivity.

Vox: "As you all know, the Rising Dawn Festival is closing in upon us. Which for those who don't know, the Rising Dawn Festival happens once every 10 years to honour the unity that once brought Humanity and Supernatural. No Glamour will be needed at all for the festival as Humans won't be around the island at the time. Yet as for another bit of news to share, Kukyona Sonzai unfortunately won't be attending classes for most of this Semester as something important has come up. Do not worry as he'll have to catch up with his work of course."

Lukas knew exactly what Akuma-Sensei was saying as Zai did inform him a bit earlier in the morning that he wouldn't be able to attend classes due to a particular business dealing against the High Society, which from that information alone, Lukas could tell that Akuma-Sensei won't inform the other students on the truth to keep things as natural as possible.

Vox: "Also Young Misaki."

Lukas: "Y-Yes Akuma-Sensei?"

Vox: "I need to see you after this class as I have something special for you to do."

Lukas: "Okay...?"

Lukas was honestly confused on what Akuma-Sensei would want him to do as he simply went along with it. After that, the class went on with its History lesson, taking up a fair amount of the day as it wasn't much of importance since Lukas did study this beforehand a couple of times. Yet after the lesson, Lukas was asked to stay behind which he obliged.

Soon, all the students went to their next class as Lukas was talking to Akuma-Sensei.

Vox: "Sorry to give such a strange request to you Young Misaki, however this is a bit important as the cook wouldn't allow me to go on for the rest of the day unless I get this delivered."

What Akuma-Sensei was referring to was a particular box that contained different ingredients, yet it was mainly a massive box that Lukas would struggle to carry. Lukas was trying to carry it as he sometimes did lose a bit of balance, but he was able to hold onto it and not trip once at least.

Lukas: "I understand n-no worries Akuma-Sensei..."

Vox: "Good. Now get going and deliver this for me will ya?"

Lukas simply nodded as he began to make his way to the cafeteria. Yet since it wasn't the lunch break period yet, he was glad that no one would notice him trying too hard to carry such a large but yet heavy box. He managed to reach to the kitchen area, pushing open the door as he could smell an incredible smell.

It smelled rather good as it had a unique blend to it, a mixture of herbs and cooking meats. Yet when he did step in with the box, the door did shut itself from behind as the cook noticed him enter.

???: "Oh Misaki! I didn't see you come in!"

Lukas: "I-It's fine Ms. Giri..."

Giri (Onigiri) is a kind Demon from Lukas' knowledge as she has been able to cook many great dishes through her time. Yet never once has he seen her use Glamour, which made him curious at times, but then again, he would not prefer to ask questions and just move along.

Onigiri: "Can you put the box down there please?"

Lukas simply nodded as he put the box down where Giri pointed him to. Once he put the box down, he sighed in relief, though it was a bit of a heavy sigh as he was really glad that he was able to carry such a box all the way to the cafeteria's kitchen. Giri opened the box to check the contents, seeing that these were the things she asked more, making her smile in delight.

Onigiri: "These are exactly what I was needing for today's menu. Did Vox send you here by yourself?"

Lukas: "Umm... Yeah he did..."

Giri then sighed as she rubbed her eyes a bit, trying to understand a fellow Demon.

Onigiri: "I honestly wonder why Vox constantly sends others to do things for him when he could've done this himself... But anyways, did he say something along the lines of you being free for most of the day?"

Lukas: "Y-Yeah he did... Mainly because of me being able to keep up in my lessons..."

Onigiri: "Oh, then that's perfect! Would you mind helping me out in the kitchen until the day is over?"

Lukas was unsure on what he should do. Yet since he has the day off to a degree, he doesn't have anything better to do. So he figured that he might as well do a good deed for the day.

Lukas: "Sure. I can help out.."

With that, Giri was honestly happy to have an assistant. Yet through the rest of the day, Lukas helped out in the kitchen, mostly fetching the ingredients that was required, cutting certain meats and being taught certain cooking skills in the process. Through this time, Lukas learnt that Giri was a patient person when it came to teaching others how to cook. She did seem to be rather stressed about the times he messed up, but over all, she was kind and willing to show him where he went wrong.

When the Academy hours were nearing its end for the day, Lukas was about done with sorting everything to where the utensils and spices needed to be in the kitchen.

Onigiri: "You about done?"

Lukas: "Yes Ms. Giri."

Onigiri: "That's good. You can head off now, I've heard from Vox earlier in the morning about helping you out with something. So I bet you need to go and see him right now."

Lukas: "No problem... I'll see you Ms. Giri!"

Onigiri: "You too Misaki!"

They greeted each other with their farewells as Lukas began to walk through the Academy halls, trying to find his way back to Akuma-Sensei's class, however things weren't going to be easy for him as he was simply lost yet again. He was literally confused on how he got lost when he could've sworn that he memorized most of the areas, and yet this side of the Academy he was in, was the one he didn't map out mentally.

He sighed as he stopped to try and think for a moment. Yet while he was trying to remember where he needed to go, someone walked up to him.

???: "Hey there."

He got a fright for a moment as he tripped and fell over onto his back. He grunted in pain a bit as he noticed a girl looking worried over him.

???: "Oh my gosh! You alright!?"

Lukas: "Y-Yeah... Just got surprised is all..."

Lukas then quickly helped himself back up, but the girl helped him get himself to his feet.

???: "I do apologize for doing that. I'm Melody by the way."

Lukas: "Lukas... Lukas Misaki..."

Melody: "Wait... You're the Omni Magician right!?"

The girl now known as Melody seemed rather excited to actually meet him, yet she was getting to close to his face, making him rather uncomfortable as she had stars forming from her eyes.

Lukas: "Y-Yes.. That is correct..."

Melody: "No way! I thought it was mainly a rumour! Yet now that I got to see one with my own eyes, it makes it so believable!"

Lukas: "Umm... Melody... Y-You're a bit too c-close..."

Melody then blinked a few times, realizing what she was doing as she backed off a bit, feeling a bit embarrassed from that.

Melody: "Oh my bad! Not the best of first impressions..."

Lukas: "Y-Yeah... Neither am I... Though are you new around here...?"

Melody: "Why yes I am. Today was my first day. I have been transferred to Class 1C. Though Zentreya was an interesting one, she is a little intimidating.... However, I was on my way out, though I couldn't help but notice that you seemed confused. Are you lost?"

Lukas: "Umm... Yes. I am unfortunately lost. I did mentally map out most of the Academy, though I somehow didn't map out this side in particular... Whether that being because I didn't go this side much or I simply forgot to..."

Melody: "Oh I know the way to wherever you need to be! Where're you headed?"

Lukas: "Akuma-Sensei's classroom.."

Melody: "Class 1A should be easy to get to if you go down the left side instead of the right. As soon as you reach the far end, take a left again. You shouldn't miss it."

Lukas: "T-Thank you..."

Melody: "No problem. See ya around Lukas!"

Melody then began walking off with a bit of stride, yet when Lukas kept looking at her, something he could tell was a bit off about her. It felt like he couldn't feel her presence at all, like as if there's nothing there in the first place. That didn't seem right to him as every living person should have a form of presence, hell, even an Undead can have a presence. It just didn't seem right, however he shrugged it off for another time as he went to find Akuma-Sensei...
