Chapter 1
[Y/n] groaned and slowly opened her eyes. "Where... am I?" She muttered while rubbing her head. Her head was throbbing, and her body was freezing. After looking around, [Y/n] could see that she was in an igloo in the snowy terrain. Then she gasped and looked down at her wrist to see her precious bracelet was still there. She let out a sigh of relief and relaxed.
[Y/n] looked at her surroundings again. The igloo that she was in was rather small. Way smaller than the size of the palace that she was used to. It still pained her to think about the Fire Nation and Zuko. [Y/n] could only hope that Zuko was taking care of himself.
Soon, a pair of siblings walked in and look at [Y/n]. "She's awake!" The male yelled while stepping in front of the girl and pulled out his weapon.
[Y/n] gave a confused look. "Why are you preparing to fight?" She questioned while tilting her head.
"Hmm, I don't know? Maybe because you're from the Fire Nation!" The male yelled.
"What do you want from the Water Tribe?" The girl said, aggressively.
"I do not want anything. I woke up here." [Y/n] explained, "I have no clue where I am."
An elderly woman walked into the igloo. "I'd rather keep her here than let her die out in the cold." She said while handing [Y/n] a warm drink.
"Thank you very much." [Y/n] said and bowed, "May I ask how you found me?"
"You washed up on an iceberg." The old woman said as [Y/n] took a sip from her cup. The drink immediately warmed her up. "Thank you for your hospitality, but I should be leaving." She said and quickly drank the rest of her tea.
"Yeah, you should." The girl said, rudely.
[Y/n] rummaged through her pocket. "Is there any way I could pay for a boat?" She asked.
"Where are you planning to go, child?" The elderly woman asked.
[Y/n] thought for a moment. She realized that she'd be wandering forever, always on the run from the Fire Nation. "I don't know. I have nowhere to go." [Y/n] muttered, looking down in defeat.
~~
It's been almost three years since that day. [Y/n] has taken refuge among the Southern Water Tribe. She's become great friends with Katara and Sokka and gave up on everything that reminded her of the Fire Nation. More for her own sanity and peace of mind. [Y/n] does help out in the tribe like taking care of children and secretly using her water-bending to catch fish.
However, one day, Sokka and Katara came back to the tribe with a big surprise. Katara introduced a boy named Aang to the whole village. The villagers seemed hesitant and scared of the monk. Like they were when [Y/n] first made an appearance.
"Uh...Why are they all looking at me like that?" Aang asked, "Did Appa sneeze on me?" He examined his clothes.
Gran-Gran walked closer to them. "Well, no one has seen an Airbender in a hundred years. We thought they were extinct until my granddaughter and grandson found you." She said to Aang.
"Aang, this is my grandmother." Katara said.
"Call me Gran-Gran." Gran-Gran said.
Sokka marched over to Aang and snatched his staff away. "What is this a weapon? You can't stab anything with this." He said while examining the staff, closely. Sokka was always careful around foreign people his tribe. Though, [Y/n] didn't think it was always right to treat people like that [Y/n] could understand why.
"It's not for stabbing. It's for Airbending." Aang said, and [Y/n]'s eyes widened in awe as the staff turned into the glider.
"Magic Trick. Do it again." A little village girl said. "Not magic, Airbending." Aang corrected, "It lets me control the air currents around my glider and fly."
"You know, last time I checked, humans can't fly." Sokka said, still skeptical and unbelieving.
"Check again." Aang said and went flying. He was showing off until he crashed into Sokka's watchtower. "Oh! My watchtower!" Sokka groaned while [Y/n] giggled, and Katara rushed to check on the monk boy.
"That was amazing." She said and helped Aang up.
"It was." [Y/n] agreed while walking closer to the male. "Great. You're an Airbender, Katara's a Waterbender, [Y/n]'s a Firebender. Together you can waste time all day." Sokka complained while getting up out of a pile of snow that fell on him.
"You're a Waterbender?" Aang asked Katara.
"Well, sort of. Not yet." Katara said.
"All right. No more playing. Come in, Katara. You have chores." Gran-Gran said.
[Y/n] stayed with the children as they watched Aang goof off. [Y/n] giggled, seeing Aang get his tongue stuck on his staff. Later, [Y/n] lost track of Aang and Katara. She could only assume that the monk snuck off somewhere or was exploring the area, but she had no idea where Katara was. It was unlike her to sneak away from her chores.
Instead of looking for them like she wanted to, [Y/n] stayed in the village with Sokka and the children.
"Now, men, it's important that you show no fear when you face a Firebender. No offense, [Y/n]." Sokka said, and [Y/n] waved it off.
"It's all right." [Y/n] said with a smile.
Sokka continued, "In the Water Tribe, we fight till the last man's standing. For without courage, how can we call ourselves men."
The little boys of the Water Tribe stared at Sokka for a moment while [Y/n] tried not to laugh at him. "Sokka, they are children." She pointed out then one of the boys raised his hand.
"I gotta pee." He said.
"Listen! Until your fathers return from the war, they're counting on you to be the men of this tribe. And that means, no potty breaks!" Sokka said.
"But I really gotta go!"
[Y/n] smiled, softly. "Sokka, you cannot expect mere children to wait to pee." She said, "Now, does anyone else has to go?" Every boy raised their hand. Sokka sighed and facepalm. "Have either of you seen Aang?" Katara asked while walking over to Sokka and [Y/n], "Gran-Gran said he disappeared over an hour ago."
"Wow! Everything freezes in there!" Aang said while coming out of the bathroom. All of the children cheered and ran over to him. They seemed to love him. Well, because he was a child himself. "Ah! Katara, get him out of here. This lesson is for warriors only." Sokka said while the two girls watched as the children played on Appa.
[Y/n] giggled a bit while Sokka went to scold Aang and the children. "What are you talking about?" Aang questioned, referring to the war Sokka mentioned. [Y/n] gave a confused look. Just where has Aang been the last 100 years?
"You're kidding, right?" Sokka questioned. Then, Aang got distracted and suddenly went chasing after a Penguin. "He's kidding, right?" Sokka repeated while raising a brow, watching Aang run off with Katara and [Y/n].
"He didn't seem very focused." [Y/n] muttered.
Katara took it upon herself to go after Aang and bring him back to the village while [Y/n] stayed behind with Sokka. As much as [Y/n] liked Sokka, she hated being alone with him. She always tried her best to avoid certain questions he would try to ask regarding their relationship.
"So... [Y/n], there's something I've been wanting to talk to you about." Sokka said while moving closer to her.
Here we go.
[Y/n] moved her short [h/c] hair out of her face and looked at the taller male then fumbled with the charms on her gold bracelet. "Could it wait, Sokka? I have to check in with the girls." [Y/n] said, sweetly and patted Sokka's shoulder, "Continue teaching your little warriors." Then she walked away.
Sokka sulked watching the girl walk away. "Sure, I guess waiting 2 years wasn't enough." He mumbled.
~
[Y/n] was helping the ladies of the tribe finish their chores until she saw something fire in the air. Like a flare or signal of some sort. "What was that?" [Y/n] questioned, and everyone stopped what they were doing. Everyone went to the front of the village. They could see Katara walking back with Aang in the distance. The children cheered while the ladies looked angry. "I knew it! You signaled the Fire Navy with that flare! You're leading them straight to us, aren't you?" Sokka accused.
"Aang didn't do anything! It was an accident." Katara protested, stepping in front of Aang to protect him.
"Yeah, we were on the ship and there was this booby trap and, well, we-- We boobied right into it." Aang explained.
"Are you both all right?" [Y/n] asked, and they nodded.
"Katara, you shouldn't have gone on that ship. Now we could all be in danger." Gran-Gran said.
"Don't blame Katara. I brought her there. It's my fault." Aang said, sadly and looked down in shame.
"A-ha! The traitor confesses! Warriors, away from the enemy. The foreigner is banished from our village." Sokka said.
[Y/n] tried to step towards Aang and Katara, but Sokka stopped her. "Sokka...-" [Y/n] nervously fumbled with her bracelet.
"Sokka, you're making a mistake." Katara argued.
"No, I'm keeping my promise to Dad. I'm protecting you from threats like him." Sokka said.
"Aang is not our enemy. Don't you see? Aang's brought us something we haven't had in a long time--Fun." Katara continued.
"Fun?! We can't fight Firebenders with fun!" Sokka snapped.
"You should try it sometime." Aang said.
"Get out of our village now!" Sokka demanded.
"Grandmother, please, don't let Sokka do this." Katara said.
"Katara, you knew going on that ship was forbidden. Sokka is right. I think it best if the Airbender leaves." Gran-Gran said.
"Fine, then I'm banished too. Come on, Aang, let's go." Katara huffed.
"Where do you think you're going?!" Sokka yelled.
"To find a Waterbender. Aang is taking me to the North Pole." Katara shouted back.
"I am? Great!" Aang said.
"Katara, would you really choose him over your tribe, your own family?" Sokka questioned, and Katara stopped. "Katara, I don't want to come between you and your family." Aang said.
"So, you're leaving the South Pole? This is goodbye?" Katara questioned.
"Thanks for Penguin sledding with me." Aang said.
"Where will you go?" Katara asked.
"Guess I'll go back home and look for the Airbenders. Wow. I haven't cleaned my room in 100 years. Not looking forward to that." Aang said and hopped on Appa.
"It was nice meeting everyone." Aang said.
"Let's see your Bison fly now, Airboy." Sokka mocked.
Come on, Appa, you can do it. Yip yip." Aang said, and Appa stood up then began to walk. "I thought so." Sokka said, and [Y/n] elbowed him.
One little girl went crying, running towards Aang. "Aang, don't go. I'll miss you." She said.
"I'll miss you, too." Aang said, sadly then Appa continued to walk away. Sokka started ordering his warriors to their defenses then he turned to [Y/n], placing his hands on her shoulders. "You've gotta hide, [Y/n]. I don't want you getting hurt." He said with a worry-filled expression. [Y/n] nodded and went to hide in a tent with a few other children being the last line of defense for them.
[Y/n] could feel the ground shaking and hear rumbling sounds in the distance, They were here. [Y/n] vowed not to use her bending against others anymore, but, if she hears screaming, [Y/n] rushing out, Firebending and all. A few of the children huddled close to [Y/n], scared to death.
[Y/n] gave her best reassuring smile and patted a little girl's head. "Sokka, get out of the way!"
[Y/n] heard and sighed. 'Why does he find the need to be stubborn?!' [Y/n] thought as the children hugged onto her, tighter. Nearly trembling. [Y/n] placed her finger to her lip, signaling them to keep quiet.
"Where are you hiding him?"
[Y/n]'s heart skipped a beat and her eyes widened, hearing that voice. Old feelings, old memories were coming back. It almost made [Y/n] want to cry. [Y/n] looked down at her bracelet. There was no mistaking it. She knew that voice. The man that she loved; the man she hasn't seen in almost three years.
'Zuko...'
~
"Zuzu!" Little ten-year-old [Y/n] hugged onto Zuko after finding him in the palace. She had just finished her training and her father has allowed her to play with Zuko and Azula. "Don't call me that! Ew! [Y/n]! You're sweaty!" Zuko complained, and [Y/n] giggled. "I ran straight here to see you, Zuzu." She said and pouted, "Did you not want to see me?"
Zuko blushed and shook his head. "I didn't say that!" He protested, and [Y/n] giggled. She loved seeing Zuko flustered. "My father allowed me to play with you for the time being." [Y/n] said, and Zuko's expression brightened. "Okay, what do you want to do?" He asked, and [Y/n] hummed. "I want to eat a tart first, then we can play tag!" She suggested.
~
[Y/n] snapped out of her thought when she heard screaming. "I know you're hiding him." Zuko growled.
[Y/n] rushed out. "Zuko! Stop!" She yelled, and Zuko's eyes widened in shock as she made her way to the front of the group. Seeing her again, almost took Zuko's breath away. He stood there dumbfounded, unable to figure out what to say to her. Sokka let out a battle cry, trying to attack Zuko by surprise, but Zuko easily dodged him, causing Sokka to flip over Zuko's body and land on his butt.
Sokka dodged Zuko's flame then threw his boomerang at Zuko, who barely dodged it. "Show no fear." A boy tossed Sokka a spear. Sokka charged at Zuko with the spear pointed at him, but Zuko broke the spear, knocking Sokka on his butt again.
Suddenly, Sokka's boomerang came back and hit Zuko in the head. [Y/n] tried not to laugh.
Zuko glared and engulfed his hands in flames. [Y/n] stood protectively in front of Sokka. "Don't hurt them, Zuko." She said with an expression Zuko's never seen before. She was...glaring at him. As if he was the enemy.
Suddenly, Aang came sledding in on a penguin, knocking Zuko facefirst into the snow. [Y/n] giggled and while the children cheered. "Hey, Katara. Hey, Sokka. Hey, [Y/n]." Aang said.
"Hi, Aang. Thanks for coming." Sokka said, rather disappointed.
"Are you alright, Sokka?" [Y/n] asked while helping him up.
Sokka nodded.
As the Firebenders surrounded Aang, he used his Airbending to throw snow everywhere. "You're the Airbender? You're the Avatar?" Zuko questioned, and [Y/n]'s eyes widened. "Him?" She questioned. How could she not have realized. Aang was the last Airbender left, so there was a high chance that he was the Avatar.
"I've spent years preparing for this encounter, training, meditating. You're just a child." Zuko said as the two males circled around.
"Well, you're just a teenager." Aang said, and Zuko glared and began to shoot fire at Aang.
[Y/n] ducked down, blocking Sokka from the flames while the other members of the tribe let out yelps of fear. Aang soon realized that the tribe was at the risk of getting burned if he continued this battle. "If I go with you, will you promise to leave everyone alone?" Aang asked, and Zuko nodded with that Aang surrendered.
Zuko's soldiers took Aang away. Zuko walked over to [Y/n] and grabbed her wrist. "[Y/n]!" Sokka called as Zuko pulled [Y/n] along to the ship. "Set a course for the Fire Nation! We're going home." Zuko announced as they entered the ship.
