Father's Day
In a land
Did two people meet
One of them a child
And the other an adult
He held a flower
In his tiny hand
Clasped tight
Between his tiny fingers
The stalk looked like
Someone chewed the end of it
The flowers resembled
A charred paper
Nevertheless
A flower was a flower
A child was a child
An adult was an adult
He did honor that man
With this flower he had
He did give it to him
With a smile and respect
Only the man failed to see this
Laughing out loud at the boy
Snatching this flower
Letting the wind cart it away
What goes around
Comes around
Perhaps the flower would come back
The child thought
It was a flower
His mother had gifted him;
A temporary reminder
Of his mother's love
And so it did
Today he gathers a bouquet of them
From his children
On Father's day:
Love
In flowers
In a knot
With
A
Huge
Smile.
