Demon 1/2

I awaken with a gasp, sitting upright within moments, my eyes filled with tears.

'I remember! I really remember!' I cheer in my head. Someone's arms support me, calling my name, and someone else's pained cries reach my ears. I snap to reality, whipping my head around to take in my surroundings again.

"(Y/N)!" Harlequin shouts, making me focus on him, "Are you okay?"

"No, not in the slightest, but that's for later. What's going on with Helbram?" I ask, getting to my feet. Helbram was floating above us, clutching his head, crying out in agony.

"When you screamed, he just started shouting 'no, not again, I won't!'" he replies, stopping me from moving any further, "Sit down, you're going to hurt yourself more!"

"How long have you known?" I ask quietly. He tilts his head in confusion.

"Known what?"

"Known that I didn't remember a single damn thing about what we used to be!" I shout, shoving him away from me and flying towards Helbram. He sees me coming and throws out his hand, making me stop moving.

"Don't come near me! I'll hurt you!" he shouts, obviously fighting something in his head. I grit my teeth and dart forwards, throwing my arms around him and holding him as tight as I dare, wishing I knew what was going on. Helbram quietens a bit, still moaning in pain, and King floats up behind us.

"(Y/N), get away from him! He's dangerous!"

I remove one arm from Helbram's shoulders and turn to give King my most intimidating glare. He seems to shrivel under my look.

"Go away, King. Harlequin. You never told me what my past was, you wished I would never remember Helbram. Leave us."

His eyes darken and fill with tears. He hesitantly floats forwards, trying to bargain with me.

"(Y/N), I would never-"

"I SAID LEAVE!!"

He whimpers and flies away, disappearing from my sight. My heart fills with sadness after he leaves. I didn't want this to happen. I fucked it up. I always knew I would, and I always knew I would be the one to drive him away. Helbram whines, then falls silent. A dark smirk crosses his face and I retreat a bit, confused about this new behaviour.

"Helbram...?" I ask gently, reaching out to touch his face. He swats my hand away and points his sword at me, the tip hovering directly over my heart. I suddenly realise I've made a terrible mistake. Even as I think this, Helbram's eyes shine with tears. The sword flies forward, then suddenly stops. Everything around me turns cold and dark, leaving only shadows of the buildings.

"I'm sorry, (Y/N). I couldn't stop him. I'm not in control of what I do any more, so it's safest for you to just run away. Even if I did beat him, it's still his spell that brought me back to life. He could have killed me at any time. I promise I'll explain later, but for now..." Helbram's voice whispers. His shadow drifts forwards, and a cool hand is laid on my cheek. My eyes fill with tears again and I quickly raise my hand up to grab his. His free arm wraps around the back of my neck and he presses his lips to mine. (Don't worry, give me a few chapters. All shall be explained.)

"I love you."

Then, all too soon, time starts moving again. The green sword slips just to the side, intercepted not to kill me with the last of his own free will, grazing my arm, and I quickly dart away, tears spilling from my eyes and falling far below to the ground. I wanted to stay and be with him, even if it meant dying. I wanted to turn back time (to the good old days~) and just stay in the past with the two of them, but it was too late for that now. My breath gets caught in my throat and I let out a sob, turning a corner and slumping against a wall. The house suddenly explodes, sending me flying, and I slam against the other house across the street.

Helbram follows leisurely, his sword spinning next to him, a demented grin on his face. I couldn't find the strength to move. Out of the corner of my eye, something else shoots forward, and suddenly he's on the defense against the spear. King was back, it seemed. He had his hand outstretched, tears running down his face, and I quickly fly over to Diane and the holy knights that had returned.

"Done with the sob session yet, (Y/N)?" King asks in a harsh voice. I knew I deserved it, after what I said to him.

"I'm sorry, Harle- King."

"Yeah, well, so am I."

I lower my head in defeat, still wishing I could go back in time and fix my mistakes. The two fairies stare at eachother, but occasionally Helbram's gaze would flick to me and his eyes would soften. I had no idea what was going on in his head, but I think he was fighting the spell put on him. Then, something crashes into me, sweeping me into the air and away from Diane. I cry out in shock and pain as the thing holding me digs into my wound, making King turn and look in worry.

'He still cares. Thank god...' I mutter in my head, gritting my teeth against the pain and struggling against the white-haired man that held me. I thought he was familiar but didn't know where from.

"Great Holy Knight Hendricksen?!" King shouts, making me freeze. This was the great holy knight? Why did he only grab me?

"I'd advise you to stay still, I'd like to make this as painless as possible." Hendricksen says, skidding along the ground and putting me down gently, confusing me.

"Why are you being gentle? I thought you were going to kill me."

"I only want to ask you a question."

I tilt my head, backing up against a wall.

"What if I don't answer?" I ask, not liking where this is going.

"Oh, don't worry. It's just something simple. However, if you don't want to answer, that's fine as well. I'm just curious."

His attitude was making me more nervous by the second. He took my silence as acceptance and stepped forwards so we were almost touching eachother.

"Who the hell are you?" he asks, narrowing his eyes at me. He had suddenly gone from laid back to threatening, and seemed to make me freeze.

"I-I'm (Y/N)." I stutter, avoiding eye contact and fixing my gaze on the wall behind him. What a nice wall.

"What did you do to make Helbram resist my spell?"

My blood turns cold.

"You did that to him...?" I ask darkly, standing up to my full height and looking him in the eye. He nods.

"It's called Enslavement Of The Dead, an ancient druid magic. Now, I'll be taking my leave."

I wanted to punch him. So badly. I wanted to punch and kick and attack him with everything I had, but doing so now, when I had no energy left and I was slowly dying of blood loss, would mean death. I mean, this might be my only chance, but if I had even a small amount of survival, I would take it.

"Goodbye, holy knight." I hiss venemously, spitting on the ground next to him. He looks at me with amusement before leaping away, jumping over the houses towards the castle. Suddenly, I notice a small green disc thing flying towards me.

"What's that...?" I ask out loud, staring at it as it gets closer. Suddenly, large explosions erupt all around me. My eyes widen and I quickly shoot straight up. I had maybe two seconds before it hit the ground. A blast below me propels me upwards but catches my legs in the damage, ripping my pants and burning my skin. I hiss in pain but keep going, high enough to not get hit again if it happens a second time. I see King and Helbram fighting eachother, talking at the same time, but from this distance I couldn't hear any words.

I quickly shoot away, towards the castle, suddenly determined to find Elizabeth. I didn't know why I felt so strongly about finding her now, but I needed to be around someone who wasn't a fairy. Lightning comes into view again and I look down and lock eyes with Meliodas, defending against Gilthunder and Hendricksen. He nods up at me and I shoot into the castle through an open window, trying to land normally and forgetting my wounds for half a second. My breath catches in pain as I fall to my knees and skid along the carpet, my legs crumpling beneath me when I try to put weight on them. In my honest opinion, I thought I was going to be the only person heavily injured after this.

Floating into the air again, I remember that I have no energy left to create guards. I was literally defenseless right now. Defenseless and alone. Gritting my teeth, I begin traversing the corridors, eyeing the suits of armour and swords they carry and wondering if I could use them. In the end, I shake my head. I had very little sword training and heavy armour always felt too strange for me. Eventually, I run into a servant girl, running around in a panic and trying to find something. Her back was turned to me.

"What's wrong?" I ask, scaring her. She whirls around in surprise and her breath catches when she sees me and the state I'm in.

"What happened to you?" she says, quickly fumbling for the bottom of her dress and ripping it into strips. I descend to the ground and let her wrap my wounds in the colourful strips, and accept the bottle of water she gives me.

"Just a bit of fighting outside. I'll be fine. You seemed to be a bit panicked though."

"I'm searching for a locket my mother gave me. This wall caved in a while ago from an explosion and I've been digging ever since." the servant girl says, sounding like she's on the verge of tears. She only seemed to be around thirteen, and I guessed that her mother had died. I get to my feet and walk over to the rubble, beginning to shift the chunks of rock away. The girl protests at first, trying to make me rest, but eventually gives up and helps me. After I clear most of the rocks, a shiny object catches my attention. I carefully extract it from where it hung and noticed it looked like it was made of gold, in the shape of a heart. It hung on an elaborate chain that looked like snakes twisted together. The words 'Best Friends' were carved into the heart, making me a bit confused as to why her mother would have given her this.

"You found it!" the girl cries in joy when I present it to her. She takes it and hugs it to her chest, then jumps forwards and hugs me.

"Thankyou so much!"

I smile gently and pat her head.

"Make sure you don't lose it again, okay? Keep it with you at all times."

"Yep!"

The girl skips away happily, and I only then realise that she had little stubs on her shoulder blades, surrounded by white scars. It seemed she was a fairy, too, but her wings had been cut off. Cut off.

"Wait!" I call, trying to run after her and stumbling, then flying through the air. She turns in surprise, still holding the locket close to her heart.

"What's your name?" I ask, my eyes wide. She seems a bit scared by my sudden behaviour but tells me her name anyway.

"It's Lily." she says.

"D-Do you know someone called Helbram? (Y/N)?" I ask frantically. Her eyes widen as well.

"Is that you, (Y/N)?!"

I sob and throw my arms around her, hugging her fiercely, and she returns the hug without a moment of hesitation.

"I thought they killed everyone!" I cry. My memories played on repeat, the screams of my friends as their wings were ripped off, the laughter of the humans. My weakness and anger at myself for not being able to save them.

"I missed you so much! I've had to pretend I'm human and work for them for centuries!" Lily shouts, burying her head in my shoulder. I hold her tighter, like I might protect her from the world if I squeezed her enough.

"I'll bring you somewhere safe when we're done here, I promise," I whisper, stroking her hair, "Just wait here, okay? I promise I'll be back and you won't have to work for humans anymore."

She nods weakly, still clutching me like I'll disappear, which given my track record is highly probable. Not this time, though. I'm not leaving her alone any more.

"I need to go now. But I'll be back, okay? I need to help my friends, then I'll bring a whole army if anything stops me from getting back to you."

She nods again and lets go, stepping back, clutching her heart locket tighter than before.

"I-I lied about who gave me this locket. It was actually you." she says shyly, averting her eyes. I smile and pat her head, then give her one last hug. She smiles up at me as I rise into the air, thanking her for taking care of me and then soaring through the corridors.

~ King's P.O.V ~

I saw (Y/N) flying away, into the castle, and sighed in relief. She should be relatively safe there, so long as she was careful. With one last look, I turn back to Helbram and swipe Chastiefol down his body. He remains frozen for a few seconds, looking at me with shock, before blood spurts from his shoulder and he falls down to the ground. As I watch, he reaches for the helmet he was carrying. I descend to the ground and pick it up, presenting it to him.

"Hey, Harlequin. Long time no see." he says in a low, soft voice. My heart leaps to my throat but I quickly stuff it down.

"That helmet was a present for you. I thought you would like it. I got it from humans, but now that I look at you, I really have no sense of fashion. I'm an idiot."

"You're right. You really are an idiot." I say, tears spilling from my eyes. I hated this. I just wanted to go back in time and fix things, with both him and (Y/N). His last breath escapes him and I wipe my eyes, laying the helmet on his chest and then floating into the air.

~ Back to (Y/N) ~

'I found the dungeons. I think. I wonder how Helbram's doing?' I say in my head, trying to find a key to the massive iron door blocking my path.

"AHA!!" I shout in triumph, producing a key from a chest. A really inconvenient place to put something so small and hard to find but who cares, it's mine now. I slide the key into the lock and open it to find... twenty guards waiting for me.

"Shit, did I make too much noise?" I ask nervously, backing away.

"Young lady-"

"Young? I'm almost 1300 years old, kiddo."

"You are under arrest under suspicion of being an ally to the Seven Deadly Sins!" one of the guards says, not missing a beat. I laugh nervously and continue floating backwards.

"Glad you guys finally remember my face, but now really isn't the time. Could I just have the princess and leave?"

Another guard seems to get annoyed and storms forwards, grabbing my arm roughly and twisting it. I felt my bones being strained, close to snapping.

"ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT!! You win!" I shout, trying to loosen his grip. He smirks and throws me to the ground, making my head crack painfully against the rocks.

"I expected more..." I hear someone mutter. Gritting my teeth, I force myself to lay still, a wild and most likely suicidal idea forming in my mind. The same man that threw me walks over, the smirk still infuriatingly present on his face.

"Let's go, little fairy." he taunts, grabbing my neck and holding me in the air. My dirt-covered hair hangs over my silver eye, only showing my blue one. Suddenly, as quick as a gust of wind, I grit my teeth and send out a wave of pure energy, sending all twenty of them flying. I fall to my knees and cough, spewing up blood. That wasn't what I usually use, it was my life force. I scramble to my feet and run, diving out a window and soaring up to the top of the castle.

Meliodas was fighting... Hendricksen? It looked like him, but with more body mass now. Hawk was carrying an unconscious Elizabeth away, running at full speed, but Hendricksen points his palm towards them and shoots some kind of dark fire bolt. Just as it was about to hit them, a giant hammer blocks it, kicking up a huge dust cloud. When it clears, a green stuffed bear punches Hendricksen's head, making him fall all the way through the raised rock pillar. Then, King approaches me.

"I'm sorry about earlier. I should have told you." he says, averting his eyes.

"I'm sorry too. I wasn't thinking straight." I reply, floating forwards and giving him a light hug, barely even touching him at all.

"Here... Helbram wanted you to have this." he says, pulling out the same green sword Helbram was using from a sheath on his back. I notice then that he also had the helmet Helbram was carrying attached to his hood. I take the sword and swing it a few times, testing it out, and found that it fit my hand surprisingly well. And, when I let it go, it didn't fall down to the ground.

"Thankyou for giving me this, King." I say, smiling at him. He takes off the sheath and passes it to me. I put it on where I can easily reach the sword handle with my right hand, then we catch up with the others as they fall down to where Hendricksen landed.
