Challenge Two: Lost at Sea.

My second challenge is to write a short story that must take place on a four-seater boat (a longboat) and I must include a shark, candles/matches, a fez and beef jerky.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pieces of debris and splintered wooden planks from my ship floated on the surface of the water, the rest of the ship sank deeper and deeper into the blue depths below us to be lost forever.

Four of us sat in the longboat, we were the only survivors from the attack. I sat staring out into the distance, we were in the middle of nowhere, we were lost at sea. I had no idea of how we were going to get out of this mess. I was clueless. Jamie tapped my shoulder causing me to turn and look at him questioningly.

He held out a bag to me. I realised that he had divided the supplies that we had managed to salvage into four bags. I took my bag from him and sent him a grateful smile before I reached into the bag and pulled out a strip of beef jerky which I began nibbling on.

I looked to Ralf who was sat opposite me, he was shaking fearfully and was clutching his bag in his arm's. Ralf was always strange; he constantly talked to himself, he wore his fez everywhere and he would always warn us that something was going to happen.

"It'll be dark soon." Said Mark who began pulling out some candles.

"Since when did you bring candles?" I asked. He just shrugged and with the help of Jamie they lit the candles which emitted a low glow across the water around our boat.

I closed my eyes and slumped against the side of the boat. I was suddenly so tired but I knew that I wouldn't be able to sleep whilst we were lost at sea.

I opened my eyes a minute later and saw that Jamie and Mark were sleeping but Ralf was still awake. "Fins. Teeth. Blood." He mumbled to himself which caused me to frown at him. What was he going on about?

Suddenly something hit the side of the boat causing me to jump into a sitting position. "What the-" I couldn't even finish my sentence because with the help of the dim light that the candles emitted I was able to see something move in the water. It was a fin, more specifically it was a shark. A very big shark. Only one thought crossed my mind;

We weren't lost at sea, we were doomed at sea.
