Gone

The locals always said beware the bird. We didn't listen. My sister and I were walking home on a deserted street one night, about a week after we moved here, when the horror began. There was a streetlight buzzing. All of a sudden there was a sound. It was eerily quiet. My sister and I jumped, and looked around. Nothing. We heard it again, and we ignored it and kept walking. Our house was about a mile away. Something flashed in front of us. Now we were scared. All of a sudden my sister whispered, "Look! A bird!". As a joke, I replied, "No! It's Superman!" We laughed. Then I saw the bird. It was beautiful, but creepy. It was pitch black, with red feathers around it's neck and feathers that looked like a crown on its head, and red on the tip of its beak and on its talons. The bird was fairly large, but very elegant, well, as elegant as a bird could be I guess. I started walking towards it, and my sister followed. I don't know why we followed it, but we did. It was probably a very stupid idea, but I couldn't help it! I remembered a story one of the locals told me and my sister, it was about a bird that lured people into the woods with its song. The people who followed it, were never seen again. And yet I kept following it. So did my sister. I then realized the bird was singing. It was eerie, but beautiful. The bird flew slowly towards the woods. We kept following it. When we got inside the woods, more almost identical birds appeared. We kept following it. We were deep into the woods at this point. Yet we kept following it. The birds flew at us. The world went black. Gone. No one ever found us. We should have listened.
