A storm brewed outside as Nightmare and Dream slept in their separate rooms. Nightmare tossed and turned as the darkness in her soul started to take its toll. She woke, black dripped from her eyes and mouth. She tried wiping it away, but it just kept coming. She soon found herself covered by the black, as it took over. She pressed her knees against her chest, crying for it to stop, but it didn't. Nightmare found herself like a puppet to the darkness, a tool to be used for the night's destruction. Her once deep violet eyes shined a vibrant blue. The skin on her back ripped open to make way for two pairs of black tentacles.

In the other room, Dream could tell something was off. She got out of her bed and grabbed her staff before going to her sisters room. She knocked on the door, a mistake that would cost her everything.

One of Nightmare's tentacles went through the door, sinking into Dream's chest. Dream gasped for air, holding onto her sister's tentacle. Nightmare saw what had happened through the splintered door. Dream started forming her own coating, it kept her alive.
